Getting ready for "bunny pick up day" ... several folks cannot come thru the week on Tuesday next week so I let them come this weekend to get their babies. Just a few days won't hurt and it will be more convenient for the folks too. 8 week old pictures were just taken and will be up regardless if the bunny has left or not this weekend.. then on Tuesday I will take the litter pics down and place the "going home with... " photos in the "what's happening at Wabbit Habitat" area on the bottom of the 'available bunnies" page and also on the "new owners" page so all can see how happy Wabbit Habitat buyers are when they get their new babies. Hopefully , if all goes well I will be entering one of my bunnies into the Shelby 'Mush, Mutts n Music' pet show on Saturday morning. And then I will take that one and possibly another one of them thru the town in the Pet Parade. However, I hurt my knee yesterday morning and am still recovering from that, so I sure hope it won't put a damper on my plans. Ugh, what bad timing. "the story of my life"
October 17, 2017
Today I am getting a little "helper". It is about time, I have needed help for some time now. She is a teenager and loves bunnies, has one of her own. She will be working here off and on as needed. I am also in the process of "downsizing" so if you see a bunny or 2 go up for sale, that is what is happening. Wabbit Habitat has grown too big for me to handle and I am not comfortable with this happening... so someone has to "go" unfortunately. I want to be able to take care of it all by myself... even though I love having someone to assist me and take some of the load off. Can't wait to get her "trained up" so I can just say, please do "this" today and "wah lah " it will be done... that is a dream.
October 16 2017
Next week is Bunny Pick up Day again... and some of my wee little bunny army will be going home to their new families. I will truly miss these little boogers. They have been so fun to watch growing up and loving to held and petted. Being posed each week for their pictures , was sometimes a challenge, but a few buns were very co-operative. We have made some good bunny "childhood" memories , I feel for a good basis in getting to know "humans" that we won't "eat" them, hahaha. From a bunny's viewpoint every thing wants to eat them, that is why they are called "prey" animals... they ARE the prey. Bless their wee hearts. A person just has to "think" like a bunny when you get one for a new family member. "What would I think if I were the bunny?" They need to do this "before" doing something like bringing the family pet saint bernard in to greet the hand sized bunny. Doesn't mean you can't do that, just that you need to do that in a way that makes the bunny feel 'safe' and the least fear that can cause it the better. They actually can DIE from being scared to death, no kidding.
October 12, 2017
I won't mention any names here, but there is 1 bunny girl that I am really "ticked off" at. She has had at least 4 litters and still can't seem to get it "right". She does a wonderful job once the babies arrive and I make a nestbox and I put them inside. But before her delivery (kindling in the bunny world) she tears her bunny cage up ! She pees n poos in the nestbox I make for her on day 5 ( later cause I know she will still do this)... then I take it out and put cardboard on the flooring and cover the whole thing with hay so she can't "miss" having her babies in hay... well now she has torn the cardboard to shreds and has holes all in the flooring so her babies may very well be born on the wire and die... she is driving me nuts... I do believe she will be for sale very soon... I just can't put up with this, my patience is thin when I have so very many other buns that "do it right" and give me no trouble at all... I am constantly worried about her babies when the "time comes" ... ugh... now keep in mind , she is the perfect mom bun when they arrive... it is just the Pre- arrival where she just can't get it right... ugh...
October 10, 2017
Trying to shuffle bunny girls around in the barn so I can get as many does that are ready for their nest box about chest level... easier to deal with newborns that way. My top cages ( cause I am so short) I cannot see into the nest boxes, have to stand on a step stool.. got to get me a more reliable step stool... that is small... if you have any suggestions as to where I can find a good reliable "steady" when your on it stool that can be folded in half and not take up room. Please by all means, text me at 704-742-1326 and let me know. Need one desperately.
October 9, 2017
Two more bunnies went home yesterday and are now happily leaning a new household and new bunny parents. I am sure they are going to get lots of attention and love from their new families. I will miss their sweet wiggly noses and all those hopping and scurrying sound coming from the playpen outside on a daily basis. I still have my Smores ( Cobweb) and of course Psycho and Monster. Psycho has someone coming on Tuesday to decide if they are going to get him or perhaps change their mind to Monster... So one of them will be available and is available right now to go home with you if you are interested. New babies almost daily from now to the next few weeks... about 12 litters for Christmas and 2 afterwards... then the Valentine's babies will begin. It just NEVER stops... hahaha.
October 8, 2017
Yesterday's 2nd bunny pick up Day went well, despite the intermittent rain that we needed so very badly. I am afraid today's few folks that come after a bunny will also get a bit wet. I try to give them the option of me bringing the bunny up to the carport for them in my carrier so they don't get wet, but often times they want to do the "tour" anyway.... Please bring an umbrella. Stay safe on those roads... your bunny is waiting patiently for his new family!
October 7, 2017
Well the 1st day of Bunny Pick Up went well yesterday... 2 people took 4 baby bunnies. Today we have 4 folks picking up 5 bunnies... And on Sunday, which I do not like to do , but several folks said that was the only day they could come... I have 2 folks with 2 bunnies going to go to their "forever homes". Lots of bunnies going to get special one on one attention this weekend. I am so very happy for them and the new families. I just hope the "new bunny" syndrome never wears off for the bunny's sake. I have had several "returns" which is quite sad. Right now I have 2 adult bunnies that were inside bunnies having to learn to live "outside" now. If you know of anyone that wants a loving adult female.. I have 2 available.
October 4, 2017
Such sad news... had a bunny get her neck hurt yesterday... not sure if she will recover. Giving her some pain/anti-inflamatory meds and massage... but who knows...poor lady was gonna get several bunnies from me and she was the only girl out of them. So she of course is backing out.. heck who wouldn't. So if you are a praying person, please pray for this bunny. Thanks. I won't put her picture on here , just in case she does not make it. Hope you are having a better day then I am.
October 2, 2017
Can you believe it is October already... wow how this year has flown by. So I am beginning to decorate for Halloween around the house then I will go towards the rabbitry with decor. Went and got my tubs from my old out building yesterday. Now the past few days have really felt like fall weather for sure. Although they say that it will be in the mid 80's this weekend. Whew, back to shorts I guess. Can't wait for the folks to meet their babies this weekend. I am so excited to see their faces when they see how much their bunnies have grown and how pretty and how sweet they are too! I will be texting them all today for times for this weekend's pick up days.
September 28, 2017
I have been very busy the last few days. Trying to catch up on touching up paint and painting the rest of the hutches that have never been painted before. I have 4 of them, got 2 done yesterday. I plan on doing the same today and then touching up the last 2 bunny pens - the honeymoon suites too. I was waiting for a break in the heat, but I guess that isn't going to happen before actual Winter hits us and turns "freezing" all of a sudden. So 90's or not, I am painting, hahaha. I also have found I have repairs to do on one of the hutches, so no one can move back in until it is done. This repair is to stop an escape. My wire is rusting badly and it is in need of replacement. Ugh. I knew this was going to happen. I don't think they even "coated" the wire at all against the weather. Guess they think you will just rush out and buy another whole pen.. nope, think again.
September 25, 2017
All things are quiet on the "homefront" of Wabbit Habitat today. No Bunny Pick Up Days for another few weeks. I am trying to get enough Healthy Bunny Starter Kits created for the upcoming Pick Up Days. Have 15 I believe so far. I think that will be enough for the ones that want one. I am in the process of updating my Bunny Pick Up Day chart and going to begin contacting folks to get things lined up for those 2 days, Oct. 7th & 8th. This week I will be creating the pedigrees to go home with them and the Information Sheet. I will be waiting till the Monday before to bag up the "transition" food and the "complimentary" hay. Wow, and this is only 3 litters... can't imagine what December is going to bring with 12 ugh... I am gonna go mad... hahaha, what have I done?
September 23, 2017
Working hard to create a menagerie of colorful babies for your Christmas selection. We should have around 12 litters , if all goes as planned and they all "take". Time will tell. We shall know sometime in October for sure how well the breeding went. Keep in constant connection with our "home page" , where you will see the litter "congratulations" for each litter born and then on the "available bunnies" page where they will be posted. In the meantime, we have Elcipse Bred babies and Hurricane Irma babies to watch grow up and then the last ones be born soon. You can also check out who is going to be our future parents by looking at my page - "Future Litters" ... there you will see an approximate "home date" for the babies that are planned. I have it corrected all the way up to our Valentine's Day litters. I am still working on the Easter litters and "tweaking" that for the next week or so.
September 19, 2017
Let the Christmas Breeding Begin.... Well folks we are on our way with the Christmas litter breeding again. Going to have a whole batch of babies this year if all works out as planned. But keep in mind, some of these are "1st time" moms and inexperienced and may lose a few wee ones if they have them on the wire vs in the nest they build. This happens even to experienced pro moms, like Ms. Peaches this time. The reason she only has 1 baby now... she had the 1st baby on the wire despite the lovely huge nest she built a few days beforehand. But , at least she has the 1. And this is the 1st time in a long time that she has even gotten pregnant, so we won't be hard on her. She is such a lovely bun and so very sweet with her guinea pig grunts. hahaha, think she is half guniea pig... only girl or bun I have ever had that is that vocal. Don't worry, it happens. Anyway, we are not far from awaiting the Eclipse litters births... Nestle and Jupiter.... get it " Jupiter /Eclipse babies" thought that was funny. Just 2 days , that is if one or both don't go early... so excited.
September 16, 2017
Apple Festival in Lincolnton today , everyone , please come on down. Wonderful fun and lots of folks to meet. Many freebies, great food. Everyone should go at least once. I used to take one of my bunnies with me but the noises were way too much. They have bands, loud cars , motorcycles sometimes... etc, not to mention , I think all pets are now "banned", if I am not mistaken. Anyway, it is a fun day for all... I encourage you to go. Helps my home town too.
September 12, 2017
Well the main section of Hurricane Irma winds was supposed to have come through last night and I am on pins n needles waiting on daylight to inspect the damages it caused... I sure pray there won't be much issues, already have my plate running over with stuff to do. Waiting to see what Hurricane Jose is going to do now. Oh , and by the way, we do have "Hurricane Irma" bred babies in 31 days....also Eclipse bred babies due in only 9 days. Hope you all have a safe and "hoppy" day!
September 11, 2017
We have taken up all of the bunnies' outside toys, closed up the playpens, covered the outside hutches and put as many does into the barn as I can fit for extra safety from whatever comes our way from Irma's back lash. I realize that even though the main part of the Hurricane won't come through here now... we could still have tornadoes that "spin off" from it. We could also have power outtages. I have collected 8 massive tubs of water for them and bought up a pile of food - just in case the road gets closed. The babies that could go home, went home "for their safety". So I think I am ready for this, mostly. Ugh... hate this.
Also, Remember 9 -11 today... so sad. So glad our Americans can pull together in horrible times and help each other. May God touch those who ended up losing folks in that tragedy and ease their sore hearts.
September 9, 2017
Due to the "unfortunate" Hurricane Irma, I have called in the folks for this upcoming "bunny pick up day" to come get their babies a few days early. I am so worried it will hit here harder than they are "predicting" like Hurricane Hugo did that I think they will each be safer with their new families, since I am having to deal with so very many adults and other babies. They have been weaned at 5 to 6 weeks of age and are so close to their birthday, a few days won't matter, especially when their safety may be at risk otherwise. I have large trees behind my rabbitry that , normally are a blessing with the shade, but could be a curse with this storm and the tornados it can spawn. God help us all. Prayers please!
September 6, 2017
Can you believe it is time to breed for Christmas babies? Wow, how the year flies by.... I now have 2 sets of breeding pairs ramping up for our Christmas babies. I plan on having 12 to 13 litters if they all "take" and all goes well. Right now, Cadbury & Mocha ( my chocolates) and Biscuit & Gremlin ( my new harlequin boy and a broken tort girl) are hoping to "make us proud" in 31 days. So that should be near around the first week in October and we shall start seeing our Christmas litter appearances. So very excited to see the new babies to be soon. This month will be very busy with breeding and fixing the inside of the barn to hold that many moms n babies. I have a bunch of work ahead of me... prayers please for my back has been giving me a fit lately... thanks in advance.
August 30, 2017
Well my Patches boy found him a new home yesterday. His son, Gremlin , will be taking his place in the Harlequin Buck area for breeding. He is a handsome little guy too. His pic is on the "my bunny family" page. I think Patches will be covered with love and kisses. He found a sweet young lady to take him and spoil him. She brought a big cage to put him in and filled the bottom with fluffy purple stuff and he immediately went to digging in it. He was in and out of the little plastic castle they had in there for him too. He did not seem the least bit scared of the different place since he had so much digging to do. I do hope he slept well and did well on his first night there. I will text her this morning to see how he did.
August 28, 2017
Gorgeous weather and the babies have gotten to play outside every day in the pens and enjoy the sunshine. I took a few photos, but I have got to take the time to take more , possibly today. I updated the "what's happening at Wabbit Habitat Today" on the bottom of the Available Bunnies page. Am a bit behind it seems.... so much to take care of ... mom, pool, flowers, bunnies, hubby ( hahaha, on that last one, he takes care of himself mostly). New babies due any day, they don't always "go" on the 1st day they are mated on, these buns were mated for several days consecutively, so they could "go" up to 3 days after or more. Depending on if they are "late".
August 26, 2017
Poor little Sunshine still has found no home. I sure hate that he is lonely and no one has picked him. He was "on hold" for so long and then they decided they didn't want him the week he was supposed to go home - today would have been his bunny pick up day, even though he turned 8 weeks old on this last Wednesday. If you know of anyone who would love an absolutely adorable and sweet baby boy bunny, please let them know about Sunshine and his sweet personality. He is always at the door of the cage when you come by in hopes that I will come pet him. So loving and just closes his eyes when I rub his little head. Loves to go outside to play too. Have them call or text me if they are interested in giving Sunshine a loving home. 704-742-1326.
August 24, 2017
Our Eclipse bred babies should be "on the way" soon. In about 27 days I believe. I bred 2 litters, hope they both "took". We will see soon. On the other hand had a baby "left behind" the other day. They guy that had put a deposit on him decided he just wanted the first bunny he already had bought from Wabbit Habitat at home and backed out on Sunshine. He is a lovely Broken Orange buck and of course you get to re-name him on his pedigree. Call or text if you are interested 704-742-1326.
August 20, 2017
Bunny Pick Up Day was successful and there are now 4 baby bunnies in strange houses being spoiled beyond their dreams. I am so excited for those babies. Their new bunny parents told me all about their "set ups" and they sound fantastic! The one lady, Angela, whose photo did not take (she will send me one soon) sent me earlier in the day a very cute picture of her bunny set up and it is adorable. She even has it back lit so bunny can have a nite lite. Can you say "spoiled rotten" , hahaha, I love it!
August 19, 2017
Today is Bunny Pick Up Day and I am excited to meet the new people and see how they are going to love how much their bunnies have grown. They are going to love how sweet and friendly they are too. It will be sad to see them go, but I am so happy they have found loving homes to give them each the individual love and attention and spoiling they deserve. I started spoiling them folks, now it is up to you to finish, haha.
August 14, 2017
Wow, these babies are coming fast it seems. Pixel went a bit early and had hers yesterday and still waiting on Peaches. She is due today. Ebony and Siberia are well on the way to having cute "furry" babies in the next few days. I already took their pics and they are online now, kind of not too pretty yet. You will definitely see a difference once the 1 week pics are taken several days from now. Won't be very long and I will be breeding for Christmas babies! Can you believe it? I breed in September for the Christmas ones. That is only a few weeks away! Whew! Time sure flies.
August 13, 2017
Several folks have picked up their bunnies yesterday and the day before. Their pics will be online on the "new owners" page instead of on the "available bunnies" page too for a small amount of time. I am killing myself doing things double. So now I have changed and they go straight to the "new owners" page. If I get the opportunity they may also be posted in "what's happening at wabbit habitat today" section on the Available Bunnies page. I am excited to have the opportunity this year to have well over a dozen bunny moms to breed for our Christmas litters. So there will be many colors to choose from for that time of the year. Because of this you will see a big drop in bunny babies from us here in October and November. The moms are being held back to breed in September for the Christmas litters. It does not mean we won't have litters for October and November, just very few, because of the upcoming Christmas demands.
August 9, 2017
I want to apologise to all of my readers if I do not get around to "blogging" as often. The next few weeks are going to be really hectic for my family as we are dealing with some "life issues" and if you pray, prayers are greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. And please forgive me if I get a bit late on various things such as photos online.
August 7, 2017
Wow, blinked my eyes and it is 6 days later! Sorry bout the pause in blogging. Been so very busy these warm summer days. Just finished my bunny play pen. Got my latches yesterday. Once they are on there I can let the bunnies have fun. I can hardly wait. I already "cheated" , even before it was level , I let my girl Pebbles play inside a bit. The video is on my Wabbit Habitat on Facebook, if you would like to see it. Bless her heart. It is kind of funny and sad, cause I had not leveled it up yet and set it down in the spot it was going to be in and the poor girl was dealing with slicky flooring and off balance. I took her out as soon as the video was over. She will like it better maybe this evening if I can get those latches on by myself. If not she may wait till hubby has time tomorrow to help me hook them on there. The "s" hooks have to be pried apart a bit then mashed back together. Not sure my feeble hands can do that, but I will try. Pics will be on the bottom of the "available bunnies" page under "what's happening at Wabbit Habitat today".
August 1, 2017
Wow, where did the summer go???? I am so upset that these gorgeous summer months seem to fly by and the winter just drags on. I know it is still warm in August and September, but wow, time has flown since May started.
Oh well, enough of that. It was son nice the last few days outside, that I have spent the majority of each day out. I have parked myself up under my Mimo tree's shade and have begun building my 3 story 3' x 5' run for the bunnies. I can't wait to complete it! Pictures of the project, soon. I promise.
July 30, 2017
Well today is Bunny Pick Up Day too and I have several more folks coming this evening and the majority of 2 litters will be in their new homes adjusting to new households. I do hope they all do well. Hugs n prayers for you little bugs of mine.
July 29, 2017
Woo Hoo, today is Bunny Pick Up Day for several litters and I am so excited to get to meet the new parents and to see some of them again. I can't wait to see their happy faces and the excitement they have at meeting their new little fuzzy bundle of joy! They are gonna love these babies, I am sure. Pictures as soon as I can post on the "New Owners" page!
July 28, 2017
Wow , am I behind on blogging. I do appologize. Lots going on with bunny pick up day this weekend... Had to make pedigrees and print them and sign them, place in plastic sheet protectors, make food and hay baggies up for folks to take home, print out info. sheets, take babies out to play daily, etc. They have been loving this cooler 80's temps.
July 19, 2017
I know this has nothing to do with the bunnies, but our air conditioner gave out on us yesterday and it got really hot here in the house while they were connecting the new one . Well , finally yesterday afternoon they got it temporarily connected and finally cooling after they messed up the wiring the first time and had it putting out heat instead of air. Got it up to 82 degrees inside. whew! Anyway so we were happy when it was working just before bedtime..... welll.... Now last night we set it on 76 degrees ( I know for some of you that is hot) but at night we feel that is comfy. So I got up this morning with my mouth so very dry and freezing with the covers pulled way up... that dang thing won't stop cooling... now it is already down to 68 degrees and it is set on 76. So I turned it up to 79... it is still going... by the time they get here today to put the new thermostat in we will be frozen popscicles... am debating on turning it off.... but then that 80+ degrees is worrying me too... but brrrrr. Think I will go to the bunny barn to warm up at a toasty 78.
July 17, 2017
Well yet another Bunny Pick Up Day has come and gone with great success. Lots of happy faces and excited bunnies ready for their new homes. Hopefully they all enjoyed their new places last night and are settling in well this morning. I aways worry they will get too scared and not eat or something. Hope you all have a wonderful and fulfilling day today!
July 12, 2017
Well, I am actually beginning to feel "human" again. For the last 2 days I have been trying to overcome "food poisoning". ugh. I am just now beginning to eat right. Tummy is still kind of iffy. Perhaps today I will be able to get a few more things accomplished. You wouldn't believe how something so simple can really mess up your life. The bad thing is no matter how bad I feel, I still have to drag myself outside 2 times a day to feed and water bunnies, hey, I guess I chose this life, right?
July 10, 2017
First of all, I want to wish my son-in-law a most glorious birthday today! I am so glad you are part of our family and that you make my daughter happy.
Ok, down to business. I am in the process of trying to sell off my huge hutches and bring in more individualized hutches for each bunny. So if anyone knows of someone who wants a large 2 story hutch have them give me a call at 704-742-1326. They are wonderfully large and can house 3 to 4 bunnies that get along well inside them. Upstairs has a screened front porch w 2 doors, the tops open with storage on the one side. Ramp to go down and a closed off upstairs back with a screened door to open and let air flow through. The full downstairs is open and has 4 entrance doors for ease of "bunny catching" , hahaha. I have 2 of these hutches - please call the number above for pricing. I will assist you in taking them apart to move them, that way you will know how to put them back together. And , no, they cannot be moved in one piece and whole because they will not fit out the doorway.
July 2, 2017
Hoppy (Happy) July 4th to all of you , a bit early. Just in case I get too busy to blog on that day. May everyone have a safe and enjoyable Independence Day celebration.
June 30, 2017
Wow, this month has flown by. What is it about summer that makes it slip away so quickly? I love, love, love summer. Well , I guess you can tell we have had several litters born here of late. The latest being QT's litter of 2. She had difficulty and lost the first 2. She is a smaller bunny, making labor harder sometimes. The 2 she has seem very healthy and cute. Both are brokens like mom n dad. Just one more litter due very soon and that is Biscuit. It is her 1st time, so who knows how this will go. Nest building class, I believe she has flunked out of... going to have to help her with that one it seems. I am not truly sure she is pregnant either. So I really can't put too much blame on her. And it is her 1st time. We will see in just a few short days if this mating "took" or not. Stay tuned.....
June 25, 2017
I am sick as a dog with this 'allergy mess' . I wish it would go away. I have felt so rotten, I am not getting things done that I should be doing. Just lying around and sleeping. It wears me down so dang much. Wow, I hope this junk leaves me soon, have so much I am behind on doing. If you are a praying person, please pray I get well soon, thanks in advance.
June 23, 2017
Well it seems I have "done myself in". 2 days ago I mowed grass then cleaned out the barn and that was enough allergens all at once to cause a reaction. Fun, fun, NOT. Hayfever type symptoms and lots of sneezing, coughing etc. Even up to wheezing on the out -take of breath. Not hit the dr.s yet, hoping I can naturally take care of it. Doesn't help that I will now have about 5 does with nestboxes full of yellow hay
( another high allergy cause for me) Hopefully it will be nice weather ( cooler) and I can keep the windows of the barn open with fresh air for myself. Time will tell. On the up side, I have several does due this very week , so excited to see what and how many they have and the lovely colors. It is like Christmas to me!
June 20, 2017
Boy has this month of June "flown by" fast. Can you believe there are only 10 more days in this month. I wonder why the gorgeous spring & summer months seem to do that and the nasty cold winter ones drag on endlessly. Guess I was made for Florida! One day perhaps that dream will come true!
June 18, 2017
Hoppy (Happy) Father's Day to all Dad's today! And also to all Bunny Dads ! May you all have a wonderful day!
June 15, 2017
Wow this month has flown past! Already we are in to the middle of the month. Seems like it was just yesterday when I called my step sister on the 6th and told her Happy Birthday, and here it is the 15th! Today I will be re-organizing my work station in the bunny barn. Seems like that area is a perfect place to just sit something down for "just a bit" before I put it somewhere else, hahaha. Yeah right... it stays there a week it seems. I am sure all of us have an area we just "put stuff" . That is my go to place for finding lost stuff it seems. Going to "fix" that today (again).
Can't wait for my upcoming litter from Snow and Mocha. The babies should be here in only 4 or 5 days. And she DOES look very pregnant, bless her heart. Hot spring time, but at least she is in air conditioning.
June 13, 2017
Well I guess I miss a few days more than I should have on here. Sorry folks, it has been so very busy with spring hitting us. My hand grown hay has been needing cut down ( by hand) by me to dry daily, lots of veggies in my garden had to be picked and the blueberries and black berries are all ripe at once it seems (daily) , not to mention I am getting behind taking up the other greens for bunnies and watering daily since we have not been having rain of late. Hopefully today our 40% chance will get us. I have plenty of babies to be chosen though and more on the way. Down to just the babies and one poor little black bunny (misnamed evidently) as Lucky. I marked her down again in hopes of finding her a new home sooner. She is now only $75 - pedigree and all. So if you know someone that wants a "steal" on a bunny, have them call me at 704-742-1326. Adorable , sweet and is now 10 weeks old, will be 11 weeks tomorrow.
June 8, 2017
Zander is "sale pending" now , so we only have 2 "available now" bunnies left. Lucky & Carbon. Adorable black vc bucks - call 704-742-1326 if interested.

Well this week is Bunny Pick up Week for several of the babies... I still have 3 babies that can go home TODAY -Lucky (black vc doe) $85 , Carbon (black vc buck)$95 and Zander ( Japanese Harlequin buck)$105. Go check out their photos on the "available bunnies" page! Adorable.
Been busy finishing up my inside cage cleaning... down to 3 and not sure if I am going to put them back inside or not just yet... the extra floor room is great ,and it is nice weather outside so lots of the buns are now outdoors in the shade. It gives me more room for the indoor playpen for rainy days and more room to set up my chair for nail trimming on bunnies. Just not sure where I would store them. Will probably set them back up any way, cause as soon as the next few litters are weaned will have to put the moms somewhere, hahaha. Forgot about that little tidbit of info. Oh well , off to clean and touch up paint on cages. Have a nice day!

Well, little Muffy that got brought back because of allergies to bunnies finally found a great home yesterday. The sweetest family, I am proud to say they seem to really love her. It was so sad for the lady that had to give her up, she was really torn up and so were her kids. She will be glad to know that the bunny will be taken care of for sure. They renamed her Olive. Now if we can just get someone to want our last little black bunny, Lucky. Wow, did I nickname her wrong. Poor thing. She is 8 weeks old and so very adorable.

Been a while since I have blogged. A lot going on around here. Hubby's surgery did not go so well. They did NOT get his stone. The drs are waiting till May 31st to send him to have it beaten up in that machine then... hopefully that will take care of it. In the meantime, he has to wear a stint up to his kidney to help flow and cannot work . Bless his heart, he is getting bored silly since he cannot do heavy lifting etc, he is kind of home bound.
May 19, 2017,
Hubby went in for kidney stone surgery yesterday and they did nothing but put a stint in place to keep flow going until "possibly" next Wednesday ( the only day of the week they do Lipotripsy, beating the back to break up the stone) is done... please pray for him the pain is awful. He hurt some before he went in , now he hurts 5 times worse with the stint. The pain meds seem to be doing a bit better this morning, but prayers are needed. And again I do apologize to all of you waiting on baby bunny pics. I will try my best to "catch up" today on taking some of them. Hopefully tonight I can get them online. Bunny Pick Up Days are still scheduled for tomorrow and Sunday.
May 17, 2017
May be late on some bunny pics the next few days. Have a human patient to assist. My hubby will go thru surgery for a kidney stone and will need assistance for a few days. Those things are Painful! So please excuse my lateness folks, it will only be temporary.
May 13, 2017
Well, today was Bunny Pick Up Day and it all went off rather well. Everyone seemed to be happy with their new family members and the bunnies all seemed to be really "taken" with their new moms n dads. They seemed to be starting off their new lives on the right foot. Can't wait to hear and see how they are doing. Had promises of future photos they are going to share with me. Excited for them all. Next week is another Bunny Pick Up Weekend... there are about 14 to go that weekend. Boy will I be "tired" at the end of the weekend... hahaha. But it is worth it!!!
May 10, 2017
Well looks like Dutchess went through false pregnancy. It happens. Such a disappointment. Oh well, maybe next time. Lots of "spring cleaning" going on around here. Almost finished all the inside cages... now for the "breeding" cages in the back. They will get cleaned and painted and placed back one by one. Then I have 3 single hutches that need painting when all the is complete. Never a dull moment around here. In the mean time I have a bunny garden and our garden to keep up as well as the pool and all the flowers and household.
May 5, 2017
Awaiting Dutchess' litter. It can be "nerve wracking". She is a new mom and I get worried about that aspect. Sometimes they won't have them in the nest box. Sometimes they won't feed them. Yet, sometimes it all goes right. I sure hope she does not have too bad a time of it. They are due today.
May 3, 2017
I am excited to announce that Muffy, the chestnut doe above has found her a new home yesterday! She is surrounded by 5 excited little girls and a mom n dad at this very moment being hugged on and loved on right before they go to school! Now if we can find Dumpling a home so she won't have to be alone. She has been with Muffy since birth and last night had to sleep alone, bless her wee little bunny heart. I am sure she was scared and a bit colder since her sister was not there to hug up close to. Perhaps soon someone will want little Dumpling. Going to take a new photo of her today and post it.
May 1, 2017
Well, maybe my luck has turned around just a bit. My phone is now back working. How long , you just never know . But at least it is on now. On the "down" side , two babies came back to me the other day from a lady that is having some "bad luck"of her own. She is going to have move into a rental place and they do not allow her pets. So Dumpling & Muffy came back. I hate it for her and her kids they were a bit upset. But I am sure I can find a home for such cute bunnies. I put them on the home page and also on the "available bunnies" page. Hopefully we can find them new homes soon. Also above.
April 29, 2017
Can't believe my bad luck!!! Yesterday my brand new cell phone was compromised with water and so it is "drying out" , hopefully NOT DYING, in a baggie of silica gel packets. Dear Lord in Heaven , I sure hope it is not the end of its short little phone life. On top of that mess, my stinking cover on my pool broke sending a pile of gooey green leaves and water into the pool last weekend when we were attempting to remove the cover , so now I am battling algae and cloudy water. Put the Sink n Swim in there to Flocculate and fall to the bottom and the stupid chemicals did NOT work, so I have to start all over again.... ugh. This has NOT been my week for sure. Hope whoever is getting my "good luck" is enjoying it, cause I sure want it back very , very soon!!! hahaha, please pray for my sanity. thanks.
April 27, 2017
Whew! Finally finished cleaning out the outside bunnies' pens. That is quite a job and because of the extended rain we have been having it had been put off too long. Nice fresh hay for all inside and out. They should enjoy that , except the boys... now they have to make their place smell like themselves again. hahaha.
April 25, 2017
Well, Springtime has "sprung" and we are in the middle of a "monsoon" here at Wabbit Habitat. Have had to postpone several bunny tours just because of the weather. Perhaps this week will be much better starting today. I have 1 last Easter bunny pick up
( lady went on vacation right during pick up time and had to "board" him with me). Luckily he was a bit smaller than some of the other 8 week olds and only had to spend 2 nights alone before I ended up having to "wean" one of the litters due to bunny mom "getting freaky" with them. She was , for some reason, trying to mate with her own babies. Poor babies. I was so very glad I had happened to be in the barn when she did this because they were scared to death of her. I promptly took her little bunny butt out of the pen and was so mad at her I took her straight to a boy and gave her what she so badly wanted. ( I know, that was probably WRONG since I was going to give her a month or so off, but in the heat of the moment , well that is what I did) Then I ran back into the barn and cuddled her babies , each one... bless their wee little hearts. I have never had this happen before. So any way, I brought the "boarding" baby over to be with them so he would not be alone and I think that helped as a surrogate room mate/mom. Even though he is a he. hahaha. They all cuddled together and then fell asleep. And mom bunny is getting what she "needed" with Splatter.
April 23, 2017
Things are going nicely in the "spring cleaning" area .... slow but steady... have 10 more cages to accomplish. I had a few issues with a few moms "ditching" their babies a few days early before they are 6 weeks. So I had to wean 2 litters a few days sooner than expected. (mom buns were trying to "mate" w the babies) guess they were tired of feeding them, and wanted a new litter.... who knows... it has happened once before and the litter was fine being only 5 days before their normal weaning time anyway. But still it is upsetting to me and the babies. They are all doing fine. Have no idea why the mom buns both did this... strange!
April 20, 2017
Been doing a bunch of "spring cleaning" in the rabbitry until the rain hit yesterday. I was taking out 3 cages at a time to spray out and sterilize and then rinse and replace. I am on my 2nd batch, but the weather won't co-operate it seems. I just may take them out in the rain and let "mother nature" help me on the wash cycle , hahaha. Would really love to go thru the whole rabbitry bit by bit before the next round of babies begins in only 10 days. I really need to "get hoppin'" , hahaha.
April 17, 2017
Well almost all of the Easter babies are in their new homes... only 2 more to go. 1 today and 1 on the 27th. She is boarding the baby because of vacation time. I only do that if it falls during their home dates. Otherwise I can give you the name of a reputable person who does board bunnies. But the barn seems so very empty now... 3 full cages of babies gone... kinda sad... but now it is "cleaning time" ... moving each bunny to a different cage ( since I have a few empty) and cleaning each cage thoroughly... painting or repairing if needed ... and they all get fresh cages... this may take some time, hahaha. Especially since it is calling for rain... hey I may could get them outside and let nature clean them a bit before I do. Now to concentrate on loving up more on my new May and June home date babies and the mothers to be....
April 14, 2017
So far all the Bunny Pick Up Days for Easter babies has gone off very well. Sad to see all my little ones leave, but so exciting to see the wonderful and friendly sweet folks they are going home with. They all have such great plans for their babies! Many of them have built extra special places for them at their own home and are so very excited to finally get to meet them. I am sure they will all have so much fun together. I try to let all the folks know I am only a phone call or text away if anything health - wise comes up... I am no veterinarian, but I do know a lot of things about their health that can help their situations. So please don't think that once you get a baby bun from me I wash my hands of you... you have a bunny life time life line. Can't wait to meet all the new bunny parents today!!!
April 10, 2017
Well this week is going to be full. I have almost every day covered and splattered with bunny pick up times. I tried to give everyone a time that worked for them and so I am "hopping" for sure this week! hahaha just in time for Easter. The last of the Easter /April babies will have left by next Monday the 17th. I will miss them, but at the same time, that many babies has driven me "mad" hahaha. Perhaps things will get back to a wee bit normal once they are in their new loving homes.
April 9, 2017
Well, Yesterday was Bunny Pick Up Day for Cadbury's litter and it went off very well. I even sold the very last Easter bunny, Dumpling to one of the sweet ladies that came to pick up her daughter a baby. She fell in love with her immediately , as soon as she picked her up. I know they will have a wonderful new home. I realize it must be difficult from the bunny's viewpoint to start all over in a very new and strange place. But the folks I met yesterday are going to do their darnedest to make them comfortable and an easy transition. They are going to love their new homes.
April 7, 2017
Wow, can't believe I have not been blogging... bad girl! I have been so very busy of late with all the Easter/April babies leaving and getting ready to leave for their new "forever families". Yesterday I worked on Pedigrees for almost half a day. Several of my does were not in my program and I had to add them before I could generate a pedigree. I created my very own Pedigree form in Excel and I love the way I have placed a watermark photo behind the pedigree of one of my own bunnies, Snow to be exact. They are truly lovely , I think. Not the every day run of the mill boring pedigree. That is why I do not use a program for mine, but created my own. I am a little "out there" in the creative world... hahaha, a bit more work, but worth it. Anyway... pedigrees are ready, now today I will package up this weeks' bunny take home foods and hay. I will do next weeks' a little closer to time. I want them to get fresh food. Can't wait to meet all the new bunny parents this week. In case you are new bunny parent reading this, please check out the page "Wabbit Habitat" on the tab provided on the Home Page here. It provides all kinds of information that should be very helpful to someone that is taking home one of our babies. That's all for now folks!
March 31, 2017
Good morning all! Just a few things to say... the beginnings of the Easter / April babies have begun to go home. Sad to see them go, but still very exciting to meet all the new folks and see the cool set ups they frequently share pics with me. I am so very glad my new babies are getting such wonderful humans that love them so much to create a special little "world" all for just them. I am sure they will be getting all kinds of love and not have to share all the hugs with their siblings as they did here. I wish them and their new bunny parents a long happy , healthy life together!
March 28, 2017
Got in touch with almost all of the folks for bunny pick up days this weekend... the 8th week birthday of the bunnies' is actually on Wednesday and some folks chose to do it then instead of the weekend. Which is fine with me, because my birthday is that Friday and I would love to go yard sale hopping on Saturday if it is nice weather. The babies have grown so quickly and are ready for their new families to take them home. Can't wait to meet all the nice new bunny parents!
March 24, 2017
Getting ready for Bunny Pick up Day already. Starting the Pedigree Printing and catagorizing them to what day in the file they are picked up. Making the chart for pick up day to keep myself straight as to who is coming and when and what bunny they are getting and how much they owe. Closer to time I will bag up the food baggies I give out. That is usually the day before. I want it fresh for the babies to take home to transition to the new family's food. Excited but sad to see the wee ones go... but I know they will get even more one on one attention , whereas here, they had to share attention... even tho each one gets held daily, the time amount seems too short when you have so many. I will truly miss them.
March 23, 2017
Had to turn the heat lamps on again last night, there was a freeze warning out for our weather. I covered up my Marigolds I just planted in front of the rabbit pens. Hopefully that will be all the freezing weather we have. So tired of the cold!
The babies and nursing moms are really loving this weather. They get to go outside to play when it is nice like this. I had 2 litters out all day yesterday. Would have switched them out more, but my allergies/cold is getting the better part of my energy. Hopefully it will all be cleared up by bunny pick up day on the 1st of April.
March 19, 2017
It was gorgeous yesterday and I spent the better part of the day bringing baskets of babies outside to play, but I forgot to take photos... can you believe it? Oh well maybe today. I was busy doing weekly photography inside while they played outside and cleaning pens. I also had 1 visitor that bought 2 bunnies and we chatted for a spell. Then at the end of the day I went down to Lincolnton and cleaned my Mom's house and went out to supper with a friend. Mom had just come back from supper with her friend so she wasn't hungry again. They had gone all the way to Gastonia to eat at Market Street, she was so happy. You just got to love my mom, she is 92 years old and such a hoot!
March 17, 2017
Happy ST. Patrick's Day to all!
It is with great regret that I am about to sell my very 1st doe, Delilah. She has been a wonderful bunny as a "pet" , a great mother and producer of many babies. However, she has become very , very hormonal and quite "protective" of her babies to a dangerous extent on my part. She "cools off" about the 3rd day after delivery, but I am still real cautious around her when checking out the babies' health and welfare. I have grown very tired of "walking on eggshells" when she is bred, so I am going to leave it up to someone else to do that with her. I am unable to bring her in my house and keep her just as a pet, due to allergy conditions to her hay she eats, or she would retire as a pet. I am sure she can make someone else very happy as either a pet or a breeding doe. Someone with more patience than I
( for the breeding part). She is a "chocolate carrier" and can and has produced chocolate babies. Fully Pedigreed too!
March 14, 2017
Well the 1st thing I just have to say this morning is HAPPY BIRTHDAY ADAM! Today is my son, Adam's 25th birthday. Quite an accomplishment to make it 25 years! I don't say this lightly either, because I have seen so very many deaths in young people too. I am very proud of my son. He has worked hard and gotten 2 Masters degrees, both in Mathematics and that is no easy task. He now has a Computer Consult job and has been living on his own now for quite some time. He is still single, some lucky gal has not come across my fairly quiet and "home body" son. Perhaps one day, but until then I wish him happiness and peace and success in all that he does, as well as good health! Sorry, I know this has nothing to do with rabbits. But it is MY blog.
March 12, 2017
Bunny Pick Up Day went off without a hitch and now there are 4 baby bunnies out there in their new "forever homes". This morning they are waking up to a new pen, new family, new toys and food and water bowls and different sounds and smells without the comfort of their siblings. I am sure it is hard on them no matter how sweet the new folks are, but they will adapt and learn to love being the center of attention. They already received lots of love and attention from me, but it was divided between them and their siblings. Now they get ALL the love. Which should be a wonderful plus for them. It was truly great to get to meet everyone after I have been chatting with them via text or phone for the majority of 8 weeks awaiting the time their babies could go home with them. I wish them all the very best and I tried to make it known that I am always only a phone call away in any issue that may arise with their bunny.
March 11, 2017
Well today is Bunny Pick Up Day for 4 folks and 4 bunnies. I will be excited to meet all the new bunny parents and can't wait to see their faces when they see their sweet baby for the 1st time in person. These wee critters have sure done some growing in only 8 weeks. I can't wait for the babies to experience their new homes. I know they are just going to love them and all the new added attention they will get. I am sure it will be a bit scary for them at first with all the new smells and sights and no bunny nursery smell and no sisters or brothers to pile up on top of each night. But they will settle in just fine and start their new life. Pictures will be up some time tonight.
March 7, 2017
Re-covering my Nursery Barn walls. Tired of the old blue that was on the walls and decided to get a fresh new look- going real light pink on 3 walls and a cream on the front wall. Hopefully will lighten up the place a bit. Hope I can take "pink" for a year or so before I go pink crazy... hahaha. Not my favorite color, but some of the other colors I can get it in are way too dark, and on cold days I keep the curtains closed to keep out the dampness and it really looks dark. Of course I do turn on the bunnies' rope lighting, but that doesn't light the whole place up. Will have to remember to do that and make a photo... it makes it really "dreamy" looking in there for them. I love it and it give them more light on super cloudy days.
March 4, 2017
Well, today is bunny pick up day and I have several folks that will be coming to get their new "bunndles of joy" ... yes I spelled that with 2 n's on purpose... get it bunny bundles... o well, so my humor is just not there too good at 6:29 am ... I tried. Yesterday one of the ladies came to get her new babies. They were her 3rd and 4th bunnies she had gotten from Wabbit Habitat. I am here to tell you.. bunnies are "addictive", hahaha. I was also just contacted by another sweet lady whose family now has at least 7 of our bunnies. She has a large family herself and the kids just love them! But mostly these babies belong to only 2 of her girls... they have got the "rabbit fever" hahaha, get it the fever for a rabbit.... ok, I will shut up now...
March 2, 2017
Well, March came in like a Lion yesterday. We had thunder storms and very high winds. Luckily I tied all my outside bunnies down( hahaha, just kidding). but I did tighten up the ties on any tarps over them. I think we all made it through so far. Maybe the rest of March will be a "lamb".
February 27, 2017
Such a difference yesterday was unitl late last night around 8 or 9 pm I had 3 folks messaging me at the same time for various bunnies, but no one made an exact choice yet. One was even interested in my Peaches girl. I am placing her up for sale as a pet. Bless her heart she has just had issue after issue in the breeding and kindling department. She seems otherwise 100% fine. But she either does not get pregnant or when she does only has 1 dead baby or labors for long periods of time and no babies then 2 or 3 dead ones days later. So sad and she tried her best to "adopt" and care for Godiva's wee one but she did not have enough milk. It dried up after a few days and the baby was starving so Gypsy got her... boy was she mad at me when I took her only baby ( so she thought it was hers anyway). Drifter is doing well in Gypsy's care so far. Still smaller than usual but still plugging along and now has her eyes open. Thanks for all the prayers folks.
February 26, 2017
I know, I know... I have skipped a few days... hahaha. I was extremely busy yesterday... selling bunnies... wow, you are not gonna believe that 5 babies "flew off the shelf " yesterday, just within a few hours. Those folks kept me "hoppin"... hahaha. It was fun though. I kept having to go up to the computer at the house so much my bunnies that usually eat at around 10 am ended up eating at 3 pm.. poor buns. Any how, the rush has slowed for now... of course it is only 6 am. I am happy to have some new homes for the babies. They all sounded like such nice sweet people so excited for a new family member.
February 23, 2017
Getting ready to wean the 2nd litter of March babies today. They will be 6 weeks old and they are all pushing 20 ounces in weight, if not more. Hefty little boogers are dragging mama Snow down quickly. Poor girl, she is small anyway. They will do fine. Eating very well on their own and mama Snow needs a rest!
February 21, 2017
Yesteday was such a lovely day. The 6 week old weaned babies of Ebony got to play outside all day long until just before the sun went down. Poor Mocha was being "torchered" by them running around his house. Sometimes I take him out , but he seemed fine with them and did not want to bite them through the wire. He is a sweet fella. I did get some much needed painting done on the ramp that was in Dallas' pen and I planted a whole bunch of Daffodils in front of the Leland Cypress trees outside of the fence yesterday. When the babies got back to their inside pen they all immediately took naps. So sweet.
February 19, 2017
Yesterday the babies ( 5 & 6 week olds) got to go outside to play in the big 10' x 10' pens. They had a blast running through the tunnels , climbing on the rocks and ramps , digging in the sandbox, jumping into the ball pit and snooting in the straw. Needless to say, after they came back in late in the evening they were all so tired they immediately took naps. They are so much like children. I remember when I would send mine out to play in the playground at home when they were small they did the same thing. Then they woke up absolutely ravenous with hunger. Hahaha, bunny babies and human babies are very much alike.
February 16, 2017
Well last night was a flurry of activity and this morning we have 2 lovely new litters of babies. Echo & Gypsy had their 5 babies each. They all look very healthy and fat. I am so tickled that they seemed to have no issues kindling. They both "hit the nest" with the babies and had none on the wire either. Another relief. I watched my surveilance camera last night until midnight and no babies at that time, so it must have been up into the wee hours of the morning or just this morning before daylight, because I found them all at 6 am. Photos of the groups are on the "available bunnies" page at the top.
February 13, 2017
Well the last of the Valentine's Babies left this weekend. Kind of sad not seeing those frisky little boogers outside at play. They were so very adorable meeting me at the cage door for hugs n kisses, now I have a new generation to bring up to be loving for someone else. At least I get to love on them for 8 weeks. I am sure they are all nestled comfortably in their new beds , in their new homes with their new bunny moms n dads, happy and content. I am sure all the loving folks that took them home will love them as I have done and give them even more individual attention. After all, they had to share my hugs n kisses with brothers n sisters, now they get all the hugs n kisses.
February 11, 2017
Today is Bunny Pick Up Day and the last of the Valentine's Litters will be in their new forever homes. I am excited for both the bunnies and the new bunny families that will be here today. Can't wait to meet all the folks I have been chatting with now for 8 weeks. It is almost like I am the Dr. and they are the adopted parents coming to get their wee one. I really love to see all the happy faces when they meet their baby , some of them for the very first time. Most folks just watch them grow up through my weekly photos and then are so surprised at how very much more adorable they are in person and how very sweet they are when being held. I feel so happy knowing that each of these babies are going to be loved and adored and showered with attention even more than I can give them. ( since my attention is divided by the number of baby bunnies I have) Photos of today's new bunny owners will be online late this evening.
February 10, 2017
Well Ms. QT is pulling fur and she had placed it on the floor of the cage , not using the nest box. Unfortunately she had not even padded the floor with hay. I saw this when I woke up and checked her via one of my security monitors this morning. So down I trekked to the barn to put it all in the nestbox. I am watching her now via the monitor and hopefully she will get in the nestbox to have them. Silly girl... I will be watching closely, so hopefully we will have some healthy fat babies soon and not a repeat of Ms. Lexi's tragedy. What worries me is QT is also a 1st time mom. 1st timers do not always get it right and need a bit of help now and then. Pray for QT please and her babies to come.
February 9, 2017
It is with a sad heart that I blog today. My precious Lexi had an awful night last night. As soon as all the bunny pick up folks left I put all the babies back inside the bunny barn and Lexi had pulled fur , telling me she may give birth ( kindle) tonight. So I knew I was going to need to check on her quite a bit, (her 1st time). I decided to go inside and get a quick supper, because she seemed to be resting so far. When I came back down , probably only 30 minutes later, she had had 4 babies on the wire, not inside the lovely nest box she had prepared. I guess she was just not experienced enough and the labor pains just over came her and she did not get into the box. They were all dead. Many had bruising badly and I do believe she pulled on them a lot to get them out and they may have most likely died anyway. But even though the heat lamp was on her , being born on the wire plus the bruising killed them. So sad. I watched her for hours later off n on via my indoor security cam and I checked on her coming out to see if she was ok or if she was going to have more, but no more and none this morning. At least she seems fine herself. So sad tho, the whole litter , gone. Poor baby girl.
February 6, 2017
Had 2 wonderful days of Bunny Pick up and now several buns are in wonderful new homes with 100% attention undivided. I am pleased that so many loving folks are taking them home and loving them the way I do. Another bunny day this weekend!
February 4, 2017
Well today and tomorrow are bunny pick up days for several folks. There will be several buns with wonderful new families that have been excitedly awaiting these days. I have spoken to them all and they have assured me that the babies are going to be very spoiled and loved. So I have mixed feelings.... of joy and sadness. I will truly miss these sweeties, but at the same time I am thrilled that someone else will be totally loving and adoring them and spoiling them even more.
February 3, 2017
Yesterday the babies got to play in the big 10' x 10' lot and they had a blast. They were in there more than half the day and so tired when they got back home from all that playing. All of them ate like crazy ( even though they had pellets, hay and oats out with them). Guess there is nothing like being home to make you hungry. Then they were all stretched out for naps. ( Just like human children, play hard -sleep hard)
February 1, 2017
It was nice out yesterday and the bunnies really enjoyed having those dark tarps up off their pen to enjoy the sunshine. Hopefully this good weather will be here today too. This weekend is Bunny Pick Up Day for several of our babies. They all have wonderful homes they are going to and can't wait to meet their new families. I am sure it will be scary for them at first without their siblings sleeping next to them each day, but they will be loved and cared for well and I wish them each a long and happy life. I sure will miss them, but am happy they will be getting even more individual loving attention.
January 30, 2017
Well the weekend was "extremely" cold and windy. Couldn't get anything accomplished outside so I stayed indoors most of the time. Poor bunnies outside. The buns have had their pens and hutches covered for days now. I have had to peep under them and feed and water them for a few minutes and cover them back up. The wind is just awful and they are calling for this for the next few days. They are going to get so tired of seeing nothing but blue tarp , hahaha. But at least they are toasty with their individual heat lamps. They can all go downstairs if it gets too warm for them, but they have that option. However, I will tell you , the last few times I have uncovered them , they were almost all upstairs under their lamps. So I am glad that I provide them with comfort. Bless their wee hearts, I sure do love 'em!

Last night QT was having a fit in want of her nest box. So I obliged ( even tho it is 9 days too early) and gave her a box. As I was leaving for the night she was happily putting her nest together. For the last 2 days she has been jerking out every piece of her hay out of her hay feeder and throwing it all over the floor of the cage, so I figured I had better give her a box before she wastes all of my good hay. hahaha... we shall see what she has built this morning when I go out to feed and water. Some bunnies just love to be an "early bird" building their nest. Guess she is one of them.

Well the cold nights are back again. Yesterday evening I covered the outside hutches with tarps and turned their individual lights on to keep them toasty warm. Normally I would not cover them at only 32 degrees, but the wind was absolutely howling and bunnies are not very fond of wind. It was so bad here that my empty flower pots were flying around the yard and I had to go chasing them out from under our vehicles. Everywhere I went there were items that were on the ground that should not have been there. That wind caused me to feel way colder than it really was, despite the lovely sunshine. I am glad at least the buns should have been comfortable. They have upstairs and downstairs in their hutches, so if that lone light bulb gets too hot for them they can go downstairs to get away from it. Even the one bun that is in the 1 level pin in the back can go outside of his bedroom (where the bulb is at) and get to the other side of the 4 foot pen. I will turn them off at daylight.
January 25, 2017
Well another cage finished building. I think I have 2 more to build and I will be ready for those batch of babies on the horizon. I better be! Because all the madness begins in only 9 days with Siberia and Delilah's babies being the 1st of the Easter litters to be born. Siberia has her box in already and going to place Delilah's in today. Sweet Siberia did something so cute. Once she completed building her nest she placed her stuffed bear in the box to keep it comfy. Wasn't that cute?

I have been trying to prepare for the upcoming litters of Easter Babies. There are only 12 more days before they begin arriving. There will be 10 litters of newborns very , very soon. ( what was I thinking!!!) I did this at Christmas and nearly went mad, hahaha. That will be almost all my does either pregnant or nursing. I do have several that are too young to do either yet. (Jupiter, Indigo, Mocha, & Nugget) Any way we will have lots of "hoppin" going on at Wabbit Habitat in just under 2 weeks. I can't wait to see what pretty colors of babies will pop up. It is like a Christmas gift every time they arrive. I truly adore every bunny on this property! I sure hope it shows.

Today is going to be a busy day for me. My 92 yr old mom goes into the hospital to get her "throat stretched". She has done this before and it needs to be done again, because she is choking nearly every time she eats. Please, if you are a praying person, I would appreciate all the prayers and good thoughts focused on her this morning. I would appreciate it ... thank you in advance.
January 17, 2017
Well I just finished building 2 more indoor pens and bought 2 more yesterday. So now I have 3 more pens to put together and put urine guards in them. I am slowly replacing all the old pens that were inside with nice new stackables that I can move and stack as I please and take up less room than the old ones that needed shelving. I am using the older ones too though. I have re-furbished them with a thorough cleaning and paint job and building a "plastic walled" bedroom area for the outside buns that will live in them. Each bedroom will be surrounded in corrugated clear plastic and inside I will be placing a basket with shavings and a mat so the bun can relax without any wind getting to them. Each of the pens have their own heat lamp in the bedroom area and it is turned on when it reaches the lows of 35 degrees. I don't want any frostbite on my buns ears or toes. I also cover the top of the outside pen with the actual "bottom pan" that it used to use indoors. This keeps rain and moisture off of them and their food pellets. In the winter time, they also have 2 tarps covering them. These few pens line the back part of the Nursery Barn and are protected further from the elements by the building and trees. The space under the barn that could cause an uncomfortable breeze under their poor wee feet is blocked off by other wide flat pans so they are pretty protected even though they are in a pen outdoor.
January 15, 2017
We have been having very nice weather outside and I have had the chance to do some much needed cleaning for my outside bunny cages. Bless their hearts it is hard to get to the when it is so cold you can't feel your hands in the 20 minutes you were outside. I am so thankful for this better weather right now and I know the bunnies are enjoying being able to see without a huge blue tarp over their hutch.
January 11, 2017
Finally the snow is beginning to melt! Only thing is, now we will live in a mud hole for a while until it dries up some. I will be glad to see it gone. It is pretty, but it can be both a hazard for falls and so dang cold. I will be glad to be able to open up my hutches again and get the tarps down for a while.
January 8, 2017
Our final count on inches of snow was around 6 inches with drifts up to 8" or so. All the bunnies are nestled in their hutches all dry and warm under their very own Heat Lamps. So you won't see any "snow bunnies" here at Wabbit Habitat. I keep them inside in these very raw temperatures. Last night we had 11 degrees out there. A bunny's ears could freeze off and toes could get frostbite in that type of weather. If you own a bunny , please bring it inside tonight or at the very least hang it a heat lamp with a high wattage bulb and cover their hutch up with a heavy tarp to keep the heat inside for them. It is going down into the single digits tonight and could kill them.
Well , it seems we really got some snow last night as we slept. From the house it looks like what they preditcted, 4 to 6 inches. Our concrete picnic table is just outside the kitchen and it lays perfectly on the tables and seats and you can tell about how deep it is.. just a guess though. I will go out to the barn at daylight and take pics on the way there. Nothing like the beauty of the sunshine glistening on the snow... that is if it will be shining, it may be overcast. I am so excited because it looks like Ebony may be going to have her babies very soon. Yesterday she had some hair pulled in her nest box and I can't wait to see what is going on out there today. According to count, she has 1 more day, but sometimes they go a day earlier. I have it in the 70's out there for her delivery and will put a small heat lamp on the top of her pen later today, just as a precaution in case the heat would dip even more. Keep tuned in, tomorrow morning I will tell you what I found in the nestbox if she got pregnant on her 1st day of mating, if not it may be the next day.
January 5, 2017
Well, unfortunately I have found that one of my baby bunnies, Lover Boy is blind in one eye. Not sure if he was born that way or if it happened due to an infection that was caused by one of his litter mates scratching his eyeball right around the time they should have been opening. These babies always lay on top of one another despite the fact that it is nearly 70 degrees in the barn. I treated the infection with antibiotic eye drops for bunnies and it cleared up in about a week , but the poor little bun had a solid blue eye and is definitely blind in it. The good think is she does no know what is missing , because it all happened right at the time her eyes would have been opening up so she was essentially blind from birth. (Their eyes don't open for up to around 10 to 14 days) She is adorable , but that eye is a bit disturbing looking even for the best of us that have seen this before. Bless her wee little heart. She is so funny. She knows where everything is in her cage and she bounces around without a care in the world.
January 3, 2017
Well , yesterday was a very sad day for me. One of my does died with a broken back from mating. She was such a lovely young doe. She had had a few litters for us and this would have been her 2nd litter. Her name was Willow. She was a pretty Chestnut with gorgeous soft fur and so sweet. I will miss her so very much. She always had large litters and was such a wonderful bunny mom. Always coming to the cage with a kiss for me (mommy) and a long petting. It is so sad when they have to be buried, but in my heart of hearts I do believe she is romping in Heaven now with Jesus. This is a very rare happening, but it does happen once in a while.
January 1, 2017
Well, I am starting out the New Year with a blog. Can you believe it? hahaha. Anyway, not a bunch happening right now at Wabbit Habitat. Just loving on all the wee babies for Valentine's Day Holiday and awaiting 2 more litters to be born within this week and next from Ebony and Snow. Today begins the breeding for Easter babies and Willow & Patches just began that for us. Several litters a week are planned to be bred for this Easter, adding up to around 10 litters if they all "take". It will be Christmas madness all over again, haha. Fun but busy, very busy. Of course just about the time these will be born the Valentine's babies will be leaving and the other 2 litters will be half way grown to their 8 weeks of age and be preparing to go home. After Easter babies things will calm down to a mere 2 to 3 litters a month deal and I will get my sanity back. Happy New Year to you all and may this year be even better than 2016 was to you in health and happiness.
December 31, 2016
Well I guess this is the last entry of the year 2016. Tomorrow will begin our new year! Yoo Hoo! I do hope each of you have a very safe and happy New Year's celebrations and a happy and healthy new year to follow. As for us, we will probably bring the new year in right here at Wabbit Habitat. I know, I know, but we just are not "party people". I enjoy a good party , but I am afraid my hubby is a bit more of a home body. So we will bring the new year in with t he bunnies, hahaha.
December 28, 2016
Yeah, I know, am getting bad at this blogging thing. I know it should be daily. Been so very busy lately with Christmas then after Christmas sales. Taking mom to the dr here or there and then my hubby to the dr. and I even had to go last week. So we have all seen our share of drs. Hope that is the last for a spell. Seems we are all on the "mend" now. Hopefully 2017 will see us much more healthy than 2016 did. I have been very lucky. That was the 1st time I had really been bad sick this whole year.
Any way, the buns from Christmas are all almost gone. Just one wee little bun left awaiting his owner to come pick him up. He is so lonely, you can sure tell without his littermates piling on him or visa versa. He will sit in that big ole pen and turn his back to me. I think he feels I am punishing him by taking his buds away. Poor fella, his family cannot come quick enough for him in his eyes. He thinks he has been abandoned. I pick him up and hold him, but once I put him back inside it is back to giving me the "cold bunny shoulder" ... poor baby. He has till this Thursday and then they will come get him. Hang in there little buddy. Course he isn't so "little" any more.... he is now about 3 months old.
December 19, 2016
Well Christmas is just days away folks. Hope you all are ready for it. Almost all of the Christmas babies have left for their new homes, only a few are left awaiting their pick up days closer in to the Big Day. We just had our last litter of Valentine's Holiday babies born yesterday evening. For some reason , several of my does did "not" get pregnant this time. I am very disappointed, but at least we now have 13 babies waiting on the "big lover's day" to go out for you all. They are not so cute and mostly naked of fur so far, so don't get your hopes up on "cuteness" just yet. The first 2 litters have now grown fur, and are beginning to look more "bunny-like" and less rat with no tail like. hahaha. Poor babies, born blind , deaf and naked. They get their sight at around 10 days and open their eyes just a bit, but as far as eye color, it is hard to tell for about a week or so after that because they keep their eyes all squished half closed and if you bring them under a light they snap shut like a tigers jaws. Their hearing comes in around that time also. Fur starts up around day 2 or 3 and it only begins as "peach fuzz" and thickens and gets longer day by day. Around week 2 to 3 they begin to look more like a bunny and actually hop around. They can actually crawl shortly after their birth, but do not have the sense to crawl away from too much heat or too much cold. That comes much later. Just watch my "available bunnies " page and I should have some new photos up around each Monday night or Tuesday morning.
December 15, 2016
Well several things have happened over the last few days.... First, Peaches , evidently did NOT get pregnant, so one litter is gone. Then, Echo ( first time mom) lost all her babies. The first one was HUGE and it blocked the way for the others, causing them all to die and be born a day or two late. So now 2 litters down. Doesn't look like we will be having a lot of Valentine's babies after all. We still have a few more waiting... but it does not look promising. Lexi has had NO interest in making a nest box , so I am guessing she also is NOT pregnant. Now, Mirage and Venus have created a nest behind the nestbox, so perhaps they will have a few babies, we hope. Time will tell.
December 11, 2016
Bunny Pick Up Day went off just fine yesterday and 8 of our Christmas babies are safely tucked away in their new Forever Family's care. I had such a wonderful day yesterday meeting all the nice people and seeing the smiling faces of the new bunny parents! I am so tickled it sounded like all the babies were going to be kept inside at least until spring, because we are having such very bitter weather right now. I can hardly wait to begin to receive pictures of the babies in their new homes. Some folks keep in contact with me and I have found some really good friends through my bunnies. I was so excited to see the glowing "reviews" on my Wabbit Habitat facebook page too. So happy that I can make so many folks happy and excited and give so many bunnies brand new happy lives.
December 8, 2016
Well the 1st litter was born, but it wasn't QT's ... it was Gypsy's ... this time she is doing better with her babies it seems so far. I have to go out this morning to see that she has fed them, please ,God, I hope she has. She made a lovely nest with lots of fur pulled and they are in a corner instead of the nest box where she kept Pooping in... ugh... she is new at this so I forgive her. Perhaps time number 3 will be perfect and she will get it "down pat". I had to cover the whole bottom of her cage with cardboard then with shavings and then with hay so she would not put them on the wire this time. The heat is on 72 degrees and aimed close to them, since she is on a bottom cage. Had no more room on the top ones due to Christmas Babies. Oh well, this morning I do hope QT has delivered, and not a false pregnancy. I also have Peaches that will be due very soon! So who knows what I will find once I walk outside to the bunny nursery. Excited!!! It is like Christmas all the time here... hehehe!
December 6, 2016
I am on pins n needles with excitement of the upcoming babies. On the one hand I have 2 newbie moms right off at the start - on the other hand I can't wait to see what the new babies look like and am so hoping they will be born without any issues arising. One would think I had never been through this before. It just always makes me nervous a bit. I worry they won't have them in the box and I won't be down there to grab the baby up before it gets cold ( and it is 70 degrees in there) ... but they will still get cold and die on the wire. They must have each other's body heat to survive. Unless bunny mom just makes a fantastic nest like my Delilah always does and pads it so very well with her own fur. I worry a bunny mom , especially a newbie, won't be able to push out the first baby, (too big or head too large). This has happened and then it kills the rest of the babies... Unfortunately sometimes a day or so goes by and then the mom delivers a dead litter... so very , very sad. So just in case, if you all are entertaining the idea of doing what I do, it is in no way a "piece of cake" to have to bury 5 dead babies and console a mom bunny that has milk, but no babies. It is also hard to watch a mom pee on babies as if they are trash and then have to scurry to find another mom bun to take the babies and hope and pray she won't kill them for not being hers. (which has also happened in the past) Oh well, I really do love doing this, but there are many trials that come up. Now you know why I am nervous before an upcoming delivery.
December 4, 2016
Yesterday's Bunny Pick Up Day went off well. 6 babies are now in their "Forever Homes". I have several folks that have paid "holding fees" so I can keep their babies until a later date, closer to Christmas for "surprises" for their children. So they are still here waiting. Next weekend I have several more litters leaving and it will be this way for the next few weeks. My babies will be leaving making way for the new Valentine's babies that will begin being born in only 3 days. I will scarcely get the cage cleaned out before it will be occupied again. I do not like these "back to back" holidays. hahha... but it is what it is, I had better get used to it , because the "biggie" bunny holiday is Easter and breeding for it begins in January! Whew... I am tired just thinking about it. hahaha.
December 3, 2016
I am still not finished with the aforementioned Christmas decorating. Whew, I have a lot of decorations! I only have a few more outside ones to do, but haven't touched the inside nor put up a tree yet. I seem to be swamped this year with all the babies to care for and all the Christmas stuff to do. Perhaps soon I shall have my "head above water" so to speak, hahaha.
November 26, 2016
Well, yesterday was the big "switch over" from one Holiday to the next. I took down all of my Thanksgiving / Harvest orange items and put them in tubs to store away. Now today I will start placing Christmas items all around inside , outside and at the bunny area. Whew! Too much work added to all the other work, hahaha. But I love doing it. Can't wait to see the end results. Yesterday I did get just "started" on a few items. I got baby Jesus and Mary and Joseph out and plugged up and 1 deer and a Christmas tree outside. But , I did find out I have an issue with Joseph's light and my outdoor tree lights. Ugh, I hate when problems arise. Oh well, will deal with them today, it was getting dark when I set them up last night.
On the plus side ( different subject here) My first doe decided she wanted to make a nest last night so I got her a nest box out and gave her some hay. This is QT's first time, so I am always worried things may go wrong. Pray for my baby, QT, to have an easy delivery, please. She has 11 more days to go before the "big day" but she is preparing... maybe she will be a good mom. Her babies will be Valentine's Day Holiday babies.
November 21, 2016
Yesterday my husband and I headed to SC to pick up a new baby girl from Deborah's Hollands Rabbitry in Woodruff, SC. We "traded" bunnies... she received a blue eyed white from me and I got a frosted from her. I named her Jupiter and she is adorable. We are keeping her inside until this cold spell calms down. Then she will be able to join the others in her new home. Being a doe, she will most likely go into my barn one day with a new family. That is months from now , though she is a whopper for an 8 week old baby girl. Healthy and chewing right now on a paper towel roll here beside of me... loves to tear them up. She already ate all the hay I had packed in it. Her picture is above.
November 16, 2016
Well the crisp cool mornings are upon us it seems. I have moved the outside bunnies' feeding time up to a bit later so my hands don't get so very cold cutting the greens. Also it helps them to keep their tarps over them until it warms up a bit outside. ( at least if I were a bunny I would want that ) Beginning to wean the first of the Christmas litters. So hard to believe that some of them are already 6 weeks old and will be going home in only 2 weeks. Wow , time flies when you are having fun hugging these sweet wee babes. I will sure miss them! They are so funny to watch. Now that they are 6 weeks old those 2 litters can go outside to play and also in the indoor playpens. Sometimes moms do not do well taking them back when they go outside and come back in smelling a bit different. This way I do not have to worry, because mom is now separate from them. Prepare to see cute pics of babies at play on the bottom of the "available bunnies" page , soon.
November 10, 2016
All going fine at the moment on the "home front" of Wabbit Habitat. Babies are settling in to existence with moms and feeding habits. In just a few short days it seems I will be weaning the oldest ones from mom already. Time sure flies. But if you think about it... December 3rd (first Home Date) is not very far away at all. I have already begun to breed for Valentine's Day Holiday. These babies that are "coming into existence" as we speak will be born in December and of course have Home Dates from the 4th of February on up to Valentine's Day the 14th. But even before they go home to their forever families, we will have moms that will be having babies for Easter.... time really flies it seems.
November 6, 2016
All is quiet on the Wabbit Habitat home front today so far. Yesterday we had a very nice Bunny Pick Up Day for the 2 sweet ladies that came to get their babies for their families. That will be 2 rotten bunnies I am sure. I have already seen quite a few photos of the bunny that went to Penny. He looks like he is already settling in very well. I sure hope the other one made it to Virginia ok, think I will text her sometime today to see how she is doing. It was a 2 1/2 hour drive from what they told me. Still, for a bunny I am sure it feels like a lifetime.
November 4, 2016
Well 3 times a day I have been taking the foster mom's real babies to her and she had been feeding them... but yesterday she only fed them at breakfast. I am terrified to "leave" them with her... in fear that she may do what she did to her foster babies to them. But this feeding thing may not work... I just hope she isn't "quitting" on me and going to reject her own babies now. They are far too old for another bunny mom to accept them. But probably too young to make it on their own. Guess we will see how mom "hannibal the cannibal" bun will accept them this morning , once the day light begins. I just hope she starts to feed them again. I don't dare "leave them" unsupervised with her... it terrifies me.
November 2, 2016
I am absolutely devastated! Yesterday morning I walked out to find that the foster mom doe that was taking care of Gypsy's 4 babies had eaten 2 of them.... She has taken care of them for a full week and NOW all of a sudden hates them? She had thrown 2 out of the nest box and eaten all but the head of the other 2. I just so wanted to strangle that bunny for doing such a cruel thing to those babies!!! Her own babies were untouched. But now, because of this occurrence I am only going to let her have her babies to feed them the 2 to 3 times a day. I have them somewhere safe and I will watch her while she feeds them so she won't feed ON them. ugh... I am afraid I will have to sell her as a "pet only" doe with no pedigree so she won't be bred again. I cannot understand why she waited so very long to act out on them. The 2 she had thrown out of the box are now dead also. They had gotten too cold or either she abused them stomping on them. I just don't understand this, she has always been a wonderful mother. So saddened and shocked at the same time... will never be able to look at her the same way. This has really put me in a "down" mood.
October 30, 2016
Well Gypsy's litter was our last "Christmas" litter to be born and now the "hotel Wabbit Habitat" is FULL ! We now have 25 more babies to be sold or deposited on and I do hope that will be enough to last us until Christmas. Most folks, like myself, have not even thought about Christmas presents yet. So I fell when November hits and Thanksgiving is just around the corner folks will begin to trickle in even faster for those Gifts for their children, their wife and even their hubby or mom n dad. Last year I did not have nearly enough babies. I ran out before Thanksgiving even got here. Hopefully that won't be the case this year. Although, I must say they do seem to be going fairly fast this early into it. Have sold 16 so far and have 25 more to last until closer to Christmas.
October 26, 2016
Last night Gypsy had her very first litter. Most all my bunnies seem to know what they are doing, but this 1st time mom has so far been VERY confused. 1st off she did not build a nest at all... I had placed one in her box and she began to pee n poo in it. Needless to say I cleaned it out a day ago and of course she did it again yesterday morning. So I just figured she was NOT pregnant, although she looked as if she had gained some weight. So to my total surprise I came home from a friend's house yesterday evening and scattered all around in the bottom of the cage on the wire were 5 sweet cold babies. ( the folks in the "bunny world" always say if it isn't warm and dead then it is not dead) So I grabbed them all up in a nearby towel and ran to the house. I stuffed babies, towel and all inside of the heating pad and turned it on high and covered them up with it too. In just a few minutes I checked them and they were all toasty and wiggling like crazy, all but 1. We did lose 1 wee bunny soul tonight to Jesus up in Heaven, I am sure he will love it as I would have. But at least we have 4 to put back in a new clean nest box. So down to the barn I trotted with the remaining 4 babies. I sat them in front of the barn heater while I cleaned out her nestbox and replaced all the contents with fresh clean shavings and straw. Tried to pull a bit of her fur to make it softer, but did not get very far, she was not having that! She is supposed to do this herself. I just hope she figures out in the next few hours that she is supposed to feed these babies too. We shall see... otherwise I am going to have to move them to Delilah's box and have her feed 2 families. ugh- updates soon.
October 15, 2016
I can hardly wait! So many new litters to be born in the next 10 days.... Sugar is due this weekend and was re-adjusting her nest box last night in preparation. She may have had them last night. I am so excited to see that she is doing well with hopefully a nest exploded with fur and wee squeaking babies inside the box. This is her 1st time so I am a bit nervous. I can imagine how she is feeling. I know she has been a bit "jumpy" of late due to her condition. Bless her little heart. I will be making a trek out to the bunny building in just a few. If they are born I will bring the pictures back to put online. If not then we shall just wait for Mother Nature and Sugar.
October 14, 2016
Still working on cages. Seems like it is taking it Forever for me to finish up with this. It takes roughly 2 hours to finish building one then I have to make the customized urine guards. They seem to be working lots better than the ones that I had bought from the store before. Those things would leak so very badly and pee would be in my floor of the barn. Thank goodness my flooring is vinyl linoleum. Easy to mop up, but still, ugh the smell that would cause. If I can keep the pee inside the cage pan where the PDZ neutralizes the ammonia and the wood pellets suck up the liquid it works a bunch better and the smell is pretty much gone! Painted my 1st old cage yesterday and now I need to figure out how to create a cool tunnel house inside so the bunny will be cozy this winter. I am going to use that heavy duty plastic that I am using for the urine guards to make a round top tunnel in each pen with a plastic bottom that can be easily wiped clean. But the neat thing is they will be able to go into the hole I leave for a door in the front, and cuddle up into about a foot of hay to keep warm and dry. Of course each pen (being outside and all) will also have the pan that was used underneath as its top now... just have to punch some holes in them to zip tie them to the pen top so they won't blow off. These pens will be for my "backstreet boys". The few fellas that will be living behind my bunny barn. They will love these almost 4 foot long pens.
October 8, 2016
Have only about 4 more cages to finish on the inside ones and then have to re-furbish the old ones for outside use later. Can't wait to complete this. My living room has a table put up in it temporarily building the cages.. hahaha, no room for entertaining unless you promise to help build a cage.
On the bright side... the first 2 litters of the Christmas bunnies have arrived and all seem to be healthy.
October 2, 2016
Yesterday I had a very gracious past bunny owner of a Wabbit Habitat bunny give me 2 large cages , various other items and potties also. All pretty much new. Completely for FREE. I want to personally thank Heather Hayes for her very generous gift to Wabbit Habitat. I very much appreciate it and will definitely put them to good use. She has renamed her cute bunny Rigsby. She liked my Rigsby's name and wanted to use it. Such an honor. So glad Rigsby has a namesake out there. I am also glad that her bunny pleases her and her lovely family by being such a good bunny. She informed me that he is potty trained and very rarely makes any mistakes. She also mentioned that he is so laid back and loves to be held and cuddled. I am glad that Wabbit Habitat bunnies give so much pleasure to folks. It makes me happy to see the enjoyment on their faces and know the bunny is having the time of their life.
September 29, 2016
Just finished Pen #5 and beginning #6 today. Wow this is sure slow! But in the end will be worth it. After this pen today, I will begin building 3 more that I bought to replace the older ones and then placing customized urine guards in them. Only 6 more days and I will have our Christmas babies beginning to arrive. Hard to believe and it isn't even Halloween yet. But if you really figure it out... it takes 31 days for a bunny to kindle a litter , then 8 weeks for that kit to be old enough legally in NC to leave its parents. So , yes, we in the bunny business have to start way back in September to breed for Christmas. Many folks don't think about the fact that we have to plan so very far ahead.
September 21, 2016
Well I am on my way. I am on pen #4 re-painting & re-newing the urine guards. I posted pics on the "available bunnies" page at the bottom in "What's Happening at Wabbit Habitat Today" , if you want to see my progress. I now have 5 pens standing in my back yard ready for the wash down process and the removal of the old urine guards. Then I will sit them on huge pieces of cardboard to put several layers of paint on them. Letting them dry between each layer in the hot sun. In the mean time, I will be assembling 3 more pens inside my house and building new urine guards to customize them to fit the way I want them to fit. So many of the "store bought" ones leak and then I have a mess to clean up, so I decided I can do it better myself. I build them out of clear plastic roofing. Sturdy, yet easy enough to cut to the shape I need. Then I wire them to each pen, placing corner pieces in also to shoot back the urine that comes between the corner cracks where they connect. The store bought ones do not have those pieces and so the urine gets through and onto the floor...ew! Bunnies seem to inevitably want to use the corners to pee in. hahaha. I am 'retiring' the oblong pens to the outside behind my bunny barn for extra cages for boys or for when I need a cage for a bun that needs their cage cleaned.
September 21, 2016
In the process of systematically removing older pens and taking them out to re-paint them. Can't wait till I complete this task. Seems it takes no time for them to start rusting. They just don't make things like they used to. I finished 3 yesterday. I am making new urine guards for them. The metal ones I had made were not "bent in" enough and on occasion we had a pee pee spill it seemed..ugh, messy. But this time with the new guards, I hope that won't happen. Will share pics as soon as they are completed and installed. Have some online on the Wabbit Habitat on Facebook if you are interested in seeing my progress.

Yesterday we had a wonderful time taking our bunny Echo to the Lincoln County Apple Festival. She was a really BIG hit and got so very much attentions. She was not a big fan of some of the noises, such as a race car that revved up and when they talked on the loud speaker. I could feel her tense up, but she never once tried to jump down, although I did have her harness on for her safety. So many folks wanted to pet her and everyone loved her.

Getting ready to change the decor around here to "fall" colors. I have my tubs of decorations and today I will start a bit at a time changing over from our spring/summer to Fall. Kind of sad to see the summer begin to disappear, but I and especially the outside bunnies will enjoy the cooler mornings and afternoons. It will soon be a welcome relief to put up the outdoor fans, which will no longer be needed.

Well it did not work placing Snow's single baby into the group with Zetta's wee ones. Snow's singleton is huge in comparison, and possibly caused the death of Webster. He was very small to begin with and Merlin ( Snow's baby) was so big he hogged all the milk. So I took Merlin out and am feeding him with a dropper and milk replacer. This bunny is so strong, I do believe he will survive and thrive. But his presence was putting the whole litter at risk. And the few days he was away from his real mom made her milk begin to dry up and she probably would not have him back anyway. He would have gotten "splay leg" being the only baby and getting way too fat to walk, so I suppose this is my only alternative. He seems to be eating wonderfully. I don't know why I am calling Merlin a He, I am just 1st guessing but Merlin looks like a girl. Still way too early to make an "educated" guess. Will keep ya'll updated!
September 8, 2016
So excited about Zetta's first litter being born. They are so very adorable. I worry a bit about introducing Snow's single baby into her group since he is so very black in color. I do hope she accepts him fine, she is such a very sweet bunny girl. I will do the usual thing with putting vanilla scent under her nose and on the babies so they will all smell alike... but please put in a prayer that she accepts Merlin. It is not good for a bunny to raise 1 single baby, they end up feeding them too much and they can get splay leg and lots of other health issues. Today we are going to try this and I will keep an eye on bunny mom, Zetta, to be sure she won't hurt the little fella. Poor Merlin, having to switch mama's. I am sure he will be fine... he is already a few days older than Zetta's babies. We will see what happens.

We have been really busy this week. We have an old building here with a shed attached and my husband and myself have been tackling the job of trying to clean it out and re-organize it. Wow, we knew we had our work cut out for us, but whew! Oh well, not a lot to say in the "bunny world" right now. Except Snow really surprised me by having a single baby and she had buried it in the straw and not put any fur at all with the baby. Yesterday finally she decided to pull fur and that is when I started to look through the straw and saw a baby already with fur. At least a day if not 2 days old. Little booger, wow, such a surprise and after I had announced that she had not had any. Hahaha, she is making me out to be a liar. This is a first for her, to not pull fur till days afterwards. I will have to make a note of that to watch her more closely next time.

I am replacing some of my older cages with newer stackers a few at a time. These new cages have deeper pans that help the bunnies keep their "poo n pee" in the pan. The older cages I had were very shallow pans and I am working myself to death having to empty them so very often. Especially if there is a litter of babies and mama in the pen. These new pens are much deeper and allow them more room but take up less floor space because they do not have to be on a huge long shelf, they stack one up on the other. It will make the place look a lot neater too. This will take quite some time, but will be very helpful and give us more "floor space" so I can set up the inside runs and stretch them out more for them to run and have fun in an even larger space. I have also re-painted the one huge long work table in the barn. Around the sink area I have covered it with plastic sticky back sheeting to protect the area from water when I use the sink. Will post pics soon.
Yesterday was rather "eventful". Lots of folks going really slow on our road because of a traffic block down the road from our home. A small 3 yr old little girl went missing yesterday ( according to the news). She lived about 6 or so houses away from us. Her mom's boyfriend fell asleep on the couch, they say, while tending to Jordyn and another child. Says he woke up , back door was open and the little girl was gone , but the other child still there. There were all sorts of helicopters, cop cars, & emergency vehicles , even people on foot scouring the neighborhood for that wee little tot. Haven't checked the news this morning yet. I sure hope they found her and she is ok. Wow, if it would have been me I would have been out of my mind, that poor mother.... If you are a praying person, please enter a prayer for her and the little girl. I know I have. Bless her heart.

Just sold a whole truck load of bunny poo to a guy to fertilize his "organic" farm. Finally someone else has realized how very good bunny poo is for your garden. He has put in another order for this coming October. Guess I will pick out a place to put it in my garden until then... My garden and my bunny's garden
(where their hay and daily grass grows) is entirely made up of ONLY bunny poo... talk about some nice rich soil! This type of fertilizer is entirely Nitrogen. But it won't burn your plants like the cow manure can, you can place bunny poo right up against them and not worry one bit. Wonderful stuff. If you ever want any I sell it by the bag full for around $10 a bag. The bags are my hay bags that I buy for my baby bunnies. Pretty big bag too. Just call or text me at 704-742-1326 a bit ahead of time so I can collect it for you. I get it "fresh" hahaha.
Aug. 9, 2016
Here I am forgetting to "blog" again... sorry folks. Well it is still very hot, but at least we are getting rain again. Seems like daily , usually several times a day. I feel like I am in the tropics, so do the bunnies. But I need to quit complaining , the temps during the days has been staying in the 80's thank goodness , for the outside bunnies' sake. I was real worried about those hi temps before. Maybe it will stay cooler like this a while, I hope. Been busy building more cages. Stackers to be precise. Have 2 started. Hopefully will finish today and then build the urine guards for them. I make my own. Oh well, enough for today, other things to do. See you soon.
July 31, 2016
Well I cannot say I am very sorry that July is leaving us... just wish it would take the extreme hot dry weather with it. But I am sure that won't happen, because August is right on its heels bringing its own miserable heat, just hope it brings showers with it too. The fans don't seem to do a lot for the outside buns, just moving hot air...but I guess they help. The ice water I am sure is very welcome in the noon day heat too. Am trying to come up with some tiles that I can cool down in an outside refrigerator we have and then place in their pens with them.. if they will just use them. I tried frozen water bottles and a few of them run from them... hahaha. One bun, Alpine loves his frozen bottle so much he has a hole in it every morning and it is empty. So for a few the ice bottle works. I worry about the rest. Pray for a bit cooler weather.
July 24, 2016
This heat is horrible on all my outside babies... wish I had room in the bunny barn for them all, but I don't it is too small. So I give them ice daily and a fan all day long. I watch them and if one looks like they are not handling it too well I also give frozen water bottles so they can lay beside of them and lick them and cool off. Bless their hearts... and no rain for a few days either, this sucks! Maybe today we will get rain , but a break in the heat they say we won't get , for today it is supposed to have the heat index around 105 degrees. Ugh.... Pray for all outside animals folks.
July 17, 2016
I am back again! Almost done at my son's house, now to catch up around here. Seems I get behind one place or the other all the time lately. There are just not enough hours in a day. Emptied pans yesterday and trying to gather up a whole batch of bunny poo for an "organic foods" producer. Probably won't have as much as he wants, since he is only giving me about 5 days to do this. Hey, my bunnies can only poop so much, hahaha. In case you all did not realize it , bunny poo is one of the absolute BEST fertilizers you can get!!! It won't "burn" your plants and you can place it right up against them. It is pure NITROGEN at its best! It really does not "stink" when dried out and comes in cute little balls. So when you buy a bunny from me, you also get wonderful fertilizer for your plants! A 2 in 1 package deal! hahaha.
July 13, 2016
I am so far behind on "blogging". Please forgive me folks. Been so very busy. My son just moved back from Washington State University and we are getting him "settled" in his new home. Lots of painting, cleaning, building beds, etc. Things are beginning to calm down, but still it is summer and there are lots more things for me to do then... garden, pool cleaning, even the bunny's garden needs tending, not to mention all the flowerbeds. His place is looking great, but now mine needs attention, hahaha. That is the way it goes. I just placed another round of hay on the hay rack, but actually under the shed instead. The hay rack got really messed up ... the metal that holds up the rack got really twisted and bent in the last super storm we had, so I just laid the 2 smaller parts up on a cart under the shed. This will keep it dry , but will take longer to dry, since the sun cannot reach it. But at least the afternoon rains won't ruin it either. All the bunny adults just love their home grown hay. It smells so much better and is evidently more tasty. It gets gown very quickly. hahaha
July 1, 2016
Well today is another new month. Hope this month is better than last month. I injured my eye at the first of the week and have been dealing with it for at least 5 days now. Blurry vision, pain, watering and such. Going to see the eye dr. on a daily basis. Wow, can't afford much more of this! Thank God for Insurance, but the co-pays are killing me. I go again today, perhaps it will be the end of this , mostly. I am sure healing will take a bit of time. Mostly why I have not been on here. Reading and writing and anything involving seeing really has caused pain. But yesterday they put an eye contact (called it an eye bandage) on and that has taken away the pain. But today they take it off...ugh... hope pain won't come back. We shall "see", hopefully.
June 27, 2016
Well, Bunny Pick Up Day is now over and went very well. Had one lady and her hubby come with their children to place a deposit on 2 "future" babies , and then many folks to come and get their sweet bundles of fur to take home with them. All in all it went well, with only 1 person not coming, nor contacting me. I do hope she is ok ... there are so many wrecks now a days. Anyway, I am so glad the babies have some very fine families to love them and give them even more attention that I could. Most if not all of these were going inside to stay , at least for a while. It is so very hot out there lately, I am glad to hear about that since they have been mostly inside on these extremely hot days in the air conditioning. I do not keep it cold by far, but it is more comfortable than outside.
June 24, 2016
As of this morning, ALL of our babies are now "sold" , "on hold" or "sale pending". So if anyone out there is interested the upcoming "next litters" are posted online on the front page and you can see how many days you will have to wait to see new babies. I will , however , tell you that many of the upcoming litters already have "deposits" made to hold a certain baby for several folks. In fact, Venus' litter , the next one due , is probably SOLD OUT. Unless she has a massive large litter. Folks are wanting bunnies and I just simply don't have enough available at the moment it seems. Hoping that will all change once a few more of my girls get old enough to breed. I do apologize for those of you out there that simply want to come by and get a bunny. Until I have enough of them here it looks like that won't be possible. But you can place a "hold" on one of color of your choice by browsing my "Future Litters" page and seeing the parents that are about the color you want and once born they will be "on hold" already for you as the folks in Venus' litter have done. Just saying, there is always a possibility.
June 22, 2016
May have some rain today. We sure could use it! So very dry and hot, it would feel nice to have some moisture in the air and get a bit of relief from the heat. I am sure the bunnies think so too. They have been getting ice in their water and sometimes ice bottles to lay near, with fans going full speed all day. Poor babies, can't imagine how hot a fur coat would be , must be awful.
June 19, 2016
So glad Butterscotch had her babies with no problems so far. All 3 of them look healthy and fat. I posted a picture on our Home Page, but it is blurry. I will try to do a better job today and get a new one so you can see the little boogers. She is a wonderful bunny mom and usually has very pretty babies. I cannot wait to see the colors soon!
June 18, 2016
So excited... I thought for sure Butterscotch was "not" in the family way because I saw no "nesting" behavior yesterday on her due date, but it seems there was a fur "explosion" when I went out there a few minutes ago. She had so much fur all over the pen and in her nest , just everywhere. No babies yet, but it looks like she may indeed have a few on the way. I cannot wait to see the little boogers. So tickled... Pics as soon as they arrive! Gotta go, going down to the "nursery" to check again!
June 15, 2016
I have been so very busy since "Summer" has hit that I have not made the time to write in the blog. I do apologize. Lots of things going on... gardening, opening the pool, son came back from college, remodeling, taking care of Mom and of course my lovely bunnies. I am also in the process of writing a booklet to assist all the new bunny owners in the raising of their rabbit babies. It will go on sale hopefully as early as Late August, possibly sooner if things go well. I will have included in this booklet information that I have found over the years that may assist your bunny's health and welfare. Home remedies that I have used and that have worked for me. Ways to keep your baby healthy for a long life and hopefully out of veterinarian visits very often. Check ups are always good. ( I am NOT telling you to NOT take your bun for check ups or for emergencies) Any way I do hope that the information inside of it will be helpful. Well, gotta go feed my babies!
June 8, 2016
Yesterday I had a lovely family come over to place a deposit down on our last baby bunny, Sprint. While they were here my little Gizmo decided to give them a "show". It was his turn to play in the outside pen and he was very friendly , as is his style. Just right before they left though he decided to run from end to end of that pen proceeding to do binkies in the air all over the place. He got so carried away he could not control his front because his bottom was up in the air twisting around and he ran smack dab into the plastic tunnel that was in there. He had us all laughing our heads off. I do believe he was enjoying the audience as much as the audience was enjoying him.
June 6, 2016
I am working on a booklet that will become "available" for the public soon. It is entirely about Holland Lop rabbits and will be comprised of information found in many places. It will give a new bunny family the information they need to feel confident in how to take care of and to treat their bunny if the need arises. This booklet will be sold from my website and can be sent via mail. It will include "home remedies" to many ailments that have "cured" my bunnies in the past and may keep your bunny out of the vet's office and keep the expenses down on taking care of your rabbit. I am NOT condoning that you NEVER take your rabbit to the veterinarian , so do not think I am saying that. I am , however, trying to assist you in doing some care at home with this booklet's information and possibly keeping the vet visits to a minimum. There are times that a veterinarian are very much needed. And some folks just want to take their bun for a "well check up" and that is all fine and good. But if you are person that lives on a somewhat "tight budget" such as myself, or you have several rabbits and cannot afford a vet for a long term illness, this may be your ANSWER! I should have it completed in a very short few months, so be on the look out for it here on my website. Most likely on the Home Page I will advertise it. Going to work on my booklet now.
June 5, 2016
I realize this has "nothing" to do with bunnies whatsoever... but, my "baby" he is now 24 years old just arrived home last night from Washington State University. He drove for 4 days around 10 hours a day to get home. I am so very relieved he is back home , safe and well. I had a prayer circle of friends and family that helped me pray for his safe travels and it worked! He will be staying here at home for a bit and I am so excited to have him back after not seeing him for 2 years. I have sure missed him! He will always be my "baby" no matter how old he gets. I love you Adam!
June 4, 2016
This heat is hard on the outside bunnies. They have their fans on full blast, but still that humidity sure makes it miserable... perhaps it will rain soon.
June 2, 2016
Well I completed painting the hutches themselves and now I have to paint the wire where some paint ran down on it. Won't be able to do that for about a week due to the fact that I injured my back painting the hutches. Oh well, eventually I will complete them. I will post pics as soon as they are done. So excited to get the "Honeymoon Suites" re-modeled.
May 26, 2016
Been very busy this week. Re-painting the 2 largest hutches ( our honey moon hutches). I only have the base coat on one completed at the moment, but hope to get that one finished today ( if all goes well). Then perhaps tomorrow I can work on the 2nd one. They are going with Wabbit Habitat's original colors, Tan & Hunter Green, like my Nursery Barn. I think I will like that , I am hoping. The Stain on them was really beginning to look bad and I think paint will be so much easier to clean any bunny "markings" off. We shall see.
May 20, 2016
Rainy, wet weather. Poor buns, don't get to get out in the run on days like today and we have had several in a row. They seem to be getting "ansty" . They need to run and play! Sunshine where are you???
May 19, 2016
Happy to say that Delilah's extreme protectiveness has died down and I am now able to look into her nest box somewhat. She still "hovers" over my hand as I peek in most of the time. A treat sometimes buys me more time. Hahaha. Buns run on treats it seems. Last time I took a group photo there seemed to be 2 light colored buns in the group and yesterday when I photographed them there was only one... still 4 bunnies there, but not sure if there is a 5th one hiding out in that mound of hair she pulled... really it is at least a foot and a half tall.... goes way above the nest box top and bless her heart she has bald spots on her sides even... that bunny was going to give them a soft nest or else. And of all the things it is black as pitch just like she is and makes it hard to see the babies ... so I am wondering if one of the babies is still hiding somewhere in that mound... there may be a 5th one, or the light one could have turned pretty dark over night, which I feel is unlikely. I do not like to "mess" in her nest box feeling around for a bunny much , she is stressed easily the 1st week... we will find out soon enough.
May 16, 2016
Well , Delilah had her babies last night. Although she is very hormonal right now and not really happy with me looking to see how many or what color and to get a good picture. I may later take her out of the pen a few minutes so I can check on their health status and get a good pic for everyone, including for my own sake. She gets like this every time, but it usually dies down a bit after a few days go by. She is a great mom and will "adopt" any babies I give her, but she has her "testy" ways the first few days. She is the only one this way it seems in the whole barn.
May 15, 2016
Well , yesterday went off great at the Southern States in Dallas, NC. Wabbit Habitat had several bunnies there for show and we took names and numbers for the "waiting list". We had Scrabbles as our Adult , so folks could see how big they get all grown up. Mercedes and Dixie were our Adolescents that we kept 1 at a time sitting on the table with a harness on so folks could pet them. We switched them out so neither would get tired about half way through. We even took several of the 6 week old babies to let them play in the playpen as folks watched them. ( they could pet them through the wire , but not pick them up) We had them up there about 2 hours and then they came back home. Then me and my honey took Gizmo ( our broken tort ) to the Bessemer City Festival and walked around and passed out cards and let folks pet him. All in all we had a very busy day. Had a wonderful friend bring her bunny she bought from me almost 2 years ago in to see us and she has grown into such a lovely girl. BBop is the name we gave her when she was here and she kept it. That is one fiesty little bunny. She chases Kelley's dog around and takes her bone from her. That rotten little bun has her very own bedroom and she will defend it from the dog. Such a funny case. Bunnies can be so hilarious!

Wow, all I can say is "wow". You never know how important the Internet and phones are until they don't work. Our AT&T router quit on us and we had to wait for days to get the new one through UPS. Finally got it tonight , but now my printer can't see the pc's... ugh... more issues... but at least I have the Internet again. So I can update more often the site. Hope I did not lose a bunch of Wabbit Habitat "fans" by being "offline" a few days. Please forgive me. I tried desperately to update on my phone, but everything is so very tiny and so difficult to hit the right buttons. I just gave up. Glad I am back "online" and hopefully I can figure out the printer too, seems that the Geek Squad has had issues via online doing so. They want to charge me more money to come out even though we had bought a "plan" for it to be "free"... yeah, don't believe everything they tell you. That's for sure. Just my day to be up on the old "soap" box, hahaha, maybe tomorrow will be better.
May 4, 2016
Can't wait until the new litter is born. We breed 3 days in a row so her very 1st expected litter date is only 4 days from now, this Sunday, Mother's Day - May 8th. I always get so very excited to see the little ones arrive and see what pretty colors we get. Almost like Christmas each time. I am also very relieved when it all goes well and all are alive and mom bun has no issues.
May 1, 2016
The first litter finally got here and it was on her very 1st due date of April 29th. So Tundra had 5 cute healthy babies which I pray will all make it to adulthood. Sounds crazy to most of you but lots of things can happen to end their tiny little lives. I had 1 baby that fell out of the nest box one night into a water bowl that mom bunny just decided to nudge next to the box one night instead of where it was over a foot away. ( yes my pens are large 4 foot wide in fact) That baby just so happened to fall out of the side closest to the water bowl that mom had moved and she was drowned inside of that bowl when I came in the next morning, so sad. Sometimes they are "formed" wrong on the inside and just die for no apparent reason in the very first week. Once in a while a whole litter can arrive and they all are born dead. ( usually only if a the very first one born was excessively huge and got stuck holding the rest back from being kindled) Sometimes, unfortunately, a baby may last 4 weeks and then die with no outward signs as to what may have caused the death. Simple crazy things like a sudden noise outside can actually scare them to death. And the death may not happen instantly, sometimes it may be a few days. So it really is a miracle that most of them make it to adulthood , when you think about all the obstacles in their way to get there. I just hope and pray that all these babies that are being born will actually make it into adulthood. Now we are awaiting Snow's birth... hope it happened last night.
April 27, 2016
Awaiting the births of the "upcoming" litters is like sitting on sandpaper... I just get so "ansty" because I so want the girls to have an easy time of it and nothing to go wrong. I just love my girls! We have 2 due "beginning" on Friday. I say "beginning" because all of mine are bred 3 days straight, and I have no way of knowing which day they actually got "pregnant" on. If they "took" on the very first day, then the 31st day of their pregnancy will be on Friday and they usually give birth "kindle" on that day, but if it was the 2nd or 3rd day then it may be Saturday or Sunday when they do so. 31 days is the normal amount of time to kindle, but it can go all the way up to 7 days late. So many things can go wrong too... They can just "look" pregnant and have a false pregnancy, all the way down to pulling hair and nesting behavior. Then the swelling goes down and they get disappointed , as do we. Or, they can kindle and lose the whole litter... something , who knows what can go terribly wrong. ( this is rare) Also , they can go late and have them all and be perfectly fine and sometimes what seems to be a perfectly healthy kit ( baby bunny) will die for no apparent reason.
( usually something internal was not formed correctly and takes a few days for this to happen) On occasion one or several can be born "dead" or she may end up having them on the wire where they literally freeze to death. ( even at 70 degrees) this can happen. A newborn must have the heat of its siblings bodies for the first wee while to keep warm enough. I have had a heat lamp on and this still happen... they need that nest to reflect back their own body heat. The wire is cold and cooler air flows through it not letting them stay warm. This is a rare occasion, usually if it is a "new" mom this happens more often. Most often, nothing like any of the above happens. But on very rare occasions a kit will die "out of the blue" weeks after it was born. Sometimes this is slow and sometimes quick. If it is slow and the bunny appears very "floppy" , they call it "floppy bunny syndrome". There are no "known" cures for this. On a rare occasion I have saved one or two. This entails staying up or getting up at night and all throughout the day every few hours feeding the baby through a dropper extremely strong Pedialyte , vitamin E and selenium, and Bounce Back. These are electrolytes that help strengthen them. This usually takes days before you see a difference. Then a week to see them "back to normal". Most often this results in no progress and the baby dies. Truly heart-wrenching when you stay up several nights in a row and throughout the day holding that baby , feeding them, wiping their wee little faces, and cleaning them up. Any way, it happens not very often, but it does happen. Sure wish they could find a cure or a reason. On the up side, looking forwards to seeing the new babies.
April 23, 2016
Yesterday was such an "uplifting" day and also sad. Most of my 2 litters went to new and loving homes and that is the "happy" part, but the sad part is saying good bye to all those cute fuzzy faces. I sure will miss seeing them at the cage door each morning and getting "licked" and loved , but I am sure they are making some very sweet people very happy right now and I sure hope they will be happy in their new homes. If you are ever interested in looking at the past buyers of Wabbit Habitat bunnies, all you need to do is to go to the "Past Owners" page and you will see lots of happy faces. I have a 1 more bunny going home today and the last one goes on May 1st.
April 19, 2016
I am so excited... I got my first batch of hay off of my new hay rack, the top of the bunny run and the smaller hay rack and it actually filled an empty bag of hay that I had lying around. I couldn't believe I got that much at one time. This is wonderful. Now the hay rack can begin "paying" for itself and then become profitable. In a sense it already is profitable... I will know exactly what is in my bunny's hay this way. I once found a pressed family of mice in a bag of Oxbow hay and I will not buy it again! Needless to say it did cause sickness in several of my bunnies and one actually died from it. I was so sad and the family was too of course. They got a new bunny from another litter, but it still is not the same. A loss , is a loss. Poor baby.
April 16, 2016
Yesterday I finished creating the new Hay rack for drying! I am so very excited to be able to make my own hay ( in a small way ). Meaning I did not just plant acres and acres of grass. But I did increase the bedding size for my hay by at least 3 times the size it was... now I hope to cover all of my summer hay needs all the way up to January possibly, hopefully I am not "reaching" too far with that statement. I just filled the rack up for the 1st time yesterday.. now I have the rack, the bunny run top and the single hay rack on top of my well house to dry hay with... woo hoo! Bunnies YOU are gonna LOVE this!

Bunnies, Bunnies, Bunnies!!! Soon in around 2 weeks we will have more baby bunnies... 2 litters expected! Can't wait to meet the new wee ones!! I will be taking photos of the 2 smallest litters today. You will not believe how very much they have grown in only 7 days. Eyes are open now and they can hear too. I sure hope they will be still for a few pictures. I am always excited on "picture day". I do hope ya'll love my crazy and fun backgrounds and props that I have with the buns. I sure enjoy coming up with new ones as often as I can. I give Hobby Lobby a great big "hoorah" , because a lot of my props come from there. They are such an inspiration! Check in this evening to see our newest pictures of our newest Wabbit Habitat gang.

Yesterday we worked hard on putting mulch all around the grounds here at Wabbit Habitat. We have done this for 2 days straight! 8 truckloads and only 2 people unloading ( me n my hubby). On the flip side, we now have all but 1 baby in our last litters sold. I did not even get around to advertising them. Wow, lucky this time.
April 9, 2016
The babies are growing like weeds and so excited to see fur begin to come in. Can't wait till their eyes open soon around day 10 which will be mid week next week. I also cannot believe that nearly all of them are already "on sale pending" or "on hold" and not even a week old yet. This has truly startled me. I have not even "advertised" them online on craigslist or hoobly yet. May not have to. There are only 3 babies left to be deposited on to hold them. Bunny Pick Up Day is in May. Seems like a world of time between now and then, but the time really flies as we all watch them grow up. I know I get so excited finding new props to pose them with and they do very well for their age usually. You will always have that one or two that refuse to be still long enough to get a good picture , but most of the time they turn out ok. I love taking photos of them!
April 4, 2016
Well I guess you all saw that Bonnie Blue did indeed have her babies yesterday morning. I knew she seemed to be very big and she had 8 little surprises waiting for me when I came out to feed her. Can't wait to see what colors they develop as their fur grows. It appears there may be several blue eyed whites though, not sure just yet. All seem to be doing just fine although some are smaller, hopefully they all will make it. Had the heat lamps on and off to the side a bit last night in case it got too cool for them , of course the heater was on too. I just looked on my monitoring surveillance system and it is 63 in the barn , but they have the heat lamps on them so probably almost 70 for them. As soon as the sun comes up I will open their curtains and turn off their heat lamps. I don't want them to get too very hot.
April 3, 2016
Can't wait to go out to the Bunny Building Nursery this morning. I am just dying to know if Bonnie Blue had her litter. She was bred for 3 days straight and so today is her very 1st due date. She could wait till the 6th of the month too, but she is very big and I just hope she goes today! So exciting , it is just like a Christmas gift! You just never know what you are going to get. She usually has a large litter, of around 7 or 8 , but who knows. I just hope what is has are all good size and no tiny ones that may not make it. So sad when you lose them. Pictures will be on here as soon as they are born.
March 31, 2016
Well the end of March is here and tomorrow dawns a brand new Month! Hopefully it will also bring a new batch of babies. Peaches 1st possible due date is tomorrow. I generally "breed" them for 3 days straight. (Doesn't always work though, because Tundra's did not 'take' last time.) I have learned, nature will do what it will do, and there just isn't anything you can do to change that. There will be "false pregnancies" ( just like Tundra had) , times they don't get pregnant at all and then there will be fertile times but still you lose a whole litter due to freak things happening ( like them NOT having them in the nest box and having them on the wire ) they will die nearly every time. And then the "lucky" times when the whole litter is born with absolutely NO deaths from no "runts" being born and all kits the same size , large and healthy. So I hope and pray for a "lucky time" this time with both Peaches and Bonnie Blue. If she 'Is' pregnant, this will be Peaches 1st time. She does not "look" fat and pregnant, so if she is there will only be 1 to 3 babies, I fear. It will be easier on her, but disappointing to all those on the "waiting list". I just hope it all goes ok with both my girls. You see , my 'human' children have gone and grown up on me and left home, so these bunnies ARE my kids and grand kids for that matter, hehehe. So they get an unending amount of love and attention, hugs and petting. Happy End of March , ya'll.
March 27, 2016
Happy Easter to everyone!!! Well , Bunny Pick up Day has not turned out the way I had planned, but we are trying our best to "appease" our customers. I am even letting one come 'today' on our Holiday to pick up her babies. She had a very long way to travel... California. We are all trying to have a nice restful holiday. As for me, I get to spend mine with my daughter. Bless his heart, her husband has to work. Must be hard being an Emergency Room Physician's Assistant, especially on the holidays. Well , I do hope everyone has a very happy and safe Easter Weekend!
March 24, 2016
So tickled I won! Well really my bunny won with her picture, but it is a closed group on Facebook called "Raising Holland Lops" . Anyway, they have a photo contest each month and they choose the pic with the most votes to win the honored spot on their main page. In honor of my month long win I am posting the winning photo above. I know it is no longer St. Paddy's day. But it was a cute pic.
March 22, 2016
Yesterday was picture day for all the buns... Usually I do the older ones on Monday and the babies on Wednesday, but decided to do them all the same day. Had plenty of sunshine so that helped. Most all of them did well and I did get some exciting different pictures of them for sure. I actually caught Ace in mid yawn... looks he is singing. One of them decided to stand up in the chair so I did get a few of that reaction too. All of the buns are so adorable and lots of them love to pose. But you always get that one or two that decide they won't do well for anything... taking 20 pics just to get 1 good one. hahaha. It happens.
March 21, 2016
Well the weekend is over and the 1st Easter Litter Bunny Pick Up Day has come and gone. 5 Adorable bundles of fur left us and we miss them, but they went to such loving and sweet people that I don't feel bad at all. I am sure these babies are going to get great care and more love than they can handle. All of the folks I was blessed to meet seemed so very sweet and kind and so much in love with our bunnies. I received a wonderful "review" on my Facebook site from a very sweet lady, Jennifer Jackson all the way from Fayetteville, NC and she brought her 3 lovely girls to get a bunny each. They tickled me to see such love and excitement in all of their eyes. I am sure those bunnies will be so loved and "spoiled rotten" already. I just LOVE Bunny Pick Up Days to feel the love for our bunnies in the air! It makes my day and all the hard work of cleaning up after the buns, feeding and watering through cold and heat very worthwhile.
March 17, 2016
Happy St. Patrick's Day to all of my readers! Hope you have a wonderfully "green" day today! As for me , I am spending the morning moving all of my " Mommy's to be" into the upper cages so I can check on them easier and it will be warmer for the new babies. I will be cutting toe nails this week too, so that the new babies won't get cut by mom's toe nails once they get here. Can't wait to see what new wonderful colors we will get! So excited, only 7 more days until the first ones are born!
March 14, 2016
Changing the seasons this week at Wabbit Habitat. After Thursday we will be decorating for Easter! I can't wait to meet all of the new "Bunny Mom's n Dad's" this weekend and next weekend. They will be coming to pick up their sweet babies and my babies will be getting a new home. I am sure they will love them and care for them like I have these past 8 weeks. I will surely miss them all, but will be so happy to see the happy faces of their new families when they get to take them home and fall in love with them as I have. I am so blessed to be able to be their care-taker for the first 8 weeks of their life. They are such a joy to be around and play with and love on. They make me smile so many times a day. I am sure they are going to "entertain" their new families the way they have "entertained" me with their cute little antics and funny little jumps of joy (binkies) in the air. They are so very adorable.
March 10, 2016
I know this has nothing to do with bunnies, but I did have a very fun afternoon yesterday with my 91 year old mom, Pat. I surprised her and came to her apartment ( yes she still lives out on her own, amazing!) and "kidnapped" her and we went to the park to swing and sit and talk. Then we went for some ice cream and back to her apartment to color in our individual adult coloring books. She so amazes me that at 91 years old she keeps herself very busy. Crocheting hats and scarves for folks. Painting on canvas in acrylics. Doing multiple word search books and reads all the time. Not long ago I bought her one of those adult coloring books with pretty patterns and then a few weeks ago I surprised her with a huge container of new markers. She was using colored pencils, but I thought she would like markers better. She does! We had a blast ! I love memories like that.

Cleaned all the pans out again yesterday. I think the bunnies hate when I disturb their noon day snooze by removing their pans and dumping them. On the bright side, my garden will be refreshed with new manure for our spring planting. That is what is so very awesome about bunnies too. Not only do they make fantastic pets, but you get the very best pure nitrogen fertilizer from them that you can place right up against your plants! You get 2 perks in one. You sure cannot do that with your cat or dog's waste products! Soon I will have the most awesome looking plants in the neighborhood! hahaha. I also ought to mention I do sell my "excess" bunny fertilizer if any of you readers out there do not own a bunny but would like the same benefits as I get from the fertilizer. I just started using it on my bushes and shrubs, so haven't seen the pluses just yet. But my garden is awesome! I refill my hay plastic bags with the fertilizer and sell each bag for only $10 each. Just in case you need any , call or text 704-742-1326 to order. Thanks , and have a wonderful day today!

OOPS - I have been skipping my blog too long folks. Sorry. Just been so very busy with spring just around the corner and all. I have already begun planting my "bunny garden" . Greens for my bunnies and we eat them too. I had to put netting over it to keep the local wild rabbits out of it, but it is looking real nice so far. Have kale and dark green spinach planted as well as the grasses I had put out last fall, they are coming back. In fact the buns have just began to eat off of those yesterday. They are so much happier with that vs the store bought kale. They just love their early spring grass. Gobble it up quicker than I can feed them. Almost finished with my new pen I had begun work on. Will post the finished products picture soon. Here and on the "what's happening at Wabbit Habitat" on the Available Bunnies page bottom.
February 29, 2016
Well today is Leap Year Day! I suppose that makes it extra special, especially for those born on this day that only rolls around ever 4 years. I have a cousin born on this day many years ago. I am so glad I have a birthday every year, bless her heart, have on idea how she celebrates this day when it is not here each year. Oh well. All is going well at Wabbit Habitat at the moment. Bunnies all nestled in their beds , I suppose. I am preparing to go out and check on Ms. Butterscotch and see if she has us a new litter this morning. It was due last night and I checked at 8 and still no bunnies or fur pulling, so perhaps this morning I will get that baby bunny bundle surprise. I can't wait to see the little boogers and see how many she has and I sure hope they are all healthy. Am sure she will be glad once they are born and not kicking her from the inside any more. hahaha, poor girl. After this litter she gets a nice long rest. I am sure she will be glad of that .
February 27, 2016
I do apologize for not doing a blog for several days. I have been rather busy here and there. We have had some nice weather and I had to take advantage of it by cleaning out a few empty cages in preparation for the weaning of the Easter litters soon. They are 5 weeks old now and usually right around 6 weeks we begin to wean them. It is a possibility that I will leave a few of the smaller ones with mom a bit longer if I have the cage space to give them an edge up on the weight that the larger kits have already gotten. Most of the "fosters" were a bit on the smaller side, not ridiculously so, but just a wee bit. I really don't know how a few days may help them, but I just may do that to give them more "weight" before weaning , just in case they lose a bit, like most do at first.
I am working on building a new type of cage and if I am successful I will be posting the results soon. I saw it online on Pintrest and was extremely interested since I seem to keep acquiring more boys than I had planned. Some are kept for their unique color , in hopes that they will one day produce more of the same. Most I kept in hopes that they were girls, which I need desperately to give my does more time between litters. I love to space them out at least several months between litters if I can, unless there is a BIG holiday coming that most bunnies will be needed. Any way, I am excited about this newest addition of cage, if I can complete it successfully. ( Heck, "when" I complete it successfully!! ) Positive attitude means a lot!

I do hope anyone getting a baby bunny from me does assist your baby in doing some if not all of the preventable treatments I have mentioned on my "Wabbit Habitat" tab ( page). Especially while they are babies and up to 12 weeks old , I feel they really need the "Selenium & Vitamin E" powder and the Pedialyte in their water. You DON'T want Floppy Bunny Syndrome to kill your new baby. Other things I have that I feel are vital to keep your growing baby healthy are the Corrid treatment to keep away Coccidosis and the treatment to keep away Wry Neck; both of which will kill babies and adults. I also , especially in the summer, use the Diatomaceous Earth ( food grade only) to keep fleas and mites off of them. But it does not hurt to use it in the winter months occasionally as well, because these pests can come on the hay you purchase. Another good thing about using this is you can even put it in their food to keep internal parasites down. You just powder the bunny with the grey powder, keeping a towel over their face so as not to breath the dust. Their color will look bad for the day, but then it will go back to normal and all the pests will be gone. It is important to note that you should also powder their home, because the pests will fall off there and get right back on them if not taken care of promptly. Guess I was in a health talking mood today. Have a super day, even though it is supposed to be pouring rain all day!
February 22, 2016
Well all of the Valentine's babies have now gone to their "forever " home and are settling in with their new families and I expect are very happy. I just so enjoy seeing all those smiling faces when they come to get their new baby. I know the majority of them will be spoiled rotten in a week and that makes me feel so good to make the bunny and the people happy. Almost all of the Easter Babies have new homes in their near future. ( Awaiting deposits on many of them ,but they have been "asked for" ) Only 4 of them left. But I am awaiting 3 litters to be born very soon, only 3 days away for the first 2 on the 25th and then the last one on the 28th. I am getting excited to see what pretty colors we get out of these moms and dads. Those babies will be going home in April. The Easter babies are sure shaping up into some really good looking bunnies. They are all getting plumper and putting on the fur. Starting to develop those little personalities too. Beginning to see who the "shy" ones are and who the "boss" of the group is at this point. So adorable.
February 20, 2016
Yesterday I replaced the old "home built" fence at the back of the "petting area" with a nice new wrought iron one that is so much prettier. I am so glad that it looks nice and seems much more sturdy. But I did not get a "latch" for it , so now I have to find a latch to hold it shut. In the mean time I do have a bungee cord on it. I think it looks nice. I have it pictured at the top here.
February 16, 2016
New babies to be born in just 8 days. So excited about the new babies on the way. This week I cut all the mom's toenails so they will be short when the new babies arrive so they won't harm them when they jump into the nest box. I only have 3 litters due this time, so fewer babies, but this way lots of my girls will be on "baby vacation". hahaha. A rest from being pregnant and a rest from nursing. So glad I finally have enough moms to let them have longer rest periods!

Happy Valentine's Day to All of Wabbit Habitat's Followers! Hope you all have a very special day today. I am so glad to announce that all the Valentine's Bunnies that were ready to leave yesterday got off with their new owners like a charm. The most distant place they came from was Anthony and his gal Tanaya with their daughter from up near Washington, DC. I do hope they make it home through this bad weather safely. All the new moms n dads of the bunnies looked very excited and I am sure are going to spoil them so very much. I wish them all a long and happy life together. All the preventatives that we use here at Wabbit Habitat are always listed on the "Wabbit Habitat" tab, which can either be found on the Main Home Page or on the top under "more" tab. If you all have any questions, please feel free to call or text me at 704-742-1326 .... I am available from 7 am to 11 pm.

Today is a special day for me because today is my big brother's birthday. I realize this has "nothing" to do with bunnies, but it is "my" blog and is important to me. My brother , David, ( yes he has the same 1st name as my husband) ... is very special to me. I don't always tell him this but he is and I should. Whenever in my life I was struggling he generally would help if he knew about it. He has given me various items that I really could use at times and I could not afford them because of the situation I was placed in, raising 2 kids alone suddenly when my ex "stepped out". He is one special guy and I love him bunches. I am very blessed to have had such a good guy for my brother. I hope his only child realizes what a great dad she has and how very much she has been blessed with his presence in her life. I believe we all take things for granted sometimes. I intend to call my big brother today and wish him a happy birthday and tell him how I feel about him. Hugs to you David ! I love you!
February 9, 2016
Worked today in the rabbitry and hung some rope lights on the bottom rows to give the ones on the bottom extra light. Looks real pretty and I can see the buns better, plus it probably makes them feel better too. Re-arranged my roll around drawers and labeled the new ones that gave me more room for my bunny photo props.
February 7, 2016
Yesterday and Friday were Bunny Pick up Days for the first set of Valentine's Babies. I sure was blessed to see a lot of happy faces and I feel so very good about them getting new homes where they will be loved and get lots of individual attention. If you are reading this, "new owners" please remember to put your baby down ever so often so they can eat or drink. It is sure hard to remember that when you first get your bunny. The sweet loving bunnies make it so easy to just hold 24 hours a day. I just love Holland Lops attitudes! Any way, just know I am always here for you even after you leave with your bunny. If you have any issues , don't wait to call on me for advise. Of course there is always the local veterinarian too, just make sure he or she "knows" about rabbits, because all vets do not! In fact I encourage you to find a vet that specializes in "exotics" , which rabbits fall under that category as soon as possible. You don't have to take your bunny there, but find one as a back up in case something ever happens, you don't want to be searching frantically when little Foo Foo turns up sick one morning from swallowing something he should not have eaten. And if you are reading this and have not been all over my site here, please feel free and make the time to try to read all the site, because I have found lots of wonderful information that can be very helpful to raising your rabbit. You can always go to our home page and click on any of the green tabs or you can also go to the top of each page and find the same information in the tabs above, even under the "more" tab. I do add new information as I find it, which is usually fairly often. Call or text me if you need me at 704-742-1326 or you can even write me at email@example.com.

I am just loving this new surveillance system! I can turn on my phone or pc and look in on the bunnies at any time. I have even set up my thermometer inside to face one of the cameras so I can tell how hot or cold it is in there and if I need to I can go down to adjust the heat or air. Way cool! I can even zoom in on the action inside if I want to in "real time" so I can watch and see a particular doe and how she is doing if I feel there is an issue. Not to mention , the obvious, I can tell if anyone is breaking in and notify my kin folks next door if I am not at home and of course the police. But I am sure my husbands' family could be here in about a minute or two with their guns if need be. I am so blessed to have such a great husband to have given me this system for Christmas to put my mind at ease. The really cool thing is , that even if someone destroyed the camera during a break in, it would not matter, because the footage is in the "cloud" already and can be played back to the police if need be easily right over my phone or any pc with my password entered in. I feel so much more at ease and I can check today's footage or even go back to last week or any day I choose. Any way, just a big load off of my mind, because I have actually had some folks tell me to my face they ought to break in and take the bunny of their choice, can you believe it? Seriously, what IS this world coming to?
February 2, 2016
Well today is the day the groundhog tells us if we are going to have an early spring or not. I hope his prediction is early , although I really don't trust that critter to get it right, do you? Hey it is a fun mini holiday and we need to let him keep it, believing in him or not, because hey when else can a ground hog get that much attention. Poor thing, he sure is not as sweet and cuddly and soft as our bunnies, that is for sure. And heck, bunnies have their own holiday. They are celebrated so very much at Easter. Although in my book Jesus really should be the spot light. But the bunnies are popular then. I just hope folks realize when they buy one for Easter that he or she are a pet for life , not for that weekend.
February 1, 2016
Well , it seems this month is not starting out too very well for me. Two days ago my mom bunny, Clementine stopped eating and pooing. So I found out she had "wool block" . That is when they swallow too much fur when they pull their fur off their tummy for the babies to eat and to make their nest. I tried everything in the book to cure her and she died this morning. I guess I just got there too late and perhaps nothing I did would have ever fixed it... I was so excited she had a litter of 4 kits and had recently took in 1 from Butterscotch. They were all doing so very well. I guess now I have to divide her kits up between the other moms. It would have to be only Snow and Delilah , because poor Cuddles already has 7 of her own. I sure hope they take to them ok and don't hurt them. Please , if you are a praying person, please pray for these babies and the new moms to be able to take care of them and not turn against them. Thanks in advance.

The last day of January! Wow, this year is flying by already. Tomorrow is the month of "LOVE". At least that is what I think about when I think of February. I imagine most folks do the same. If you want to impress your "special someone" , why don't you think about making it an extremely special year for him or her with an adorable companion, a bunny. Every time you are away at work or out of town on a business trip he or she can think of you so tenderly each time they pick up that cute furry little ball of hugs n kisses that you gave them out of your love for them. A bunny can be so many things... companion, entertainment, love, snuggles, cuteness, and above all a new member to your family. They are easy to clean up after. The most mess you will ever find is a small hard little ball the size of a kix cereal. Provide them with some hay, feed pellets and water and they are good to go. I even have a harness for mine to take them out to Lowes, Petsmart and Home Depot or Petco with me. You can't imagine the attention a person gets when holding a bunny.
January 30, 2016
Hard to believe that Valentine's day is just a few short weeks away. I only have 2 colorful bunnies left and several Blue Eyed White babies. I do hope they find homes for that special day of LOVE. Everyone seemed to want Blue Eyed Whites so I bred for them and now the desire for them seems less for some reason. I did place Gyro, a lovely Blue Eyed Black VM up for sale again. I was going to keep that cute little bunny until it turned out she was a he...sometimes it is very hard to tell on certain bunnies until this 7th week. I was wanting a girl, so I had to let him go. Lovely bunny with gorgeous blue eyes too. Oh well, someone will want him, I am sure. I will be making my calls at the first of the week to get folks in "line" so to speak for their bunny pick up next weekend. Wow, time flies.
January 28, 2016
Just lost a few of Butterscotch's babies tonight. Have no idea what happened. I think perhaps they were injured during birth... so sad, never easy... now she only has 2. I may foster them out to other moms to give her a rest.
January 27, 2016
I just checked my surveillance system live feed "via my phone" and noticed the temperature in the rabbitry barn was up more than I had expected. It stayed warmer outside last night than I had figured on before I went to bed and so the little heater kept it a bit more toasty than I like, since all the newborns are also under heat lamps. So I decided to walk out there a few minutes ago and turn the heater down to get them temps down and was tickled to see that I have my last Easter Litter born from Butterscotch. I think she is through , but there may be more, so not sure. There are 4 little ones wiggling around in the nest. Yesterday evening Cuddles gave us 7 lovely babies! Pics of all the new litters are on the "Available Bunnies" page. I did not have my camera "phone" with me when I went down there so, Butterscotch's babies won't be up yet... perhaps sometime today.
January 26, 2016
Well I was surprised on the 24th with a wonderful litter of 4 from Snow and then on the 25th a wonderful litter of 4 from Clementine. Those last 4 were the very 1st litter of "brokens" we have had here at Wabbit Habitat. Broken is a pretty blotchy color like the color of our Clementine. I can't wait to see that litter get their coats in. Am so very excited! I still have 2 does that are expecting to deliver by the 27th. Butterscotch and Cuddles. Poor Cuddles looks perfectly miserable. I think she has a big litter coming. That girl has always seemed to give me 5 or more babies. I will be glad when it will be over with for her. She is so big, bless her heart. She was pulling fur yesterday evening, so it may even be this morning when I get my surprise. Can't wait to go see!!! Will keep you informed.
January 24, 2016
I am so excited and can't wait to go out to the bunny barn this morning. Both Snow & Clementine are due to have babies today. They usually do so in the wee morning hours. So I am giving them some time to themselves to accomplish their task at hand and then I will go check on them to be sure all is ok. I cannot wait to see what cute babies we will have some time today... it could even be tonight instead. But today is their due date. Yesterday I took the first 2 litters away from their moms to begin weaning. They are having a blast with their new friends playing and such. The video is online at Wabbit Habitat on Facebook if you want to see them. They played inside of course in the playpen before I put them in their new home away from "mom". I imagine they will be missing "mom" this morning something terrible. But I will give them a lot more hugs than usual today to make it all better and probably another play time in the play pen to help them cope with the loss of "mom". It is hard to believe that 6 weeks have gone by so quickly. Next week the other 2 litters will be ready to leave their mom's.
January 22, 2016
Today it is snowing like crazy ! It is lovely, but personally I hate all the extra work that it creates for me. I have to go out and get the snow off of the tarps on top of the bunny lots at regular intervals. The bunny boys are nice and toasty in their hutches with bellies full and new food and water and hay piles to munch on. But I am out here freezing pushing snow off the top and constantly talking to them because they cannot see me under all the tarps and blankets that cover them and the unusual noise would scare them. Meanwhile, in the bunny barn, one of my girls just had a new litter. As far as I can tell there are only 3 so far, she may have more. Delilah & Alpine are the proud parents. Delilah is a little "testy" about me being near her babies during the first 3 days, so a good picture will be in a few days.
January 18, 2016
Just finished putting the last nest box in and awaiting the litters to come for Easter Bunnies. My first babies are actually due on the 22nd and that will be Delilah, leading the bunch. (Unless she goes late). Yesterday I caught Clementine feverishly making her nest and even pulling fur, so who knows she may pass Delilah and have hers first even though she is not "due" till the 24th. Early litters do happen. I do have their heat lamps up "just in case" they go early and of course the heater is always on to keep them comfortable during this "birthing/kindling" time. My Valentine's Day babies are also inside , but will soon get to go outside on a day to day basis, as long as the weather is permitting. I do not take them outside when it is raining or "extremely" cold. My first 2 litters, Siberia's & Ebony's litters will turn 6 weeks old this coming weekend. Then they will begin weaning and be separated from mom and then be allowed to go outside to play. I sure hope we have a few breaks in the weather, because I cannot at this time turn the heat way down to almost match the outside temps since I also have babies due any day. So the Valentine's Litters will have to wait till some "temperate" weather to go out. In the mean time, of course they will be running in the inside play pen. Pictures are found on the bottom of the "available bunnies "page. I try to renew them several times a week and I renew the weekly photos between Friday and Monday each week.

Cleaned out my pans yesterday in the bunny barn and put together a few more urine guards for some already existing pens. I did not put them in at first , now I am having to do so to mostly keep hay from falling on the floor when there are so many babies in the pen with mom. They seem to love to push it out onto the floor, haha. I am sweeping so many times a day, when I would rather be playing with the babies and moms. I have 1 more pen to build and I will at least have all the ones I have here up and ready for weaning day soon. My oldest group will be 5 weeks old in a few days and so then only 1 more week till I have to separate them from their moms, have to have all those empty pens ready to put moms into. Plus I have several does due to deliver in only 7 days.... these will be my Easter Litters.

Yesterday I got my brand new security system up and running. I absolutely love it too! Now I can use my smart phone and see at any time what is happening around the house and the bunny barn and pens. I am so excited to be able to check on my babies like that. And the really cool thing is that once it starts recording it is up in the "cloud" , not somewhere that a crook can go steal the tape... so neat! I can come use my phone or any computer and see what "is" happening and even reverse it and see what "did" happen. My phone even alerts me to unusual movements in the areas it patrols so I can check it out immediately. Way cool this technology! I feel so much more at ease now that even if I go on vacation and leave a friend to help me with my buns that now I can still check on them at any time. So nice. And a real big plus it that if I see something going on I can alert the police and then my whole family that lives right over the hill and they can come to check it out. My husband has 2 brothers and a sister and of course all their spouses and older kids , so I feel they are really protected now. We are even lucky enough to have a law officer included in our family. Between all that and my 3 dogs I feel the buns are more secure.

All of my babies , adult and babies got their special banana treat with preventative meds on it to keep Wry Neck from happening. I am so glad I found out that you can use things like this to prevent awful diseases before they get a chance to ruin a baby's or adult bunny's life. If you are interested in this prevention, it is all located on my page "Wabbit Habitat" which can be found under the "more" tab or on the Home page you can click on the button "wabbit habitat". I usually wait till all the babies in the barn reach at least 3 weeks old to give this preventative. I just want to be sure they are going to be old enough to handle it. I do have the issue with the fact that many of the wee ones won't even touch the banana slice, so I have to wipe the powdery meds from the banana onto their paw or mouth. There they will lick it off and ingest it just the same. Wry Neck is something you really do NOT want your bunny to get. It twists the neck severely sideways and usually causes the bunny to lose its balance and fall around and also at that position it makes eating almost impossible. I had 1 bunny well over a year ago to contract this disease before I even found out about it. I cured the bunny with the same meds given 2 times daily via a syringe orally for 1 month. She is happy and healthy and loved today by her new family. At first I really did not think she was going to make it, but she was a real trooper and pulled through without any sign of issues at all! So glad that I could save her. But prevention is still best! Call or text me if you have questions on this. See my "contact" page.

Yesterday was bunny pan cleaning day. I let the babies play in the indoors play pen while I cleaned the pens and flooring. The babies surely enjoyed the new freedom of running wide open. They also enjoyed the purple tunnel to run through. Pictures are online here on the "available bunnies" page at the bottom. Cute videos are online on my Facebook page at Wabbit Habitat.

It amazes me the "quiet" of the cold air this January morning. I am still inside, tucked away comfortably in a heated home drinking nice warm coffee to help me awaken to my busy day ahead. But it still surprises me how very quiet it all seems outside. It is like , after Christmas and the New Year left, it all went sound asleep. Now I know this won't last long, because I will soon hear the roar of a school bus bump along our little road picking up its passengers for education, but it is nice while it is here. The deep frost that we had last night is glistening under the outside lights as the sun struggles to climb to its lofty heights to try her best to put a touch of warmth in our air today. My bunnies in the building are also tucked away in a nice heated home of around 60 degrees. My boys are not quite that lucky, but I did rig up some heat for them last night. Their hutches all face each other for a reason. I use it like the long past settlers would round up their wagons in a circle, the 3 double hutches face each other in a "C" shape. That way I can easily cover them all with tarps and make a cozy little hide away and in the center I have placed a metal stool and attached a huge "chicken light". It won't make is 60 degrees like where my pregnant and nursing moms are at, but it will knock off that chill and keep their water from freezing and make it a bit more comfortable. I also have each of them at least a foot or so of hay in their closed off box type area for snuggling in. I do "hate" this weather though. Can't wait until spring!!!

Wow , that was weird writing 2016.... Hope I don't forget to do that this year. Sorry, that I got quite busy yesterday and did not "blog" in the new year. Guess this will have to do. Took pics of the buns yesterday. Guess you saw the updated baby pics. Well, I for one was NOT impressed by the lighting and the fuzziness of many of them, especially the blue eyed whites. Some of them came out looking yellow with that spot light on them. So, as soon as the daylight gets here I am off to the barn to use that lovely sunshine to take re-take some pics. Hopefully the new ones I replace them with will be much more clear and less yellowed without having to use the spot light. Yesterday when I started taking them the sun was still up and some took great... but then as I progressed through my groups they seemed to get worse and worse due to the lack of sunshine. Natural daylight always seems to bring out better pictures. Man made light is just not up to par as far as photography goes it seems. Anyway, some time by late afternoon I should have them up and you will see how much these little critters have grown and how much more cuter they get every week.
December 31, 2015
Happy New Year's Eve folks. Well, I for one am glad to see 2015 disappear. We have not had the best of years in our family. Several members have gone on to be with our maker and so we are heading into a new year with less loved ones around. I am sure God is all the more richer with their presence up there, but they will be sorely missed. On the bright side, I do have a few more bunnies than I started out with last year at this time, so I can hopefully provide my Wabbit Habitat viewers with even more lovely babies of even more lovely colors. I am always looking for a new color to add to my little group. But I am careful when I add a new bunny, they are "quarantined" for at least a month in an area far away from the rest of my herd. I do this to protect the herd from any possible diseases that the new bunny has, if any. I watch them closely for that time and will inspect them often for any issues. I am at the moment seeking a blue ( blue grey) doe and a sable point. My herd used to produce a sable point now and then, but seems to have stopped for some reason. Oh well, time will tell. Any way, here is to wishing you all a very happy, safe & prosperous New Year to come!
December 28, 2015
Yesterday my husband worked so hard putting down really nice wide stepping stones at each entrance to Wabbit Habitat gates. They sure look nice and now I won't slip or fall where the mud decides to gather. It will make things much safer and looks great too! Thank you sweetie!
December 27, 2015
Been so very busy lately with all 4 new litters and Christmas, I have neglected my daily entries. Sorry folks. I will try to do better. Well the new babies seem to be doing just fine. I have some very unusual colors this time around. I just love 2 of them and am looking to "hold on" to them to see if they are what we need here at Wabbit Habitat or not. I will watch the coloring develop on them and the personality and even see if it is a doe or buck. I really need a few more does, but not really a buck. So if it turns out one or two of the factors above do not turn out to be what I am looking for the 2 buns will go back up for sale. So always, if you are "looking" at my site and are thinking of a particular bunny and it is either being "watched" by me or "sale pending" , "on hold" or even "sold" ... do not give up hope... sometimes folks get into situations they change their minds at the last minute and the bunny will go back up for sale. The important thing is to keep watching the bun you are interested in and be sure it is "unavailable" and the pic disappears before you give up on it entirely. You can also contact me via text or phone at 704-742-1326 to tell me that you are interested if the person changes their mind and I will "watch" the bunny for you and put you in my notes to do so and call you if the status changes on the bunny. Have a super day and a most glorious New Year's Day! ( I know I am a bit early on that. )
December 21, 2015
Well, my wish was granted yesterday. Our last bunny, Bella, got her new forever home! She is with a wonderful family with a very gentle little boy and I am very sure she will be loved beyond all means from them. I am excited for her. I still have 3 bunnies, 2 that are sold and will be picked up Christmas Eve and 1 that is still "iffy". The person has not deposited on her because she is already 9 weeks old and I have not heard from them about a time yet for pick up. They missed their last time due to a car accident, and I fully understand. But I would love to know when this little girl is going to be picked up. I just hate being "not in the know". So she is still a possible "available" bunny if I do not find out something soon. But I do have a lady that wants her waiting for his answer, so hopefully she will be home with someone soon.
December 20, 2015
Just 5 days before Christmas and only 1 poor bunny left that needs a "forever home" ... Please if any of you are reading this and have a heart and know of someone that can give lonely Bella a "forever home" let them know about her. I feel so sorry for her. She misses her litter mates so very much. I cannot put her in a pen with the other adults, they would hurt her. So she needs a sweet little child to love her or perhaps someone that is even an adult. There are so many folks that are retired even that come to get bunnies to give them company and love. I have even had several college age students come and get a bunny for their dorm or apartment to keep them company while away from home. The make wonderful surprises for an animal lover's birthday and even Christmas. But, just be sure that if you get one for a special occasion that the person won't tire of the bunny and just let it go. I always take mine back home to Wabbit Habitat, but still would prefer to have them enjoy a permanent home. I just hate for the little bun to spend Christmas alone. Of course I come out to hold her daily , usually several times a day. But everyone knows how the Christmas season is, rush - rush. And even I don't have the time to giver her the love she needs, especially not these next few weeks, when we all are running to friends and family's homes to exchange gifts and spend time with them. Or going out for that last Christmas gift, or even spending time inside making the gifts. We are just all very busy at this time of year. Well I will stop my endless chatter on the loneliness of one little bunny named Bella. ( by the way, whom ever gets her can re-name her on her pedigree, she is not "stuck" with the name I have given her. )
December 19, 2015
Only 6 days till Christmas... and already I am getting surprises ... my sweet girls are giving my lovely new litters to hug and love on. Bonnie Blue is pulling her fur this morning for her nest. I do believe in another hour we should have another new "Valentine's Day" litter. That is when they will be ready for their new homes. I can't wait to see what her lovely litter will look like. It is like Christmas , peeking at your gift.
December 17, 2015
Christmas is closing in on us and I still have not visited PetSmart for my bunny's special Christmas gift. I have no clue what they are called, but I always get them for occasional special treats. They are cute "puffs" that look like plastic, but they are edible. Very colorful and yummy, from a bunny's viewpoint. It is so funny when I give them to the buns. The whole barn inside is so loud with chewing, and I don't even have that many bunnies! They crunch so loudly with these things and love them to death. I will have to post a picture when they get their treat, or perhaps online at Wabbit Habitat on Facebook a video, so very funny how loudly they get with them. Wish I could afford them on a weekly basis for all of them. But they are gonna love it... shhhh, don't tell them anyone, it is a surprise!
December 16, 2015
If all goes well and the folks who have called for the last few bunnies do show up on Saturday, then I will be down to just 2 bunnies left. I realize I sound like a pessimist, and perhaps I am one. But just in the last week I have had several folks "say" they want a bunny, make an appointment and then text or call back and cancel , after I had put them online and given them my address. I realize that sounds a bit negative. But for a person who has had a close friend that sells bunnies and she had someone break into her rabbitry, steal several rabbits and kill or hurt many others while destroying cages and property, it can make one a bit wary. I even had someone that had put money down on a rabbit tell me to my face that they could save themselves some money and just break in one night and take the one they really wanted, which was one of my personal bunnies and not one that was for sale. Now, with a statement like that, wouldn't YOU even be a bit wary? Of course I have taken the necessary steps of having several guard dogs on my property, outside lights, hidden surveillance cameras with cell phone app for real time access, padlocks, and an alarm on my bunny barn, but still a person does not WISH for harm to come to their bunnies. I love each and every bun here with all of my heart and it would truly cause great grief , not just a little upset if something were to steal or harm my babies. I pet and hug them daily and they are my "children". Both of my kids are adults now, and so my bunnies are my babies, whether they are adults or adolescents buns, they all mean so very much to my heart and soul.
December 14, 2015
I was so excited yesterday morning when I went out to check on the bunny girls and found that Ebony was in the midst of giving birth to her very 1st litter. She had 5 babies and they all seemed healthy. I do hope they all make it. Once in a while you will lose one. Nature is like that. Something just won't be right inside of the little one and we humans don't know and there is nothing we can do anyway. It just happens. Then later that morning Ms Siberia surprised me with her litter of 6 new babies. I knew she was due, but expected her to go on Sunday night, not Sunday morning. Surprise!!! And what a pleasant one at that. She and Apple Jacks, my tort colored bun are the parents. Ebony's mate was my Siamese Sable, Rigsby. I can't wait till the fur comes in good and we can see the wonderful colors. Ebony has VC ( vienna carrier) in her background. Her mom was a blue eyed white, so the babies may come up blue eyed or with markings, or blue eyed whites. Some are very light colored skin, so it is possible. Time will tell. In a few days the colors should be evident.
December 13, 2015
I am getting so very excited to see what our new babies are going to look like. We have a 1st time mom that is due any day. I do hope she has no troubles with delivery and is a good mom, she certainly is a very good bunny. The last week I guess her hormones have changed her again and she is so very loving she would rather be petted than eat her greens. Ms Ebony is a wonderful loving bunny and so shiny black she is almost blue looking. I can't wait to see her new babies. Siberia (a blue eyed white) is also due to deliver today or tonight. She was bred with Apple Jacks, one of our newest bucks. He is a tortoise shell color. Ebony's beau was Rigsby, a Siamese Sable.
December 7, 2015
Re-arranged a few of my bunnies yesterday and got all the moms that are due back up on the top cages. I like to be able to keep a very close eye on them and for my age it is not that easy to get down low frequently, hahha. It happens to the best of us I guess. Knees don't do as well as they used to do. Just trying to save myself some issues. I did discovery yesterday that all of the new "stackable" pens I just purchased have doors that are way too small for all of my nest boxes. Ugh. Great now I have 6 pens that I cannot put a nest box inside. Guess that will have to house only my moms that are in early pregnancy or have kits that are out of their boxes. This is going to create a problem too. Seems like there is always some kind of drama around here...hahaha, guess I will just have to "deal".
December 3, 2015
Being sick with allergies to Liberty my little kitten has really put me way behind on getting things done around here. I have 2 bunny pens to build, several urine guards to make and all kinds of Christmas decorations to put out, including putting up my Christmas Tree. The bunny's trees are out, but mine in the house is not up yet. ugh... trying to play "catch up" is gonna kill me, hahaha.
December 2, 2015
Well it sure isn't long till Christmas hits and I am beginning to decorate Wabbit Habitat... yes the bunnies do have a tree... actually 3 small trees. One is lit up the other 2 don't have lights. I have chosen red garland to accent my green fences and hopefully be very festive. Of course, as always if you decide to decorate keep all of the decorations far away from your bunny whom may decide they look tasty. Hooks could kill them horribly and the plastic and paint could also do lots of internal poisoning. Please be careful with your bunny's safety! They depend on you to do so.
November 30, 2015
Had to finally go to the Urgent Care yesterday for those allergies to the kitten would not dissipate. Now I am on antibiotics and some cough meds, perhaps I will begin to heal. Liberty is now an outside kitten! Poor girl, tried to keep her in out of the cold, but it just did not work out with my allergies. But don't feel too bad for her, I made her the coolest little hide away bed. It is a plastic tupperware type box just a bit bigger than her with a soft fluffy bed in it. It is clear so she can go inside out of the cold and still see out. I made her a door and her favorite toys are in there too. She can come and go as she pleases and her own kitty breath keeps it cozy warm since it is a small space to heat up.
November 27, 2015
Yesterday was Thanksgiving and I just want to say Thanks to God for all that He has blessed me with. I am so very thankful for having a super sweet husband that tries so hard to understand me and doesn't give up. I am also thankful that I "fell" into this hobby of sweet Holland Lop selling. I have never loved an animal like I have loved my lops. I have dogs and cats and still do not feel the love for them as I do my lops. Each and every one of them are so very precious to me. I can just spend hours petting and loving on them. They are so very sweet and friendly. I venture to say, that if I had had a Holland Lop bunny first , there probably would be no husky dogs here nor a cat. They are so much more of a wonderful pet thank the other two I mentioned. No noise, no chewing the wire and breaking out of the fence as one of my dogs do a lot ( chain link wire now) ugh, and no bringing me dead mice or dead squirrels and then getting sick on my rug because he ate part of it.. over and over he does this.... I know it is a "gift" but PLEEZZZ... any way, I just love my bunnies. I also thankful for my 2 lovely children that have now "moved on" to their own lives. My daughter teaches at an early college called Mayland Early College which is part of the Mayland Community college now. My new son in law is an Emergency Room Physician's Assistant. And my son is still in college at Washington State University. ( Yeah I know clean across the USA) miss him like crazy. He will be home next summer though, can't wait. And I feel very blessed to still have my mom alive and still "all there" at the ripe old age of 91. Yesterday she was even helping cook for Thanksgiving. Had her apron on and all.
November 25, 2015
Remember when I had the "bright" idea to put a little teeny kitten in my bunny barn? Well, after spending 5 hours enclosed with that kitten while I built some stacker cages I am now terribly sick with allergies. Needless to say , Liberty now is outside on our carport. She has not been properly introduced to our older much larger male cat, Custard or our dogs. She also has not learned to stay on the carport or front porch ( they are connected) to stay away from the dogs, which know to stay off of those areas. For the time being , she is protected in a cage. I went out last evening and bought a tall plastic tub and a small animal bed to place inside of it. I cut her out a hole in the end and placed it inside of her cage so her own body heat and breath can keep her warm. On top of that I placed a large blanket for the night time to keep drafts off of her until she gets used to being outdoors again. I have not been this very sick in quite some time. Head throbbing and feeling like it is going to burst, throat sore from drainage, ears hurt and feel full and my glands in my neck are so sore I can't touch them. I am taking Claritin D, but it kept me up most of the night. Not sure how long I can continue doing that. So if you are the praying kind of person, please throw in a prayer for me and my allergies to get some relief. Thanks in advance.
November 21, 2015
Yesterday was my husband's birthday and we celebrated it most of the day. He is a wonderful person and loves my bunnies and holds them and really seems to enjoy them too. I love to share my hobby with him. I am very honored to have the good luck to have such support from him. My bunnies sure do like him too.
November 20, 2015
Yesterday I finished adding the screws and reinforced the fencing all behind and between all of the outside pens. I am relieved to have completed it. Now if a bunny somehow escapes one of the pens or hops out without me realizing it I can at least catch them before they get out into the yard and into more danger with my cat, dog or other wild animals. One day , in the near future I plan on putting wire on the ground of all that too, but not just yet. Perhaps in the spring time I will try to accomplish that feat.
November 18, 2015
Yesterday I at least got all the fencing up behind the green fence. Now I need to add a few more screws and wire to help assist it in its quest to hold the baby bunnies in, just in case they get out of the big pens. This seems like it has been an extremely LOONNNNGGGG process, but it really has just been a few hours each day. Last Friday and Saturday now it was almost all day each day, but I am getting there and it will surely be a relief for me to know that even if one hops out when I am trying to get inside the door they will still be safe for a bit till I can "chase them down".... hahaha, what a sight that would be.
November 17, 2015
Yesterday I worked on cleaning out my pans in the bunny barn. Most of my bunnies are potty trained well, but we have a few that are not quite good at that and their pans get a few pebbles in it. With the babies though, a few are still not quite adept at going to the potty to use the potty yet so the 4 week olds are still "getting there". Sure keeps my pans clean and I don't have to clean them out that often and since I empty the potties daily my barn smells nice most of the time.
November 16, 2015
I just added some great information to the Wabbit Habitat page under the "more" tab! It is how I conquer fleas here and also you may want to check out how I keep diseases such as Wry Neck and Floppy Bunny Syndrome away from my bunnies on the same page. Lots of helpful information on that page.
November 15, 2015
Well I did get the whole back area of the fence completed yesterday, but I still have a few more areas to complete, such as one of the gates and 2 more small pieces of fencing between the small shed and boys' lot, and between the boys' lot and the 2nd lot. So I suppose 1 more day will knock this job out and keep my bunnies much safer and I will sleep more soundly at night. I do believe all the aches and pains of crawling on my knees and sitting on a garden trolley hunched over using my fingers till they hurt will be well worth it in the end. hahha.
November 14, 2015
Yesterday I worked on putting up more wire behind the green fences up and down the long fence behind the bunny pens. I am trying to create a 2nd barrier ( just in case) a bunny would hop out when I go into the pens. That way they would still be safe until I could catch them. I just don't want anything to happen to my babies. Lots more work, but it will be worth it in the end. I started at the pen closest to the bunny barn and then went around the bottom of the bunny barn and continued down behind it till the end where the gate is. Then I began back up the long outer fence line of black chain link fence and am about half way down that long part so far. It got late and became real windy yesterday evening and I quit. Not to mention my knees were killing me... this is meant for younger folks to do, hahaha. Guess I will continue today once the sun gets up and it gets a bit warmer.
November 12, 2015,
I just added several new items I found online to the "Helpful Hints n Tips" page under the "more" tab. Check them out... I will also be adding more to the "ideas" page today at some point. I just love Pinterest , it gives me so many fun ideas for bunnies!
November 9, 2015
Today it is raining like crazy out there. I really do not look forward to getting wet as I take them all their breakfast. Wish they knew what all I go through for them. It doesn't matter I guess, I love them all any way. hahaha. But it would be nice if the rain would let up so I could go out in the dry. Thank goodness I had the forethought yesterday late to go pick their greens while it was dry. They are in my refrigerator in baggies.
November 8, 2015
Yesterday I worked on updating the bunny photos for the week. I do believe most of them turned out nicely and the babies had a blast playing in the bigger area I had created for them in the center of the room. Of course I had 1 little escape artist, Ivory. Had to put him back home with mama while his sister and brother played. He just kept climbing over the wee little fence and could not be content running in and out of the tunnel or playing with the various plastic balls or the other bunnies. You always get that 1 climber in the bunch it seems. hahaha.
November 7, 2015
Yesterday I re-arranged the Nursery Building and it looks GREAT!!! I love the extra room in the center of the building that it gives me. Now I can set up little bunny runs when I am out there working and they can play and it will be so much easier. I am in the process of building a new collapsible bunny run for them for the inside on inclement weather days. Check out the pictures on the bottom of the "available bunnies" page. Let me know what you think. You can always email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
November 5, 2015
Today the bunnies have had a blast in this warm sunny weather. Several litters of babies were enjoying the sunshine and digging in the sand and running like the wind around and around the huge 2 story hutch and they were so ready to go back to see their moms. They were worn out when I took them back in and fell asleep immediately. Now I know how to get them to nap, hahaha. The bunny run was also in use with several does enjoying their time outside grazing in the grass and running in the sunshine. Videos online within a few hours at Wabbit Habitat on Facebook and pictures here on the "what's happening at Wabbit Habitat this week" under the Available Page at the bottom.
November 3, 2015
Finally got the bunny building organized. Now I have an actual work space available to me to use. I placed all of my items in each of the containers with drawers, now all I need to do is to label them. I may try to conquer that this evening. One day I may actually get to settle down, but I doubt it. hahaha. The bunnies love me to be out there with them, because they get to run in the inside pen when it is raining like it has been the last few days. I do believe they were getting stir crazy.
October 30, 2015
Yesterday I added 2 new carts with 3 wide drawers each to the bunny building to help me organize items easier than the tubs I have been using. These drawers will keep my background photography materials from becoming so wrinkled by the weight of other items on top of them. I am so excited to have more "usable" space. I do think this will make my bunny world a lot easier than the tubs did. I was constantly having to dig to the bottom of the tubs hunting stuff and usually never finding it. This way I can see it easily, even label the drawers so I can tell at a glance where the items I need can be found. I also added 4 new sets of small black plastic drawers on the top of the work space so I can place very small items I need in them and get them off of my work space and it will look neater. Now to just have the time to go and organize the space! hahaha. I did accomplish one of the larger drawer organizers yesterday evening and while I was doing it I put several litters of babies at a time out into the bunny run inside the building, because it was night time when I was working on it. They had such a fun time running about and I was watching them so much and video taping them that I am afraid I did not get as much done as I needed to. The videos are online on Facebook under Wabbit Habitat if you want to see them. I will be putting the other one on there this evening, time permitted. Pictures of my organized cabinets will be here on the website at some point once I am finished.
October 29, 2015
Been rather busy with all the litters that have been born. A lot less time to blog it seems. I am so glad I have lots of babies for customers to choose from this year for Christmas and the holiday season. Started out with 21 babies and now am down to 15. Many folks are choosing early and some have birthdays to celebrate with a new forever friend. So glad my bunny babies are finding great homes to move in to. Always a plus.
Well, I am unsure if either of the last 2 does are going to have babies or not. They both seemed a bit more "fluffy" in the baby basket area, but their due date has come and gone... and unless there is an issue , they just may not be pregnant. Will try again for the Easter litters. So 21 babies is all I have for the days from November 8th to Christmas, unless Clementine or Buttercup surprise me soon.

Several more Christmas litters have been born. Meaning they will be available shortly before Christmas. Adorable sweet little Holland Lops. All tucked away in their mom's nest boxes under nice warm heat lamps and a heater... last night when I checked before bedtime it was a toasty 74 degrees in the building , not including under each lamp. So they should still be warm this morning. Going to check in a few minutes though to be sure. They are so cute when they are born. All wrinkly and naked of fur. No tail to speak of and ears flat against their head. But in just a few days we will see lots of fur begin to appear and then their ears will pop up and they will be able to see around day 7 or so. Can't wait to see the changes! So excited.
October 15, 2015
Heat lamps are on for the mom's to be tonight. It will be getting pretty cool starting Saturday night and will probably even have to have the heater on for them. Hopefully I will be seeing some new babies in the next few days. Yesterday I cut all the mom's to be toenails so they would be less hurtful to the babies when they hop into the nest to feed them. All the nest boxes are in place and several of them have already made their nests with the hay I have provided for them and now we just have to wait. This waiting is "killing" me ... hahaha.
October 13, 2015
So excited and waiting on the new Christmas litters to be born in the next week... can't wait to see the colors we will have available. I will be placing the pictures online on the "available bunnies " page as they arrive. If you want to see the mom's and the dad's you can view them on the "future litters" page. We should have a wonderful variety of babies for November and December.
I can see Delilah's babies moving around under all that fur covered nest. Will try to get a new picture tomorrow and re-count them. My first count was 6 , but mom was getting real "ansty" about me "messing" with her new babies and I may have counted one twice or even possibly missed one in that deep nest she built. Her nest building was featured several days ago on my Facebook Wabbit Habitat page. Go there to see more videos of many of the bunnies and even more pictures. "Like" my Wabbit Habitat Facebook page too please if you feel like it and be sure to leave me a "review" if you would like. I would appreciate it. I always feature a "bunny o the day" on there too, not always the same one I feature on here.
October 3, 2015
Yoo Hoo! Delilah had her babies last night! Can't tell for sure yet, but it appears like from 5 - 7 babies. I did not wish to disturb her much because she gets real protective over her babies , especially the first few days when her hormones run high. After that , she calms down a bit. She has never bit me, but tries to rush at me to get me away from her babies. She is such a good mom. Will adopt any babies I have from other litters even. She just gets real emotional those first few days after birth. I don't blame her, I wouldn't want anyone to mess with my baby either. I did manage to get one picture though of some of the litter. The colors look pretty, like possibly either grey or a blue color. No hair on them yet, just going by the skin color. Hopefully some pretty markings too, since Ice is the dad (blue eyed white). Can't wait to post the next pictures of them!
October 2, 2015
Still no babies from my 2 does. I am pretty positive Delilah is pregnant, but Butterscotch is another story. She is notorious for having only 2 to 3 babies, so sometimes she does not "show" very much , if at all... so there is still a possibility. Their 28th day was Sept.30th, but bunnies mostly go around the 30th to 31st day, which can be as late as October 3rd , unless she decides to go late... hahaha... my luck she will.
September 29, 2015
I can't wait to go to the bunny building and see if I have any new babies. The 2 bunny mom's are due on the 30th to Oct.3, but you never know if they may go earlier. I put their next boxes in with them yesterday and a pile of hay, just in case they wanted to get started building a nest. I learned the hard way you don't wait till the day they are due to do that. I did that once and the mom had the babies on the wire and all of them died. I do hope I see some babies, if not today, perhaps tomorrow. When I cut the moms' toenails yesterday, I could feel Delilah's tummy felt like babies in there. However, I am not sure about Butterscotch. Her tummy is a bit round, but she does often have very small litters... she may still have 2 or 3 wee ones in there. I do hope she has a few at least. They both are super moms, and really love their babies !
September 28, 2015
Bunnies are so adorable! I took a video of one of the little blue eyed whites sucking its toes this morning.. If you are interested in seeing it, check it out online on Facebook on Wabbit Habitat. I did not know that they did that... so cute.
September 25, 2015
Awakened from a deep slumber by my daughter's "mistaken" phone call, now I cannot get back to sleep. So I guess I will "blog". hahha. Anyway, sitting here in the dark with my steaming cup of coffee , I am hoping the young bunnies outside went inside last night during the rains. I checked on them about 10 pm and I opened up the top of the house to see all 3 of the baby buns that are waiting to go home with folks sitting in the middle of the little blue house in the hay. They looked for the most part , dry. Thank goodness they had sense enough to come out of the rain. Sometimes they don't. I hope they stayed there all last night. I would have locked them up in the hutch but I did not have the time to clean it out yesterday. Perhaps I will get the time to do so today and I can put them up tonight so they cannot get wet. But I bet they spent the night in the dry hay in the little blue house with their bowls of food in there. They even have their stuffed toy in there to keep them company. A little flat squirrel I think it is.
September 24, 2015
Yesterday I took new pictures and posted them online. The fall colors make you feel more in the mood to accept that Fall is actually here. The bunnies are enjoying the cooler weather and I have taken up all the big fans from the 10 X 10 lots , since I do not believe it will be over 90 again. The bunnies love this kind of weather!
September 23, 2015
Well Bunny Pick Up Day over the weekend went very well. Lots of new owners are enjoying their new family members this week and I have heard from a few of them. I am so glad the bunnies and their new families are happy. Sure makes me smile to know that folks love Wabbit Habitat bunnies. I know I miss the little boogers , but I am very glad they are being much loved and have even more attention. Only Dixie is left to be sold. I am still holding Gizmo and Cotton until their new families come to get them. I have appointments to meet with them this Sunday and next Monday and then Poor little Dixie will be all alone...no other bunny mates. I can't put her with my older buns, so she will get lonely, but perhaps someone somewhere will come and ask for her. I can't believe she has not been taken. She is so very cute. I have had a one lady want her and then they got here and saw one of the sisters and took the sister instead... so now she will be alone. If you know of someone that wants a loving little bunny, please let them know about Dixie. Her pictures are on the "available bunny" page. Thanks.
September 17, 2015
Preparing paperwork ( Pedigrees and Birth Certificates) today for Bunny Pick Up Day this Sunday. Can't wait to see all those smiling and excited faces of the folks getting their new bunny or bunnies. Some people do want them 2 at a time. It does make it easier on the buns to have a partner to go to a new home with. But either way they will be enjoying even more one on one attention. No more "sharing" with so many brothers and sisters.... all the food will be theirs alone, and so will all the toys and hay. They will not know what to do with themselves. I do hope they do well in their new homes and I am sure they will make folks very happy with their funny antics and sweet ways. After all, how can you NOT be happy when a sweet little nose is there to greet you at the door each evening with a wiggle and a lick. I just absolutely LOVE my work with bunnies. So very rewarding with so much love and kisses each day, I should have an issue with too much sugar, hahaha.
September 16, 2015
Yoo Hoo!!! Siberia & Rigsby have a lovely new litter of babies. Born just this morning. Can't wait for their coat color to come in and see what pretty colors we have and then I cannot wait till the eyes open to see who got mom's blue eyes. I am so excited! It is like Christmas all the time here! The pictures of the litter are on the "Available Bunnies" page. I did not wish to disturb mom the first day to get a good picture of each of them individually, so they are just all in their natural state. All bunched together. Looks like she has several different shades though some really dark some with spots and some solid grey looking... can't wait to tell more in a few days. Also , we have begun breeding for our Christmas Litters.... folks there is going to be a wonderful variety here available for Christmas for those little tots that want to have a long time friend. Please be sure you are going to "keep" the bunny. If not, do not ever let them free into the wild. Keep your pedigree and bring bunny and pedigree back to me. I will find it a home. I do not "refund" but will keep it well fed until I find a home for it.
September 12, 2015
Oops, been off of here a while. I still have been updating the site, but had not taken time to blog. Bad girl! Well, not a bunch going on at the moment. Have a few batches of babies to go home over the next few weeks. And in a few days to a week will be expecting more, if all goes well. I can hardly wait to meet the new arrivals! I will be sad to see these babies I have taken such time with go home with other folks. But I am very glad they all seem to be getting wonderful home and loving people that want them so very much.
The 6 and 7 week old babies are doing great while being weaned. Still gaining weight and eating like little horses. Lots of energy daily used up outside in the run. If you ever want to see the videos of them running around, just go to Wabbit Habitat on Facebook and there are lots of videos. This weekend Butterscotch's 2 babies go home with their new families. I am sure they will make several families happy and they will be even happier getting attention from many folks instead of just us at Wabbit Habitat.
September 6, 2015
Such a nice quiet morning. I don't hear any cars outside and it is still dark. I wonder if the bunnies are up and moving about in the cool outside. I bet they are not asleep like most folks this early. We went to bed a bit earlier last night, somewhere around 10 pm. I never can sleep past 6 to 7 hours so I am here up and about at 5:30 am. Can't do a whole lot that would make noise or I would wake everybody else up, so I blog. hahaha. Anyway, guess I will find out soon enough what the buns are up to. Who knows may even go out there with a flashlight to check on them. I do that quite often.
September 4, 2015
Today the bunnies all get their "diatomaceous" earth "bath". It is actually not a real bath with water... only the powdery diatomaceous earth ( food grade only) sitting in a pan and then I powder them with it. This wonderful powder does many things. First it kills external parasites. And I also sprinkle it on their food to kill internal parasites. It is 100% natural and even people can eat it. Not saying it would be tasty , but hey , it works. The white bunnies won't seem as white for a few days but it eventually wears off. If you do this for your bunny, just be sure you put a cloth or your hand over his or her face to keep the dust out of their face. The powder is very fine and flies in the air very easily. It could cause respiratory problems if you don't take precautions. Even for yourself. I wear a mask.
September 3, 2015
Turning hot again. The fans were turned on again yesterday to keep the outside bunnies cooler. And of course the air was on for the girls who are pregnant or nursing inside the bunny building. We were just to the point that they did not need fans or air and now it is back again. Oh well, that is our NC weather I suppose. It will be fall all too soon and I will wish for this warm air again. hahaha.
August 30, 2015
Today Buttons found her forever family. She will be living with a little girl named Zoe. They both looked so happy together today as they left. I am thrilled that she found someone so sweet to love her and spoil her, she deserves all that love. I will miss her as will her roommate , Ebony. But we will adjust.
August 29, 2015
Well yesterday evening I began covering my insulated walls with a heavy plastic covering to help protect the insulation from any water spills or bunny sprays. Yes they are girls and usually don't spray, but I am trying to stay ahead of the possibility that they might do so. Any way, boy several of my bunny girls did not like my use of the electric staple gun . hahaha, they thought I was thumping at them and boy did the feel fly... as I would staple you could hear one bunny girl thump her foot and then another and then another... we made music together up until around 9 last night. Hahaha so funny. They won't like it this evening either, because I have the other end of the building to do also. But at least the end where they are at is completed and they are moved to the place they will stay. No more "shuffling" bunny cages around. So glad I put the sliders on the bottom of the shelves when I built them, makes it so much easier to move. The pictures of before and after are on the "available page" at the bottom under "What is happening at Wabbit Habitat today" if you want to check it out.
August 27, 2015
Guess I have gotten a little behind on my "blogging". I am getting up earlier to get my feeding accomplished earlier and am not getting online till later in the day. I will try to get more punctual at this. Apologies to my readers. Any way, I want to let you know about the New Page I have added onto this site just in case you have not noticed it. The name of the page is "Wabbit Habitat" . I am creating this page ( it is a work in progress so far) to let my customers that buy bunnies from me know where it is that I buy items for my rabbits, the food I feed them, the toys they play with , etc. Just a general page that is devoted to answering some of your questions, before you even have to ask them. I am including pictures of most items. If you do not see the photo , then it may still be in the possible future posts. Feel free to email me at email@example.com to give me your comments on this page or on any others or with ideas on anything "bunny" related. Thank you for your time and attention to Wabbit Habitat.
August 23, 2015
Today was Bunny Pick Up Day and all but one of Siberia's babies has gone on to their new homes. The last one leaves tomorrow morning and will be happy in her new home by lunch time. Next Bunny Pick Up Day is in early September.
August 22, 2015
Only 6 babies left to choose from!!! More to be born in a few short weeks. These are the sweetest babies and I am so excited for the new bunny parents to come get them. They will be so very pleased how very sweet and loving they have become. Every time I feed them or get into their pens they are all over my hands wanting petting. I can't wait to let them go outside to run when they are ready to be weaned. They get to go and play in the inside run quite often, but not outside just yet. They are going to love the tunnels, rocks , sandbox and ball pit. I am so excited for them!!! I will be sure to post the pics when they are weaning and outside.
August 20, 2015
Siberia's litter of lovely blue eyed white babies are really enjoying the outside. They are running up and down the ramp to the big 2 story hutch and playing in the tunnels and digging in the sandbox. They love to climb on the rock and hid under it too. I will be putting the ball pit back in the pen today. Had to do some cleaning it out after that storm yesterday, it had pine needles and dirt in it. I can't wait to see how they like playing in there. They are such a joy to watch. I just love walking in there and having them all over my shoes where I can't walk, I have to shuffle. They really love attention too.
August 19, 2015
Well so far no more babies, guess we will have to wait till next time, which should be around 4 more weeks for the next girl that is due to deliver. But of course we have several lovely litters right now that are available, but they are going fast! Just sold 3 more today. Folks are putting deposits down to hold their babies till pick up day.
August 16, 2015
Sadness happened yesterday. Had a doe have her litter 5 days early and none of them made it. I have never had this happen before , but she was a first time mom and I do hear that it happens sometimes to them. Bailee is also seeming to have some trouble. She made her nest several days ago and I tried to assist her with a warm water bottom bath and mineral oil her nether regions and yesterday she passed a really Large kit. No more yet, but I have yet to check this morning. I go feed here when it gets daylight. I am afraid I will have to sell her as a "pet" only , because I do not want her to breed ever again, for her sake. I have heard the 3rd time is a charm, but this is nerve racking wondering if she is going to be ok. She is such a sweet gentle sort, would have made a fine bunny mom too. So sad... hope my other girls that kindle on the 20th do ok...time will tell.
August 14, 2015
Expecting some new babies here in a few days. Am getting excited to see how things go and who has how many and what color... it is just like Christmas around Wabbit Habitat when babies are due!!! I go up and down the hill so very often to check on moms. Will let you all know when the start "poppin up" ...
August 11 , 2015
Getting ready to go out to see the buns again. May be able to open up the bunny barn and let some fresh air in and turn the AC off, I hope. I am so excited to see the babies each time I go out there. They are growing so very quickly! I just posted new pictures yesterday , if you haven't seen them be sure to check them out on the "available" page.
August 9, 2015
This weather has truly been nice. The humidity being down makes the bunnies feel much better. Have not even had to turn the fans on. The cool shade from the trees and the lesser humidity makes them so much more comfortable. They are even more active in the evenings. Playing and jumping their cute little hops in the air, which I just love to see.
August 6, 2015
So glad it is raining a bit here today. We have sooo needed it! The outside bunnies are sure enjoying the cooler day. I took my mom to see my daughter's new house she is moving into today in Marion, NC. We helped her unpack some of her kitchen items and her dining room nick nacks and now at least she can see a floor where there was just a trail between boxes. Her hubby can't help her much right now, because he is studying really diligently for his State Board Exams as a Physician's Assistant. So proud of that boy! My daughter has her a new job teaching in a "high end" high school near Spruce Pines. She is a History Teacher and just got her Masters Degree recently. So very proud of both of them. I also am lucky enough to have a son that is getting his 2nd Masters Degree in Mathematics that goes to Washington State University. Sure miss him , but very glad my daughter is within driving distance now. She was a 9 hour drive to Mobile, Alabama where she went to school for 2 years. Ugh,been missing my kids!
August 5, 2015
Going to be a hot one today. Says 98 degrees. Fans are already on outside for the buns and the air of course is on for the moms and moms-to-be inside of the building. Guess I will be taking ice out for their waters around lunch time.
August 3, 2015
Was so excited yesterday to greet my daughter back into NC! She and her husband have been gone for 2 years living in Mobile, Alabama. A 9 hour drive one way! ugh. They lived there temporarily to go to University South Alabama. She graduated with her Masters in History and her husband with a Physician's Assistance degree. Now, they have settled down in Marion, NC, only a bit over an hour from here. We took them out last night to celebrate to dinner. Was so wonderful to see them again. It was a wonderful little trip and was a nice end to my weekend.
August 1, 2015
What a wonderful 2 days this has been!!! We now have 3 more litters of lovely babies to offer to all of the folks who love Wabbit Habitat. Butterscotch & Snicker's had their first litter together and there are 3 babies in this litter. Looks like there will even be a Sable Point in it. Been waiting on one of those , have not had one in quite some time. Bonnie Blue & Ice had a litter of 5 babies and Cuddles & Mischief have a litter of 6 babies. Wabbit Habitat is HOPPIN' with bunnies now! So tickled to have so many opportunities for my followers. Not to mention there is still one little bunny left from Snow & Samson's litter, she is 10 weeks old today and can go home with you NOW! Also there are only 2 Blue Eyed White babies left from Siberia & Ice's litter. All can be viewed on the "Available Bunnies" page.
July 30, 2015
We had rain last night. I do hope it will be a cooler day for the bunnies outside. Wish there was room to put them all in the cooler barn on these hot days , but there isn't. They seem to love their fans though for sure. Many of them seem to prefer it outside to in anyway. Guess it is that wild rabbit heritage that makes them know that is the natural place to be.
July 29, 2015
Today Bubbles left for her new family and she was so very excited. The kids were excited to have her too. I am always a bit sad when they leave, but seeing how very much it makes folks happy changes my attitude. I know the first few days will be a bit rough for the bunny, but once she gets used to the fact that she has new people in her life that love her, she will be just fine. Now Bonsai is all alone. I do hope someone picks her soon, she will be missing her sisters and brothers.
July 25, 2015
Kind of sad but happy too today, for my little hotot, Mischief found a new home. He will be living in Pennsylvania with a guy named James and probably bring him many new babies soon. He was such a handsome little guy and sounded like a little guinea pig when I would pick him up. So cute when he snorted at me. He will be a great brood buck and his Grand Championship will sell many baby bunnies. I am sure this fella James will love him. The Transport lady told me he always takes great care of his bunnies and loves them like they are his kids. That makes me feel much better and I know Mischief will enjoy seeing some of his own kind around... and not be surrounded by Holland Lops. Take care little Mischief and enjoy your life with all those new Hotot ladies in your life. Just don't "overdo" it... rest some now and then.
July 23, 2015
Going out to get a few "nest boxes" ready for a few of the girls. Seems I have about 4 due within the next week or so. Getting excited to see how many babies we will get this time and what colors they will be. It's just like Christmas around here!!!
July 22, 2015
Rather quiet today in the bunny lot. Giving out 100% pineapple juice to the first pen full of buns today because they are "molting" so much , am worried when they clean themselves they will swallow too much fur. The pineapple juice helps them "pass" the fur. Bunnies are unable to throw up so anything that goes in must come out. "ew" , but true. I did only give them just a bit each and they all LOVED it. I mixed it with a bit of water, in case it was too strong for their tummies and also gave them a bit of oats in their food to help with any issues. Sounds counterproductive, but I think it will work. They were thrilled to be getting 2 treats in one evening
July 21, 2015
Snuggles went home to a nice family today. He will be loved by 2 children now in an inside air conditioned home. I am so glad he will be loved and taken care of, but I will miss him. I still have his handsome twin brother Snickers though and he should be a daddy very soon.
July 19, 2015
Today was Bunny Pick up Day and I only had 2 of the 4 bunny owners that could make it. The other 2 will be showing up at various other times and the litter will finally have their "forever homes" and be settling in with new families. I am sure it is both exciting and a bit scary to the bunnies in a brand new place with new faces and new smells. It seems that both the young ladies that came today are going to be very loving new bunny moms. I feel comforted knowing that they both are so "in to" their new roles as bunny parents. I am sure they will do just fine in their new homes. But if they ever need advice on anything bunny oriented, they have my number.
July 17, 2015
Today we almost finished hanging all of the fence. I will put some pictures on here when we have it completed. It is beginning to look really good. I love having the ability to not have to watch my dog as much around my bunnies. I so worry he will get one of them, this way I have less worries.
July 15, 2015
Soon we will be putting up the fencing. Can't wait, hope we can get it completed before Bunny Pick Up Day , Sunday. I am excited to be getting this finished. Snow's babies got to go out in the portable pen today, they are in their big 10' X 10' pen daily, but today they got to explore even more and get a break from their regular home setting. Soon they will be going home with their forever families. Will be sad to see them go, but I will also be excited to see how much other folks will be loving them.
July 14, 2015
Finished painting the fence yesterday and got so busy changing out pans in the rabbitry and putting new liners on the tables that I forgot to take pictures of the completed fence painting. So tomorrow I will try to remember to take a few pictures, although it is not "up" yet, it is still pretty to me. Hope you will like it too. I also went shopping a bit and found 2 new plastic bins with pop up lids to put inside the bunny building for my absorbing materials that go inside of the pans and potties. So excited too that Snow & Snuggles and Tundra & Ice are "making babies" today and the next few days. Can't wait to see what the outcome will be in around 31 days. Bailee & Ice just finished doing the same thing for a few days this last weekend. So Wabbit Habitat should be "hoppin" with baby bunnies again real soon. Of course we still have a few others that will be born nearer the end of this month... Butterscotch & Snuggles , Bella & Napoleon and Bonnie Blue & Ice also have a few babes "in the oven" if all goes well. Plus we already have 3 still left from Snow & Ice's litter and 4 new ones from Siberia and Ice's litter. So all in all, there should be lots of babies soon to choose for that super birthday gift for your child, or for your wife or hubby. They make great "surprise" gifts too, or even a wonderful life time companion for a grandmother or grandfather. So many elderly folks love them because they are quiet and easy to care for and they love to sit on your lap while you watch tv and get petted or brushed. They also make an easy pet to travel with for shopping. I even have a special made handbag to place my bunny in so she can go in stores with me and NOT be in the hot car. It has mesh sides so she can see out and get fresh air and a nice flat bottom for ease of sitting or lying down in. She loves to go to Lowes and walk around and get petted by so very many folks that are quite surprised to see a sweet bunny in the flower aisle.
July 13, 2015
Today I am going to hopefully complete painting the fencing. Then we will try to start putting it up, possibly throughout the week and on into the weekend. It will go up in various places to attach to my buildings and my existing fence. This may show to be a bit tricky , but hopefully it will work out just fine.
July 12, 2015
Today I am painting on some really cool fencing I bought for the rabbitry. It is really nice and can't wait to get to put it up to enhance the looks and to create another boundary between my bunnies and the outside predators. Just recently I saw a fox outside of our big gate. They make me nervous, knowing they think of my bunnies as a tasty morsel of breakfast. So I am trying to protect them in every way I can. Can't wait to share the pictures once the fence is up!!!
July 11, 2015
It sounds like it will be another "scorcher" today, up into the high 90's again. Another day of taking frozen ice bottles to my bunny boys n girls, more fans, air conditioning for the mom n babies, and ice in their water mid-day. Keeping them cool can be a hassle, but I have no choice because I am the one that put them in those bunny hutches and that is my responsibility to keep them comfortable. I am sure many folks out there do not do this, and think I am a bit nuts. But of course I do not care what they think, only what my babies feel. They are all so very sweet, how could anyone neglect their feelings or their comfort? That is my thoughts on it. Well, got to go get started feeding them before it gets hot. They don't care much to eat when it is hot, don't blame them, neither do I.
July 8, 2015
A lot has happened since the other day when I blogged. Snow lost 2 of her babies. I really was not surprised these 2 were born much smaller than the others and were a bit bluish tinted when born. Even though I kind of thought that may happen , it is never easy. All the other 4 seem to be doing just fine. Sometimes in a bunny mom's first litter, it can be "touch and go" . Let's hope that is over for now. Also having another issue. Miss Bailee is late by a week on the birth of her babies and I figured she had just gone through a false pregnancy ( it happens). But I do believe she is seeming to have a bit of an issue with this litter. Of course this is her first time and she is inexperienced for sure, but usually things go smoothly. I do hope she does not have one of the babes in there sideways. Going to attempt to turn the little fella if that is what the issue is... have to watch her like a hawk and see. No babies yet . So worried about her. If you believe in prayer as I do, please throw a prayer in for my precious Bailee. Thanks. Will keep you up to speed on this situation tomorrow. For now I need to go be nearby her.
July 6, 2015
The babies are already getting just a tinge of white look to their little naked bodies. Wiggling this morning with very fat tummies from their morning feeding. I do hope they all make it. So very cute.
July 5, 2015
Imagine my surprise when I woke up this morning and checked the bunny birthing building and there were 6 lovely new faces inside! Siberia had had her babies last night. Ice is the daddy. They are all so cute and completely naked. Can't wait for that white fur to come in. Wiggling and moving around blind and deaf. Such helpless little boogers. Siberia seems right proud of herself today. I am proud of her too.
July 4, 2015
Such a lovely day outside today! I love the breeze. It makes it feel like I am at the beach. Minus the sharks. The bunnies are surely enjoying this cooler morning. They are hopping around the hutches like crazy this morning. Happy Independence Day to all of my Wabbit Habitat followers and to any one else who finds this blog. Hope you have a safe holiday!!! And remember how we got this freedom, it was NOT free... many soldiers had to die for us to have this life. Remember them today.

Today the bunnies get banana as a treat. Only 1 small circle of banana though. I know that they are full of natural sugars which can upset their delicate "gut" digestion and cause diarrhea. They just love banana though. I love to see them really "go to town" eating that treat. I don't think there is a single one that doesn't gobble it right up. Some treats I will have to come back and pick up before it draws ants because I have a few picky buns that won't touch it. That is the way it is.... no bunny likes everything. I even have one that hates sunflower seeds, that would be Miss Snow. She will pick all around them and leave me a bowl full of seeds... no pellets. hahaha.
July 2, 2015
Just about ready to go out to feed all my bunny babies. I have to take my little bunny bowls and gather my fresh homegrown Alfalfa, Grapevine Leaves, Grass, and Rose Leaves and Petals this morning. Some days they get Daisy Leaves and Petals instead of one of the other. Today they get bananas for a snack this evening. Sometimes that will be apples or cucumbers. I use many other veggies too. There are all kinds of "safe" veggies and fruits listed under the "more" tab above under the "Bunny Food" page. Please be sure to read carefully before you feed your bunny something that may not be that safe. Lots of folks think it is safe to feed them "lettuce" but the light green lettuce can really mess up their stomach and possibly cause deadly diarrhea. It also has almost zero nutritional value. Most folks have the misconception that bunnies LOVE carrots. I did. But do you know not one of mine will eat a carrot... they love the carrot tops, but won't touch the orange carrot. hahaha. Now a piece of apple they will kill for or banana they go nuts over. Are my bunnies "monkeys" in disguise? hahaha so funny but true.

Today Waffles got to go home with a sweet young lady. I am so glad, because she has been waiting patiently as her sibling and her other 2 friends received new "forever homes" she waited patiently but kind of sad like , missing her bunny friends. Now she is happy and loved even more on a daily basis. I am tickled for her.
June 30, 2015
Cleaning out pans today and taking pictures to update the babies that are available. A lady is coming tomorrow to decide between Pickles and Waffles. Nothing against Pickles, but poor Waffles feels so lonely since her litter mate and her other bunny baby friends left, that secretly I hope they pick her. I just feel sorry for her, check out the picture above. She is just sitting on her house like she is waiting on one of them to show up or something. Breaks my heart.
June 29 , 2015
Today I finished re-modeling the bottom of Rigsby's hutch. It had no bottom in it and he was sitting on the plastic waffle sheeting and I thought he would be cooler on wire. He can go to his upstairs to lay down on a solid floor if he wants to, but at least I think he will be lots cooler with air coming up under him.
June 28, 2015
Such a pleasant day today out that the bunny barn windows are all opened up and the fan is on inside. Lovely day and several babies of mine are out in the playpen today. So loving this weather change!
June 26, 2015
Can't wait for the break in this heat spell. The weather forecasters said we will have not even 90 degrees one day this weekend. I am so glad it is coming down even if it is for just a small period of time. The poor bunnies outside sure do not take to this much heat well. Ice for them near lunch time for their water, ice bottles near the ones that look as if they need it worse and the fans seem to help, but the temps dropping would be even more helpful.
June 25, 2015
Finally finished putting up the insulation , will post a picture soon. It does not look as pretty as it did in there, but heck the air conditioner works soooo much better. It can keep up with the horrible heat outside now. It was only keeping it around 7 degrees cooler, now it is more like 20 or 25 degrees different. Wow, much better! Probably cost a whole lot less to operate too. So glad it is done though!
June 21, 2015
So glad my bunnies don't have to swelter in this heat... the boys outside even have fans in each of the pens, but the girls are cooling it in air conditioning now. I have put window curtains that reflect the heat and keep it outside , where it belongs. Each of their pens are 3 foot long by 24 wide and of course you can see how tall they are ( tall enough that the one on the left (Duchess) has a plastic stump she climbs on) . I have read of so many folks losing babies from this heat. I am truly blessed that I have this air for them to feel comfort while feeding and having babies. I also have a small bunny run inside on the side I am standing here that several times a day the girls get to go out on the floor to exercise and play. In the afternoons when it is cool enough I take various girls outside to use the "play pen" that you have seen before online here. So they get lots of exercise plus their cooler home during the heat of the day.
June 17, 2015
So thrilled I finally got a window unit air conditioner that works well enough for the bunny barn. The first one was really no good at all. It did not help the temps at all. But this one seems to be doing well. The bunny girls are all inside now and they can have their babies in comfort and not so miserably in the heat. The new babies are really enjoying this too. I am so excited to finally get them inside the building!!!
June 15, 2015
Today my husband finished digging the ditch for the electrician to put my wire into for my new building. I am so grateful this is getting done. The electrician is supposed to come out some time this evening and hopefully get it all completed and I will move my bunnies into it as soon as possible, hopefully before the heat of tomorrow comes. I feel so sorry for them. Wish I could bring them all into the house with us. But my allergies would not like that too very good. But soon they should be much more comfortable. Can't wait!!!
June 14, 2015
It is so unbearably hot today for the bunnies. They have bottles of ice to hug up to and ice chips in their water. I even have a fan on for them...can't wait till I can get the majority in the building during these hot days. Perhaps by tomorrow evening I will be looking at that possibility of moving them inside there , if the electrician gets here. My honey has been digging the hole for the power to be run out there. Such a very hot time to dig too. I fixed him some shade transport with our pool deck umbrella sitting in the wheel barrow. He also has a fan on him while he digs. Poor baby, won't let me do any of it at all. He is one sweet fella. He is worried about the bunnies too.
June 11, 2015
Whew! Yesterday evening there was quite a bit of work going on here at Wabbit Habitat. I used a big ladder and went all the way around one of the pens securing the tarps on top again and putting new connecting wire to the chicken wire underneath hooking it to the top frame. It had become somewhat loose. Several of the plastic zip ties had also broken. I guess because in the winter when it snowed I had to get the snow off of the top by bouncing it from underneath with an old broom. Otherwise it just wanted to stick to the tarp. Now only 2 more 10 X 10 pens to go, hahaha.
June 10 , 2015
It has started out to be quite a lovely day today. The sun is very pretty but promises to become a very hot day. I cannot wait until I can get my moms with babies put inside my building. Have someone finally ready to do the electrical for me, just have to wait on the power company to spray for lines before my hubby digs. Ugh this waiting is killing me! hahaha.
June 9, 2015
Today was picture day for the babies again. You will notice new pictures have been placed on the "available" page of the new wee ones. Some bunnies were co-operative , some were not. I just take a batch of pics so I can surely get a few good ones out of them. Hope you all like the pictures. Yesterday they all got powdered with natural Diatomacious earth to keep fleas, ticks, flies and any other creepy crawly at bay. When they live outside, there are all types of things that can pester a sweet little bunny. This item does no harm to the bunny and only kills the pests. It is even edible for humans and bunnies. It's main ingredient is silica. Great for gardens too. I had some left and used it on the garden and my rose bushes. Since it is natural, I have to re-dust them about every week due to them playing out in the rain or jumping into their water bowl at times. hahaha, funny little critters!
June 8, 2015
Yesterday all the adult bunnies got a wonderful treat from my garden ( which is pesticide free). I fed all the adults tops off of my carrots that I had picked. Boy were they excited to get to eat something completely new , or at least this year to them. I just love to see them enjoy such healthy treats.
June 7 , 2015
The sun seems to be behind clouds this morning and I am thrilled to get a few extra minutes to water my garden before I feed the bunnies. It looks to be a lovely day. There is even a small breeze blowing, feels great outside!
June 5, 2015
The still of the early dawn amazes me how peaceful and quiet it can be. Folks who sleep late so miss out on that peaceful quiet of the early morning. Not even any birds are chirping and the traffic is very light. I just love this time of the day. Not quite dark and not quite light yet. Almost like time stands still for a few moments.
June 4, 2015
This morning I need to feed the bunnies real early because I have a doctor's appointment with my mom today. I am so blessed to still have her, she is 90. She still walks without assistance ( unless say it is a hike, she will carry a cane then) , lives by herself in a wonderful community where folks check on each other, share a watermelon, supper, etc. They always seem to look out for each other. I only hope if I ever get to that age I am lucky enough to meet such great friends. One of her neighbors even cooks supper for them all each day. Such sweet folks. Anyway, that is why my bunnies get to have an early day light breakfast. I had to turn on heat lamps last night for the wee ones and also for the Lion Lop doe, Bella. I was told when I got her she had been mated with the male I have, Napoleon. So we will see if it "took" , she should be having them between now and Sunday. If so, Lion Lops will be available soon. Bella is a lovely tort doe and Napoleon is a blue. Those babies should be so colorful and cute.
June 3, 2015
I'm up early, my hubby got food poisoned a few days ago and also has an ear infection and is going to the doctor today. He got sleepy early last night around 9 so we went to bed early. I just can't sleep that very much and woke up at 4:30 am "bright eyed and bushy tailed" like my Grandmother used to say. So it is too dark to go feed the bunnies, so to the pc I go. I have updated a few items on here and next to check my emails. It got a bit chilly here last night, 63 degrees. I closed the hutch early on, I sure hope all those babies are ok.. can't wait to check on them. But I will definitely wait till the sun comes up to warm the hutch before I open it so they won't get colder. I will probably feed my "quarantined" new batch of bunnies in the back yard first so it can warm up for the babies. I usually don't feed my "back street bunnies" until last , because that means I have to wash up anything I use before I go to my other bunnies. They are "quarantined" because I do that to all new bunnies regardless of how "healthy" they look. You never know what is "hiding" unless you watch them for a while, and I do that for a whole month. Their time is only 3 weeks more to be able to join the group. Can't wait till they all are nearer to each other, makes things a lot easier for sure.
June 2, 2015
A lovely day today. It is a bit cloudy and I am going to put some more of my flowerbed edging out during the cloudy spells. Took this weeks photos of the babies and they are updated on the "available" page.
June 1, 2015
Today is a fine day for a new litter to be born. Snow and Samson's litter came this morning early. There are 7 babies , hope they all make it. She seems to be taking good care of them so far. There seems to be only 1 light colored one in the group. Can't wait to see what the other colors will become in the next few days. It is always kind of like a present for me when they are born... you never know what you will get.
May 30, 2015
Today I am back after a 2 day "mini vacation" with my husband for our 9th anniversary of marriage. We went to Old Salem and to Mt. Airy where Andy Griffith was born and raised. It was a wonderful 2 days with my honey, but now I have to get back in the saddle so to speak and continue my Bunny life. Out here in just a minute or 2 to empty more bunny pans and possibly brush a few of them. Do a few a day and it won't get overwhelming.
May 27, 2015
Boy my herd is growing by leaps and bounds! I have now added 3 Lion Lops ( Holland Lop /Lion Head mix) and also a new Holland Lop doe ( broken tort). I now have 2 more bucks, both orange vm and a vc. And of course my new Hotot. I still have to find him a girlfriend. I have all of these in Quarantine since they are new ... they will stay there until they have proven to be well for at least 4 weeks. Then to find room for them out front in Wabbit Habitat. Whew! So much to do! And 2 new litters due any day from 2 of my Holland Lop girls, plus the 2 litters that are growing each day.
May 24, 2015
A lovely day for hanging with the bunnies today. They slept during the heat of the day as usual. This evening they were out and about running and hopping all around. Caught Butterscotch on top of the small house peeping in at Siberia who is in the hutch awaiting her babies. I went out and found her a small step stool so she would not jump so far down. Hope she uses it. For those of you who do not know, you should never put your bunny in a very high place and leave it alone. They can injure themselves very badly when trying to get down or if something scares them and they jump down. Even if the bunnies get into a situation like she did, it is best to give them a way to get down easier. Until tomorrow !
May 23, 2015
Very nippy last night compared to what we have been having. I have 2 outdoor thermometers. One is against the brick wall of the building and the other is out on a post in the back yard. Awoke this morning to 41 degrees on the post and 51 on the warm brick wall... brr... to the first one... of course the bunnies are under a canopy of trees, which who knows if that kept them warmer or made them cooler. Will fine out soon enough.
May 22, 2015
This morning there is a slight nip in the air. So glad I closed Miss Siberia up last night , just in case she had those wee babies. I just went to check on her and no babies yet! I opened her door back up to let her back on her porch so she could get the morning sunshine. She loves to sleep in the sunshine when it isn't too hot. She is so much more needing to be petted it seems since she has become pregnant. That is truly a good feature I suppose of those mommy hormones. She was always loving, but now even more so. I cannot wait to greet the new babies when they arrive!
May 21, 2015
Worked on cleaning out a few pans today and changing out all of their water bowls to new clean ones. So glad I bought another set of those heavy crocks for water, so much easier to just switch all of them out and then go wash all of them at the same time and sanitize with my Clorox and let them dry in the sunshine. So hoping that Siberia will choose one of these cooler days to have her babies in, because I am sure it would be so much more comfortable for her during the cooler days. Yet it is not too cool for newborns. I am excitedly awaiting her's and Snow's kindling day.
May 19, 2015
Today the bunnies are all resting peacefully since it is much cooler this morning. They just got their bellies full from all of the fresh alfalfa hay, rose leaves and petals and the grape leaves I just fed them. They are enjoying this misty fog we are having, I think it cools them down even more. The sun has not come up blasting them with its hot rays just yet so they are all sprawled out on the hay in their individual lots resting and dreaming of hopping in a field full of clover. They will be awakened very soon by the sunshine I am sure. A few of them even enjoy the sunshine, most of them will hide in their hutches until the sun is behind the big trees behind their pens. In the evening there is much activity once the sun gradually disappears over the horizon. That is when the bunny pens get to hoppin'. They love early morning and late afternoon.
May 18, 2015
Today I have been busy readying my Quarantine area for a few more bunnies. These new bunnies will stay there for at least 4 weeks to be sure they are completely healthy. Any time I get a new bunny I keep them separate from my herd just in case anything "crops up". It never hurts to be too careful. They will join the others soon enough.
May 17, 2015
I looked on here today and I have no idea what happened to all of my "May" posts... Oh well, perhaps they will show up later. I finished putting in one of those screen doors that have automatic magnetic closures on the double doors of the bunny building. That way I can leave the doors open and not worry about a bird or bees getting inside. I love it! Pictures of it will be on the opening page slide show soon.
April 2, 2015
Today Whiskers went home with her new owner and will be settling in right about now. She was such a sweet little bunny and will be very much missed. I am sure she will be getting lots of attention and I saw her new bunny home and it was very cute. Only one more baby left from that litter to get to go home. He is already sold, just had to be put on hold as far as being picked up to take home, they are coming for him in mid April. Little guy is going to get lonely without his sister. Above is Whiskers in her new home.
April 1, 2015
I feel I have to apologize to my folks on the "waiting list" for the (BEW) blue eyed white babies. I sure hate that Snow has not produced for your this time. She is young and perhaps her hormones are a bit awry. I surely thought she felt pregnant, perhaps it was her way of putting on some "winter weight" that fooled me. I will assure you that she is being bred daily to Ice now for the next 4 days. Surely this time it will "take". If it does the babies should be born at the end of this month or the very latest the first of next month. I read yesterday in an article that one lady's bunny waited 5 days after her delivery date to have her bunnies and they were born with hair on them ( which is odd). So perhaps Snow will surprise me still yet. One just never knows with animals. But I am assuming , since she was "due" 28th of March that she is "not" in the family way. I have never had a doe NOT turn up pregnant before so this is NEW to me also. Again I apologize for the extended waiting period.
March 28, 2015
Well , we "thought" spring was here. Tonight it is going to be terribly cold again. I hear down into the mid 20's. As for the bunnies they will be tucked in their beds in deep straw to keep them warm. Bunny mom , Snow, is already in her hutch closed up with heat lamps in preparation for her new litter , which should be showing up within the next few days. ( these things seem to never be a true science as far as the timing) Of course when I breed my girls I usually put them in with the fella for a few hours a day and then repeat for at least 3 days straight, and usually that does the trick. However, you just never know if it really "took" or not. I am looking forwards to a litter of blue eyed whites within the next few days any way. My next bunny litter won't be due until mid April, and that litter will be a colorful one indeed. A black tort and my blue eyed white male, Ice. Next up , my "now on vacation" Delilah. One of my favorite does of all. Sweet , loving and a wonderful mom. She will be bred on April Fools Day and of course the following 3 days, just for good measure. Her babies will be expected roughly 30 days after that breeding. She is my girl that has been giving me all those lovely Vienna Marked babies, the oranges and opals, just like the one at that top of this page. I am so very excited for that litter to get here. Butterscotch's 3 babies are now being weaned and are outside away from mom's warmth, so of course they have a huge heat lamp to snuggle under tonight. I placed their food and hay right under it to ensure they will spend the night close to the heat. Even so I do worry about all my babies. I do wish the weather would make up its mind! I need the Summer sunshine!!!
March 27, 2015
I am getting excited for our next litter of lovely blue eyed white babies to be born. Our girl is due this weekend!!! More little white babies hopping all over the place. Can't wait to greet them!
March 26, 2015
The last of the baby bunnies will be going home this Saturday. So sad ,I will miss them terribly, but I know they will get so much attention they will be having a blast in their new homes. This will make room for my next 2 litters coming up, one of which should be born by the 28th of this month. The other litter will be born in early April. I can't wait to see what they all look like. It is always so very exciting. Almost like getting little Christmas presents all year through. Especially on their birth day.
March 24, 2015
Spring has "sprung" here at Wabbit Habitat! The daffodils are in full bloom as well as all sorts of flowering trees and bushes. New mulch has been placed on the flowerbeds in front of each pen and I finally finished the flowerbed in front of the "boy's pad". I put the same sort of plants in front of it as the ones in front of the other pens; roses and daisies. Both of these types of plants are edible to rabbits and of course with such close proximity to the bunnies will not be sprayed. In fact once the plants get enough foliage on them and start flowering I usually add some of them daily to their diet. They love the freshness of the spring flavor. I also have already planted "their" garden full of alfalfa , and it has already begun to sprout up , can't wait till that grows enough for daily feed. Each morning and afternoon the little bunnies as well as the adult go racing around the huge 10' X 10' lots playing in the morning's early rays and the afternoon shade provided by our massive trees. I love the spring and summer!
March 15, 2015
The lovely sunshine we had today sure brought the bunnies out to play. In the early morning and afternoon they were scampering everywhere at once it seemed. They absolutely love this weather. The moms are really stretching out and enjoying the afternoon breeze. Babies were hopping all around and running through the tunnels chasing each other up and down the ramps into the hutches and out again. In and out of the ball pits nosing the balls all around and out again and on top of the rocks to sun themselves. In the boys' pen they are all thumping their feet at the noisy neighbors using their chain saw to cut down a nearby tree. They will calm down soon. It doesn't help matters for the boys that Delilah has now taken up residence in the community area due to the fact she is beginning to wean her babies. The sight of such a lovely sleek young lady just drives them all wild trying to compete for her attention to sniff noses at the side of each of their pens.
March 12, 2015
Well, we know I am no good at posting with the Galaxy Notebook... hahaha. Well, by now you have guessed I have my computer back...Woo Hoo! So tomorrow there will be more pictures for the babies.
Can't believe I am attempting this on my Galaxy Notebook....I have never entered my blogs this way...so if it is freaky that is the issue....sorry...guess this is the way it has to be until my pc gets back...it appears my spaces are acting weird...perhaps I may need to stay blog free until my desktop pc gets back home...signing out for now...see you when my computer comes back home.
March 9, 2015
Just to let you all know, my pc is going in for a "clean up" and I will be unavailable for a few days. I will catch up to my blogging around Thursday, March 12th. Sorry for the brief absences, couldn't be helped.
March 4, 2015
Yesterday was the most lovely warm day, the only downfall was the awful windy conditions. Despite the lovely weather, the wind drove my bunnies inside their hutch. They do not like the wind it seems. Earlier in the day they were out playing until all that gosh awful wind started. I had so many plans to work out in the bunny lots, but the wind caused me to sneeze and get the headache so very badly. So the majority of the day I did not go outside. Such a pity since it was so nice and warm. It is supposed to rain again today. So glad my bunnies have the shelter of their hutches and the covered lot for them to run around in and stay dry.
March 1, 2015
The new babies of Butterscotch and Ice are moving around in the litter box now. They were a week old 2 days ago and so cute. They finally have hair and some color to them, such cuties. She had a small litter, this was her first litter. Glad it was small for her, she is one of my favorite does.
The place is over run with babies...hahaha. Every time I go into the bunny lot here comes the whole batch of them after my feet. I have learned to drag my feet due to worrying that I will step on one of those quick moving babies. They are all growing so quickly and seem to really love the outdoors. Weaning day is coming around the corner for the Blue Eyed white group soon. They are almost as big as their mom and beginning to drag her down some. They are so very sweet and lovable. I will surely miss them when they are going to their new homes.
Wabbit Habitat has been covered in a 3 inch blanket of snow last night. My husband and myself stayed up until nearly 3 am, going outside every hour or so to knock off the wet snow covering our lot roofs to keep them from falling in on the hutches. Thank goodness it isn't snowing again tonight. Even though the lots are covered, the snow blew inside a bit and the babies had a blast playing in it. As for me, I will be glad when this lovely mess is gone. The hutches stayed a toasty 55 last night. Thanks to the thermometer we have inside them to see what temp it is whenever we need to without disturbing the litters. Below are a few pictures of them playing outside.
February 23, 2015
I wish you could have seen the activity I saw the other day when I put the the babies outside in the big hutches! They were so very thrilled to get to have so much room to play. Up and down the ramp they would run , through the tunnel down below and on the front porch and off they would jump. I have a video on Facebook under Wabbit Habitat if you are interested in seeing how much fun they were having. This website does not allow me to put videos on it, unless I buy more "rites" , so they are on the Facebook page. So cute and they are really enjoying the outside air. They of course have heat lamps inside the hutch if they get cold, but so far it has been fair temps outside for them, I bet they played most of the night. Hope they remember to go back home to eat when mom is available. I can't wait to watch them when I let them out into the whole 10' X 10' lot in s few days. That would be another video opportunity.
February 22, 2015
It is silent once again in the mornings here. My 2 moms, Delilah and Ice have now taken residence back up in their 2 story hutches. I felt that the warmer temps would help the 3 and 3 1/2 week old babies to get acclimated to their new homes. Foot deep hay inside the closed part of the hutch nestles underneath 2 heat lamps. Adjacent to the closed part of the hutch is a front porch that contains their potty, a food and water bowl as well as a full hay basket , a salt lick and of course a few balls for them to play with and a wooden chew toy. I covered up the top part of the hutches with tarps last night to assist the heat lamps in their effort to keep them warmer. It appears , according to the thermometer gauge here in the house that it is around 55 degrees directly under the lamps. Snow's groups is much bigger and I opened up their downstairs so they could go outside underneath the hutch to bounce and play and go through the tunnel in the hay. Delilah's group is confined to the upstairs until I feel they are ready for the larger area. I will open the bottom of Snow's hutch to the outside 10' X 10' lot once I feel the babies have gotten the idea how to get back up to mom each night. Right now our newest member, Bonnie Blue is enjoying that area and is using the small blue house with her heat lamp inside. Well that's all for today.
I woke up this morning to a brand new litter of babies from one of my favorite bunnies, Butterscotch. In the wee hours of the morning she had a small litter of babies. This is her very first litter and I was kind of expecting a smaller one from her. They all look healthy and pink and of course very wiggly. Her hormones have not set in yet so she is perfectly fine with me in the pen with her. Tomorrow or the next day she may become a bit grumpy. Maybe since this is a smaller litter she won't be as bad as the moms with larger litters, we shall see. I cannot wait to see what colors I will have with them... the dad is our Blue Eyed White, Ice. He has made some truly lovely babies in the past. He is the dad of the last 3 litters we have had. Butterscotch, herself is a lovely black tort.
February 18, 2015
Yesterday was a full day of activity. Due to the extreme temperatures my bunny moms are in our home for the week. Thursday the oldest group will be going back outside with the heaters on in their hutches. We had a few inches of ice and snow so I had to go outside and get it off of the tops of the hutch pens which are made of tarp material. This took quite sometime but I did accomplish it finally. The boys are doing fine. I keep each of their hutches wrapped in a tarp also, besides the one that is over the entire lot. This helps them keep the wind off of them and also helps them keep warm from just their breath in a confined space. Not to mention the almost 2 foot of straw in each of their houses inside their hutch. Of course they do have the opportunity to go "downstairs" and be outside to play and explore inside the enclosed part. Just keeping all their water fresh and "not frozen" is quite a task at the temperatures we have been having lately.
February 17, 2015
The 2 Easter litters are growing like weeds. Snow's Blue Eyed White babies are huge puff balls of white fur. The are so cute and trying to run in this inside pen is funny. They will get up speed and can't get stopped or make a turn quick enough. I can't wait to get them back out into their hutch so they can have more room, although it has been nice having more opportunities to pet them and hold them without being so dang cold. Tomorrow I will go back out to their hutch and put new straw in for them and spiffy it up for their return on Thursday. Hopefully, according to the forecasters it should be getting a bit more like it should be as far as temperatures go and not so frigid as it has been, besides Snow's babies are going to be 3 weeks old very soon.
February 15th, 2015
Oops I missed blogging yesterday. This happens from time to time when I get a bit too busy or something comes up early in the day. I blog best in early morning for some reason. Well, yesterday was Valentine's Day and my little bunny, Patches left for his new home. He will have his very own little hutch on this sweet lady's enclosed porch that is heated. I am sure he will feel lonely without his brothers and sister, but it was inevitable. He will have so much love and affection from this sweet lady I am sure. I do not mention names, because sometimes folks do not want to be mentioned, and I did not ask her if it was ok. Patches was in the Valentine's litter and he was the cutie with the most white all over him. Kind of looked like a quilt does with patches, thus the name hit me. Anyway, I have the last lady coming today for the last 2 boy bunnies. She will have a blast with both Snuggles and Snickers. Snickers is the cutie that was the only one in the litter that decided to sit straight up for his Valentine's picture. This lady called me the other day and said she had their set up all ready for them, sounds like they are going to each have a hutch. I forgot to take Patches picture with his lady yesterday, the wind was blowing so very hard we all just wanted to get inside. Well I didn't say it yesterday, but I hope everyone had a fantastic Valentine's Day. As for me I got flowers, got to go out to eat and a very nice storage shed for my bunny items. My hubby could not have pleased me better!

In the silence of the morning I hear the soft noises of my bunny moms as they feed their babies in the next room. The rustling noises of them on the hay in the one pen and the other mom on her cage floor. I feel relieved knowing that they are warm and toasty and not possibly cold outside in this extreme weather we seem to be having lately. I would have worried that a heater would have quit on them in the middle of the night and they would die from exposure and I would not have known it had happened. So in they came. I will be so glad to not have to be doing this next year this time. I will hopefully have my bunny building for my mom's to be and my new moms. I plan on keeping the babies inside the building in the heat in the winter until they are around 3- 4 weeks old, depending on the temps outside. That way once outside they will be plenty old enough and have enough fur to withstand this.

Seems as though we just can't seem to get rid of this extreme cold weather. Going to bring my moms n babies back inside. Not sure the heaters will keep up with this and I worry about the little ones. This way I will feel better about them not having to worry about them weathering the cold and a heater going out and me not knowing. Lots to do to prepare them a place inside. Gotta make this blog a bit short today. See you tomorrow.

Well "Bunny Pick Up Day" went off without a hitch. 6 of the 9 babies found their way into new homes... I have only 2 left a lady decided to change her mind and get one I had from this litter instead of the Easter Litter.. last ones of the Valentine's Litter and just a few more days until Valentine's Day is here, this Saturday! So , Folks, if you have dallied around and NOT gotten your sweetheart something special, then you only have 2 possibly 3 chances here to get some sweet loving bunny that will absolutely melt her heart. The photos of those happy new owners are on my "New Owners" page. Well worth a look at those kids and the adults faces. I so enjoy seeing the excitement in those little eyes of the children when they first see the bunny babies. It warms my heart to know that my bunnies make them so very happy. Now you can see why I am in this business. Making folks happy makes me happy.
Bunny Pick Up Day is just around the corner for our Valentine's Litter... this Saturday. I sure will hate to see those cuties leave, but I am excited for them that they will be getting so very much more attention than I can give them each individually since they will all have their very own new owners ( family). I sure do hope all those folks will keep me up to date on how they are doing. I am always glad to answer any questions or help you with any problems with your bunnies, even if you don't get them from me. I also will take a bunny back ( but no refunds are available) if you change your mind and don't want them any more, if they came from my rabbitry. It would just butcher my heart to know that one of my bunnies met an awful end such as being let out into the wild when it has no idea how to survive alone and afraid. I do hope no one is as heartless as to do that to a domesticated animal, dog, bunny, cat, whatever. I cannot wait to meet the new families and am so very excited for Saturday to get here soon!

Sitting here in the quiet of the morning I am sipping coffee and listening to the soft noises of my bunny moms in the adjacent room. Perhaps next year this time my "birthing building" will be up and running and they will have a nice warm quiet place of their own and not have to listen to the afternoon alternative rock music I enjoy. Instead they will then bask under the warm glow of a heat lamp and enjoy the quiet the outside morning gives from their new building and new cages. I can hardly wait to get going on that project. I have so many fantastic ideas roaming around in my head for that new building. As of now they must share my space due to such horribly cold weather outside , at least until the babies are a few weeks old and grow some significant fur.

I wonder why the ground hog was chosen to tell if spring is close or not? I think they should have chosen a cute little bunny. Just think how much more pleasant it would be to watch a cute little bunny pop out of its hole in the ground and see its shadow, verses that burly looking creature the ground hog. I know bunnies already have their own holiday, but I just think "personally" I would much rather have a bunny predicting my springtime than a homely looking groundhog. Besides, for the past several years the groundhog has done a pretty bad job of predicting it seems. I believe it is time for the bunny to step in... how about you?

So very excited.. we awoke to a brand new litter of lovely babies again! Our 2nd Easter Litter has been born! So many Easter babies to choose from now! It is so exciting, almost like Christmas awaiting a new litter. I am always so concerned for the moms. Especially first time moms like little Snow was. Well she has experience now! Such a lovely new litter of white fur balls wiggling around. We brought both mom's inside because I do not have my Baby Building set up yet. I was worried the heat lamps would not keep it warm enough for them at least for the first few weeks. Hopefully by then our weather will settle back down a bit.

Working like a busy bee today, setting up a larger place for my expecting mom inside my home. I had her in a temporary cage but have been working on a 2'X 4' enclosure to give her room to roam away from those kids once they are born. I finally finished it and moved her in and just in time because she is showing "nesting" behavior. She is tearing up all the newspaper on the floor of the enclosure and putting it inside of the nest box. Who knows perhaps the birth will be tonight. I knew she was very close.

Today I am going to cover a subject that all bunny owners should know about , hopefully before they get their lovely fur covered friend. The subject is "Digestive Problems in Bunnies". Usually I would not do this in my blog, but I had a call from a new owner last night and she was in a worried state. Her bunny is now several months old and she has been eating greens for quite a few weeks. ( You should only start feeding your bunny veggies at 12 weeks and then only 1 kind at a time) She had done exactly just that and seemed to be doing everything fine. Gorgeous bunny too. Well, anyway she text-ed me in a frightened sort of way that she was quite worried about her bunny and the symptoms she described to me sounded like what is often called the "bloat". The symptoms of the bloat are a rabbit that is lethargic and doesn't move around much, or one that is acting or grunting like in pain, or grinding their teeth like they hurt. Sometimes stretched out trying to get comfortable. Also usually their stool becomes somewhat smaller and their eating slows considerably. You can usually feel a hardened belly with knots if you hold them in your lap and feel the tummy area. This condition can often be caused by some of the "safe" vegetables even, such as Beets, Broccoli, Brussel sprouts, cabbage and cauliflower. You can still give these veggies to your bun, but be sure to do so sparingly. Even if the little critter is so excited about these new veggies, please be careful and only give a few here and there, not necessarily every day. Not worth the possible risk of this condition which can and often is deadly.
Anyhow, I ran straight to my pc and started researching. I was sure that I had already saved an article on the home cures, but could not find it so I looked for her and started sending information from different sites. I am unsure now which sites I did get this information from, so please if this happens to you research this yourself or better yet get that bunny to a vet if possible !!! Below is the information I found.
To help the bunny get more comfortable you can lay the bunny on a heating pad on low on your lap stretched over the pad so the tummy can get relief. You can also later or before lay the bunny on its back on your lap and gently massage out the knots to ease its pain. The bunny needs FIBER ... lots of very green , very wet veggies to help "move things along". There was one site that said you can make some "gruel" out of the bunny's food pellets and water and try to get it to eat it spoon fed if necessary. One site even said you can use children's meds for gas on them, simethicone. However it did not say the amounts, so I would be very careful there. Another site said that if the bun could drink on its own to spike their water with a bit of apple juice or vanilla extract. It also said you could use a syringe and put some into their mouths. (Now on this point about the syringe , I would be extremely careful, because they could aspirate the liquid into their lungs, and cause even more problems) Another mentioned Pedialyte , a children's rehydration drink. One more idea was given was to give them canned pumpkin and let them eat it on their own. Probiotics will assist in helping balance their internal systems once this is over, you can purchase these at places such as PetSmart. If you can get the bunny to move around that also helps the internal movement. Sometimes during the massage phase a gentle vibrating toothbrush can even break up the gas or even if you have a vibrating dryer you can hold them on top of it to help vibrate the tummy and get their gas to move out. Keeping the bunny warm will also assist in their comfort level... a warmed dryer towel wrapped around them, a warm full water bottle, a warmed sock full of rice placed on the belly ( if microwaved please be sure you feel it first!!! Microwaves have a way of making hot spots that coudl burn a tender bunny belly!) and of course supervised use of a heat pad is also one of the warming hints. (make sure it does not chew on it)
Those are the only tips I could find. If you find more , please write me at firstname.lastname@example.org and let me know.
Last of all... do not let that bunny be uncomfortable for long before you take it to a vet. This is one of the leading causes of death in bunnies. Take this seriously!!!
Prevention is always the best cure. Feed veggies one kind at a time. Be very careful to not feed many if any of the few I placed above at a time, no matter how much they love them. And do as she did and reach out to someone who can help. But last of all and certainly NOT least... take that bunny to a vet as soon as you can if none of this helps or even if you are worried and want to be certain bunny vets know what they are doing!!! Have a nice day.

As I sit in the dark of the morning well before the sun has decided to brush our landscape with it's wonderfully heated rays, I ponder on just exactly what my bunnies do at this hour outside in their hutches. Are they awake? Are they asleep? Are they out hopping around in the dark just before that lovely sunshine decides to grace us with its presence. True, I could go out and see what they are up to , but I am not an outside during the dark person. I enjoy the watching as the sun begins to peak above the trees that surround our little farm. To view the glorious colors that arise from the horizon each morning. I just wonder, in their little bunny minds, if they find that sunrise as awesome as I do. Or do they just take it for granted and say, "oh hmm, just another day" in their little bunny brains. Or do those same lovely eyes blanketed with such graceful lashes actually kind of think like we humans do, superb! I have lived for another day. I kind of feel sorry for the bunnies that are "house bunnies" that they do not experience that daily glorious sunrise. ( of course I do realize they have the added bonus of being more comfortable in "human terms" throughout inclement weather) but they do miss out on experiencing just exactly the natural environment that their ancestors have had for centuries.

This week has started off with wonderfully warmer weather and the babies are really outside playing a lot more. They have truly been busy climbing the big rock, chasing each other through the tunnels, digging in the sandbox, and trotting up the ramp and back down into the fresh sunshine and warmer air. The downfall to that is, that they are eating twice as much with all that activity I am afraid they will eat me out of house and home. Every time I go out there all 3 feed bowls are nearing empty, and I fill them to the top each time. As soon as I pour the food into the bin, here come all 9 babies and everyone seems to want to eat out of the same bowl, like there aren't 2 more right around the corner, and they know that! They are still as curious as ever and seem to love my old red knock around shoes I wear to the bunny pen a lot. Every time I show up in the red ones they sure have to inspect them a lot. Funny bunnies.

( to the reader that wrote me this morning... I apologize for contacting you this way, but your email is not receiving anything. I know of no one else that "bunny blogs" and thank you for the compliment.)
Now back to my blog!
The 9 new babies that Delilah and Ice have are growing exponentially! She has even surprised me with her wonderful mothering abilities. Frankly I was expecting at least 1
"runt" out of the group, but they all seem roughly the same size. Delilah needs a bunny crown for pulling off this one. I do hope her next litter in the future is not quite so large, for her sake. I am sure this one has taken a toll on her physically and of course mentally as well. She still worries about them when I get into the hutch and begin playing with them. I can see the fear of losing them in her little bunny mind. She is such a loving bunny. I pick her up and hold her close and tell her that everything is ok and she seems to calm down her worries. Although I am sure when it comes time to "wean" them in another week or so she will probably go through quite a depressed feeling. I will make sure to give her plenty of love and attention , poor baby girl. She is still my 1st baby in my eyes.

The new litter of 9 Valentine Babies are growing and eating on their own, of course with mom's milk too. They are enjoying eating some hay and pellets as well as water. They are getting fatter and more furry every day. They do not like this damp weather and stay inside the hutch mostly, although the ramp door and porch are open to their fun. Downstairs they have a white tunnel to climb through and hide inside of as well as fun toy noisy balls to roll around on the front porch and use their potty. As soon as they reach 4 weeks of age I will open the big hutch and downstairs pen door to go outside into their big 10' X 10' enclosure for more exploration. There they will find a climbing rock and a hide-away underneath plus a fun tunnel, a ball pit, a sandbox for digging in as well as a small wooden house to hide inside of and lots of room to run and play.

The Valentine Babies are crawling all around outside of the nest and have ventured out onto the front porch. Now they are snoozing under the heat lamp after all that adventure and fun. I am so glad they have now gotten big enough to eat food pellets and even hay. Now they will grow even faster and I cannot wait to see how cute they become when their fur grows fuller. More pictures each week.
Today all the folks came after their baby bunnies. They had turned 8 weeks old last Tuesday, but no one could come through the week so we made pick up day for the weekend. I sure hope the babies sleep well in their new homes. It seems all but one was going to be an inside bunny. They all seemed excited to see their new bunnies and most all of the pictures are now up on the "Available" page as sold. One person did not want their picture up there but gave me permission to give their 1st name. I respect that decision. But the others look to be very happy with their bunnies in their photos. I am so very glad each bunny has found very loving people for their future homes.
Now I have the Valentine Litter to focus on which is indeed very large. The babies are now 8 days old and have fur and should be opening their eyes possibly even today. I am so very excited! The colors are just lovely!!! I have several "orange" or actually "broken orange" . Each baby has white on them, mostly on their face a little white place some on their bodies a few. It appears I do have 2 grey ones also. Some may become "broken torts" too soon for me to tell yet. But so very adorable. Pictures to come soon on the "available" page.
The babies have been born! 2 litters of babies have been born and will be ready for Valentine's Day next year. All seem healthy and their pictures will be online in a few weeks, close to the first of the year. They of course are born without hair, but will soon show us what lovely colors they will become. With a Blue-eyed white dad and two different colored moms, I assume we will have a wide variety of colors. Unless I get surprised this morning with a new litter from Snow as well, it may be that she was just a bit immature yet to breed. She is also a much smaller doe than the other ones , so she may be lagging behind in the maturity area, perhaps an Easter litter is more to her liking. Anyway, 2 lovely litters for folks to choose from for Valentine's day. I already have 6 folks on my waiting list, some of which have color preferences and may or may not be in these litters. Keep watching for those lovely new baby pictures! Coming soon.

I noticed in Delilah's nest area this morning there was some of her fur showing up, meaning it should not be long now before the new babies are born. There was no fur in Snow's or Snowflake's boxes, so they may or may not be pregnant or ready yet. Time will tell. All the heat lamps are on tonight , just in case of new arrivals.
December 9, 2014
The Valentine Litters are expected any day now. I still have not seen the “expectant mom’s” pulling any fur out to make a nest, but just last week Delilah was grabbing hay in her mouth and running up her ramp to create a nest. Perhaps she was having false labor pains. I am not sure, but sometimes she has surprised me with an early delivery. Tonight the heat lamps will be on for them, just in case they deliver early. Awaiting with much anticipation!!!

The warming lights are on the babies tonight. Only 2 more Christmas babies left for folks to choose from. This litter has gone very quickly. Each litter seems to get even more adorable and so hard to let go. But I am so happy that so many folks are enjoying my bunnies so that makes it easier to part ways. I get so excited to see the faces on the kids and yes even the adults as they come to pick up their precious little furry bundle. This is such a rewarding business. Plans are in the works for a few Valentine litters. So keep your eyes open for some very cute bunnies to come. I can't wait!
The new babies are HERE! They were born on October 21st. All seem to be doing well, healthy and wiggly. Looks like we will have several colors to choose from for Christmas. Keep your eyes on the "Available" page for pictures in roughly 2 weeks. I always wait till then so they will actually look like bunnies. hahha. They are born looking rather like little mice with a short tail. They are already getting fur and so full of life. Can't wait to share the pictures with all of you.
I am so excited, the new Christmas litters should be born next week. I can hardly wait to see what cute bunnies will be in my Christmas Clan. I surely do not see how they can get any cuter than the last ones on our "Past Litters" page. Each groups seems to just get cuter and sweeter.

The fall weather is here it seems at Wabbit Habitat. Chilly air blew in last night and turned our temperatures down to 30 degrees very quickly. The bunnies had extra bedding materials added yesterday in preparation for this change and the outer doors shut on the hutches, this way they can keep the heat in and only have the stairways open to the outside. This morning I will change out their frozen water and open their doors to let in the brisk but a tad warmer air once the sunshine becomes strong. It is not supposed to be that cold tonight. Will check on the 2 week old babies also. I am sure "mom" bunny kept them toasty as well as the extra bedding.

I feel that Holland Lop Rabbits are one of the most wonderful animals alive. This has been the first time every I have owned a rabbit and I so very much enjoy all the fun they bring to my life. It is my goal to make sure all the bunnies at my Wabbit Habitat are as happy and healthy as possible. I love to create fun ways to help them explore and creative ways to keep them happy.
We bring one of our bunnies, babies and adults alike, into our home on a weekly basis for a day or so for undivided attention. They have their own special place to keep them safe while they are inside and we share our daily activities with them. I feel it makes each of them feel special to have such one on one care and time with us. They take turns coming into our bunny hotel inside.
We are in the process of adding another huge 10 X 10 lot to our already 2 bunny large bunny lots. Here we will be providing separate housing for our bucks. Eventually each buck will have their own "hutch" and will take turns on playing in the large lot all by themselves. ( so no fights will happen, they can become aggressive with each other as they mature) Let me know what you think of my site and give me ideas on what you would like to see on here. Thank you for your time.
